Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kworld Dvdmaker2 In Server?

Jan 27, 2010

I have been using ubuntu server 9.04 for a few months now, but am still very much a newby. I am now trying to set up a firewatch camera that can be viewed via my web page. I have used motion and an el-cheepo webcam to test the idea out, that works ok but the resolution of course is very poor. Now I want to use an old analogue video camera I have as it has a much better sensor and lens. I have a kworld dvdmaker2 usb video capture device but cannot get it working under ubuntu server. When connected to the server, lsusb reports it as I have searched the forums and google, and found quite a bit of info, most of it well above my head and all of it for the gui version of ubuntu. According to one thread I read, the version of ubuntu I am using should have the driver for this device, maybe this is only in the gui version?

Debian Multimedia :: Streaming .avi Online | Multimedia Server

Apr 13, 2010

I want to stream .avi *divx/xvid* (because of the nice compression and quality) online and have all streams accessible through a web based library type thing. Something like Jinzora ( http://en.jinzora.com/ ) is what I am looking for, but it's buggy. I would even be satisfied with a web based library of streams that you click and open with an external program. I have searched a lot for this and the only thing I found that can do this how I want (if it worked right) was jinzora. I don't want to convert to mpeg4 or flv because of size and quality issues.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 9.10 Server - Using IR Keyboard?

Apr 6, 2010

I have purchased a MCE generic remote from here and it worked out of the box with no problems. I want to re-map a couple of buttons, but that is another issue! I run 9.10 server, with a minimal desktop (fluxbox) and xbmc to serve as a media player. I want to move the server further from the lounge. So I figured a wireless option naturally, until I brought the MCE remote, then I started to think - maybe I could get an IR keyboard and use just one receiver?? googled about and found this which is perfect for what I want. Will it just work "out of the box"? and could I use the same IR receiver as the MCE remote? or vice versa? Could I use the Keyboard IR receiver for the remote? Because I use server edition would I need extra modules? I already have lirc, but this wasn't necessary for the remote.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Streaming M3u Through Server With No GUI?

Jun 20, 2011

About a year ago I installed Ubuntu Server 9.10 Karmic on a machine at my work to act as a file/print server and ftp host. I managed this with a lot of googling and reading of forums and it's still all working exactly as it did on day 1!

Now I would like to use the server to stream a local radio station through speakers into the workshop. I have again googled but have not managed to come up with a solution for a server sytem with no GUI...

The radio station streams in a m3u format.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: IceCast - MP3 Support On Server

Jan 13, 2010

I'm trying to get configured: (domain.com to be used for the purpose of explaining setup)

Root/naked domain (domain.com/www.domain.com) to be setup and configured with Apache/PHP/MySQL. Then radio.domain.com being controlled by IceCast with multiple streams (some live, some MP3 based).

The primary domain is already setup and configured under Apache, and IceCast is already installed, but here is where the problems start showing up.

It's my understanding that Ices2 cannot serve MP3's but only OGG files through IceCast. So just for the sake of testing and wanting to get a sample stream working, I placed a public domain OGG file into /etc/icecast2/music/ and called it "book.ogg."

Then the following are my configuration files: /etc/icecast2/icecast.xml

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ssh And Music Server No Sound / Get That?

Mar 28, 2010

I just started to play with ssh so I connected to my media-pc with ssh from my laptop. I was always able to start a music player and play the music on the media-pc. Since yesterday the sound is gone. When I do top on the mediapc, I see my player running.
When I open my player locally on the mediapc, I can hear the music.

I think the sound disappeared after a update, but maybe it disappeared because I opened a player locally (on the mediapc) I don't know.

The laptop and mediapc both use a fully updated 9.10

update: when I connect from mediapc to laptop, I can play music on my laptop

Ubuntu Multimedia :: JACK SERVER - Unable To Run

Jun 25, 2010

JACK will not run ( eg. the server just won't go! ) When running Rosegarden I can not access the Qsynth/Fluidsynth.In the Rosegarden "manage MIDI devices" menu it now shows ONLY one "General Midi Device" -thats all, and I do not know where to/how to get access to qsynth/fluidsynth to use soundfontsIn manage midi devices I ONLY get the option of "general midi"and then its only through "14:0 Midi through port 0 (duplex)" and no
other channels are available or offered! If I import one of the devices that come with rosegarden ( like Aleisis ) there is no sound.

Also if anyone knows: (& if I can fix the above) how do I set Rosegarden to use a software synth like ZynAddSubFX on the track/channel? External softsynths do not show up, so how do I assign the channel to use them>

Ps: Rosegarden did not install with the help files, even a complete removal and reinstall does not fix this- hats why I may be asking questions which could possibly be in the Rosegarden manual ( but NOT anywhere online that I've found in 3 days of searching- and I'm a research assistant for cognitive sciences- eg: good at researching! )

Here's the JACK output:

First the error:

-Overall operation failed
-Unable to connect to server

Heres the message window output:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Music Streaming From A Server?

