View 2 RepliesI'm using Dell inspiron 1210 and installed netbook remix 10.10 recently. But I have trouble with watching video files with any players, including built-in player, SMPlayer, VLC media player.
Video is not appear with those players and can see only black screens. Sound works well. I think there are some troubles with codecs, But though I installed some codecs and restricted-extra, there are no improvements. What should I do to see video with this system? Those video files can be watched with my desktop;Ubuntu 10.04 and VLC player so I think files has no problem. Dell inspiron 1210 specification; Intel Atom Z530, GMA500, 1GB Ram. GMA500 driver has installed.
If you go to [URL].. and pick any video it will play the commercial but not the video. I have 64 bit version of flash installed on ubuntu and it plays fine. Any ideas why it does not play. View 14 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.10. I can still watch videos that I have downloaded. Whenever I watch a video online, no matter which browser, it crashes, goes back to the login screen, when I log back in all windows have been closed.
EDIT: It doesn't crash if I'm playing a video but on a different tab in my browser, I'm pretty sure this means it is a problem with the screen but I may be wrong.
I'm using a Samsung NC10 netbook. It has always worked before.
And another thing, I used to be able to use Extra visual effects but now it says it can't find drivers, where can I find drivers for my screen?

View 3 Replies View RelatedNew VideoCard, mplayer visuals gone Mplayer and Rythmbox, which I believe use the same visualiser engine, have both gone black-screen since I installed a new video card. All was fine just this afternoon with integrated graphics, but I put in the video card and it all went kaput.Everything else is working fine - 3D games, GL screensavers, movies, and desktop effects (currently off, but they do work).
Any ideas what could be going on? The options for visualisations are enabled, I've tried just fiddling with the quality levels and changing the visualizer (Goom, monoscope, etc) and it's all just black.Here's a ton of info - I don't know what's needed so I'm just throwing anything I think might be requested in a pre-emptive move!Card: It's an MSI N9400GT - it's an Nvidia chipset something something, SLI card.

I just spend 4 hours trying to watch some .mov files from my hard disk ( Quicktime videos).

I upgrade mi connection between my PC to my TV, from VGA to HDMI, now I can't watch heavy mkv files coz they jump during the playback, I cant watch MD content on ..... coz the video keeps loading from time to time even if the video is fully loaded,resuming, crappy - not fluid. I tried changing resolutions and refresh rate between 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080 but nothing. Do I need to change my video card to be able to see 1080p media at 1920 x 1080 res in my ubuntu?

What would be a nice, simple command to go through all files in a directory (no sub-directories), and change all the MP4 Video files I have to MP3 audio files (keeping the original filenames except for changing the "mp4" extension to "mp3")?
The files in question were videos taken with one of those Flip cameras, but I only need the audio off of it.

Recently I moved to Debian Squeeze from Ubuntu 10.10. I've a bunch of avi, wmv and flv files. I use VLC media player and I'm unable to the see the video on them. w64codecs is already installed. Yet, I could only hear the audio and the VLC screen is pitch black. How do I get the video to work ?

I'm learning a foreign language. There are several online sites that have Flash video in the language I'm learning (e.g., Hulu), which is great. Unfortunately, they have English subtitles, which is (depending on who you ask) somewhere between "annoying" and "actively harmful to my learning".When I'm watching them in a window, I can just move them near the bottom of the screen, or put another window over them. That's awkward, but it kind of works.But I'd like to watch them full-screen, on my TV set. I'm having a problem playing .mp4 files though. My phone only takes videos in this file format, and most of the time I'm working with large amounts of files, so converting them isn't an option. I've tried many different players, and they all lag like crazy, making the video nearly unwatchable. This is a huge flaw for me, and one reason I'm not bothering to try dual booting again...
I have a Samsung BD-6800 blu-ray player that i want to stream HD mkv files to from my pc. I made sure DLNA was enabled in the /etc/ushare.conf file. The blu-ray player sees my pc perfectly and i can navigate to the folders where the videos are stored, however when i select a folder with videos in it all that is shown is an option called "upper folder" which takes me back to the root directory. The videos are nowhere to be found. I checked on the Ushare web site to see if mkv files are supported which they are.
Here is what my /etc/ushare.conf looks like.
