Debian Multimedia :: Create An Audio CD From MP3 Files In Gnome?
Aug 26, 2011
What program can make audio CDs out of MP3 files? In Gnome.
A friend sent me a zip file of mp3s for an out-of-print cassette tape that I was trying to get for my husband to give him for his birthday and I'd like to be able to make a CD.

I am on Squeeze. In the past I have successfully extracted audio from video files. Recently when I try it I get an unplayable file, just some brief noise nothing more. Mplayer on the other hand plays every video and audio file out there. Is there something wrong with mplayer? I installed mplayer from the repo. I haven't compile mplayer since before Lenny.

I'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.
I note these updated packages in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository:
Code:
So my question is, did the updates to pulse audio (in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository) fix the pulse audio situation? Are there ANY helpful views on this?
Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).

I was wondering what the reason was for disabling a feature like - creating new documents and files on desktop - by default?
If someone installs debian with desktop environment this user probably also want to use the desktop as a workplace, so why is that not a default setting?
But also in general i dont get it, i dont see any reason, why this is disabled.

I want to create a few audio cd's and the only burning software I have is K3b. But when I open it a window is displaying that says there is a system configuration problem and literally saying:
Mp3 Audio Decoder plugin not found. K3b could not load or find the Mp3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from Mp3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include Mp3 support for legal reasons. Solution: To enable Mp3 support, please install the MAD Mp3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD Mp3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of Mp3 support via an online update tool (e.g. SuSE's YOU).
knows any other program to create audio cd's

I have installed this program ok but I am new to command lines in terminal.
I want to convert some wav files to wma files. I have the wav files currently in a folder called Test to make it easy. So I have entered the following command line:
ajpearson@ajpearson-laptop:~/Desktop/pacpl-4.0.5$ pacpl --to wma home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test and the error message I get is:
error: the following is not a file or directory: home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test
It does not matter what directory I use I get the same error. I am sure the answer is obvious - but not t me.

What would be a nice, simple command to go through all files in a directory (no sub-directories), and change all the MP4 Video files I have to MP3 audio files (keeping the original filenames except for changing the "mp4" extension to "mp3")?
The files in question were videos taken with one of those Flip cameras, but I only need the audio off of it.

My 1st and only grandson turned 1 year old and we have taken about 1 million pics of him. I wanted to make a video from pictures taken in the past year. The first one is an ultra sound picture. The last one was taken this last Saturday. I have 153 12 MPixel pictures in a folder. They are named C001.jpg - C153.jpg (I can rename them if needed).
I had noticed mencoder or ffmpeg can create movies from jpegs. But, I didn't think about the frames per second. Would I need to make like 20 copies of each picture and then make it like 10 FPS? or something like that? Optimally, I would like to have a video where each picture lasts for 8-10 seconds or so and I would be able to add a song as audio. (I think I know how to use mencoder to add the audio).

A friend of mine has downloaded an album from itunes for me because I could not do it from Ubuntu. Afterwards he sent me the files.
Is there any way I can burn these files to an audio CD from Ubuntu?
Also... Can I just put these .m4a files on a USB stick along with my .mp3`s and expect all car radios to be able to play them?

I put all my dvds on my "media center" by converting them to .MP4 with handbrake.
Recently I saw that with a MKV file you could do soft subtitles. I tested a part of a movie, and the audio and video are very out of sync.
With MP4/burned in audio everything is ok...
Edit: Ow yes I'm using XBMC for playing it. MP4 + MKV files are both H.264, they have the exact same settings except for subtitles...
Weirdly Enough: I tried another video and at this one the audio is in sync....

I use gnome-mplayer 1.0.0 and Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 to view videos Both read subtitles well from srt files. But both are not able to read {a6} command in the srt files.
NOTE:- {a6} command serves the purpose of putting the subtitles on top of the screen, making it possible for subbers to display lyrics/additional footnotes on top, while at the same time, having the dialogues to show in their usual position.
Is there are way to force either of them to read the special commands properly?

I am trying to join about 3 video file and have an audio track over the top. Nothing major and to give you an idea how basic it needs to be, I used windows movie maker in the past. I can't figure out how to do it! I had a flick through the web and some people recommended Avidmux. I installed it and i can edit one video file with no audio but if i try to incorporate a second file it just opens a new window! Has anyone got any ideas on good video editing software.

For the longest I have been unable to burn an audio CD that contains ogg files with GnomeBaker, and have always had to decode to wav manually. Well I'm tired of doing that, so want to get to the bottom of the problem. Upon adding an ogg file to the file list, the error I receive is:
"The plugin to handle a file of type audio/ogg is not installed." I have all the gstreamer0.10-plugins-[base|bad|good|ugly] packages installed. I can play an .ogg file with rhythmbox.
Using gconf-editor, /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/profiles/cdlossy is "active" and the cdlossy profile is listed in /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/global/profile_list At a loss on what I need to do.

a movie is encoded with AC3 in 6 channel audio, what I get out is all of the sounds except for voices, which in 5.1 would be sent to the center channel. What I usually do is fire up avidemux and convert the audio to mp3 stereo, as converting to a 5.1 format usually ends up with a very odd sound (like running everything through an echo chamber). What I'd like to do is run a script to batch-convert these files from AC3 to MP3. The video format may vary, but they are usually XVID. I am comfortable at the command line, but I am not well-versed in audio/video tool terms. I don't need anything extravagant, I just want something that works. Heck, even if it is done one at a time, having a shell script that I can use to simply type:
tool.sh inputfile.avi outputfile.avi

I have several audiobooks that are each split into many small chapters, and I would like to string together about ten of them at a time, so that I don't have 60 4-5 minute mp3 files per audiobook. If I were to do this all by hand, with audacity or something similar, it would get very tedious, so I'd like to know if there's already a program that would do it for me when told which files to string together.

I received a popcorn hour set top box for Xmas, and I am trying to figure out the best way to convert my extensive DVD collection to MKV files to play on the PCH.
I know I could just create an ISO of the DVD, but that would take up 4-8 gig per movie, where from what I've read, MKV offers GREAT audio and video quality at a fraction of the space.
Is there any software packages out there for linux that would allow me to rip my DVD's to MKV? if so, will they allow me to just rip the movie part of the disc, and not the extra's or menu?