Jan 8, 2011

I gotta say I know nothing about linux and how it works. I've always been a PC guy(I know, shame, shame). Anyway, I wanted to make my own media server, and for the most part, I seem to of succeed so far. I've learned a ton, but at the same time I'm so lost, and have more questions then answers, and hopefully I'll get some here.

Anyway, the conundrum that I've got is this. I've got my Server set up with Ubuntu 10.10(I think). Got a SAMBA filing system. And then I got Squeezebox to run music off my server. As I dont have an actual Squeezebox I needed to install SoftSqueeze to run the music from the Squeezebox Server address. I then found out that it works fine, but SoftSqueeze sucks when it comes to User Interface. I've tried looking around at other media players and forums about streaming and stuff, but its got me all confused, as I am new to this(going on 2 days now ).

My goal is to be able to stream music to all the users in the household, from the server to there PC. But to do this I'm very lost. I think that I can use a different media player to connect to my servers Squeezebox address... or do I need to get rid of Squeezebox entirely?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: X-Server Works With LiveCD But Not On Installed 9.10

Jan 10, 2010

After a Christmas morning scramble trying to get Sims3 working for the kids, I ended up pulling an Nvidia 6200 AGP card out of a perfectly good Ubuntu box and threw it into the kids' PC. I replaced it in the Ubuntu system with an old Nvidia Geforce 2 Ti AGP. From the start I was unable to get any resolution higher than 800x600 with the GF2. Tried removing xserver-org, reinstalling, reconfiguring, etc. Installed the Nvidia legacy drivers, all no luck. Tried booting with a 9.10 live CD and it works perfectly - various resolutions, refreshes, etc. So, the card is capable. I've checked, rechecked, restored, modified xorg.conf to no success.

I'm at a text login now, startx returns (among other info) the following:
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (loader failed, 7)
(EE) No drivers available
Fatal server error:
no screens found

Now, I've checked, and nvidia_drv.so is where it's supposed to be (in the drivers directory). What concerns me is the "//" in the directory path string in the (EE) above preceding the driver name - shouldn't this be a "/"? Is the command not able to find the driver correctly? Regardless, at this point my goal is simply to get the system to use whatever process the live cd is using which results in a working GUI. Don't need fancy 3d, etc, just want a working system.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Setup Streaming Sound Server

Jun 19, 2010

One of my friends happens to be a Mac user. When he plays music in iTunes on his Mac Book, he can select that the sound should be played from the laptop speakers or from his remote speakers (i.e. his hifi stereo connected to an Airport Extreme wifi access point). If he chooses to play using the remote speakers, iTunes will stream sound via wifi to the Airport Extreme, which will then output to the hifi stereo speakers.

can I do something similar with Ubuntu/Kubuntu?

I have a setup like this: * I have three laptops running Kubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04. * I have a server (fit-PC) running Debian Lenny connected All machines are connected to my local wifi network. The server is connected to some good speakers.

So, what do I need to install/set up on the server and the clients in order to have, say, mplayer, stream sound to the server which will then output it through its sound card?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Stream Movies To IPhone Using A Server

Jun 19, 2010

I was wondering if it would be possible to set up a server on my desktop that has a folder of videos converted to iPhone formats that I can access with my iPhone over the internet to stream videos to my phone?I started by setting up a server and used no-ip2 to create a domain name so I didn't have to worry about my dynamic ip changing. Then I tried unsuccessfully to transcode a DVD to iPhone format using Arista, Transmaggedon, and Avidemux, none of which I could get to properly work.

Finally I used iUI (URL...) to create a site that would appear as a simple menu to search through my movies on my website and stream them. This failed in that every time I set a static link it would change it to URL...

But I can't get it to work. Alsa (before I started with Pulseaudio) played the sound from Xbmc. After that I installed pulseaudio, removed my user from the audio-group and added myself to the pulse-access-group. I also tried to set the default alsa-device to pulse (see attached .asoundrc at the bottom) since the default setup didn't work for me. When I try to play a sound file, I get this error message.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Jack Can't Connect To Audio Server?

Nov 21, 2010

I try it for the first time. Befor I changed to linux I used MS Windows 7. There I worked much with SonyVegas for video and Adobe Auditon for music. Yesterday I searched for alternatives under Linux for Audition. And I found much. The screen shots says, that they look similar to Auditon. I downloaded them and installed them. But they doesn't work. One of them say they can't connect to Jack. Some of them say nothing, and so they don't record my line in/microphone input. After a few seconds I of search, I knew that all of these programs uses jack for Audio. I installed it, but the situation wasn't better. Then I found a wiki, and try that: first start jack, than start the program. So I do. But there i get a few error messages: At first I should copy to lines to the file lines.conf. I do it. Then I should be member of the audio group. I do that.
