View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Dell inspiron 1210 and installed netbook remix 10.10 recently. But I have trouble with watching video files with any players, including built-in player, SMPlayer, VLC media player.
Video is not appear with those players and can see only black screens. Sound works well. I think there are some troubles with codecs, But though I installed some codecs and restricted-extra, there are no improvements. What should I do to see video with this system? Those video files can be watched with my desktop;Ubuntu 10.04 and VLC player so I think files has no problem. Dell inspiron 1210 specification; Intel Atom Z530, GMA500, 1GB Ram. GMA500 driver has installed.

Basic problem where i see the lack of speed compaired to when this same machine is running windows 7 comes to web browsing. Mainly ..... vids. i downloaded Flash from the software center and downloaded java with the help of some commands i looked up. I cant watch more than about 8 seconds of video before it buffers. View 14 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.10. I can still watch videos that I have downloaded. Whenever I watch a video online, no matter which browser, it crashes, goes back to the login screen, when I log back in all windows have been closed.
EDIT: It doesn't crash if I'm playing a video but on a different tab in my browser, I'm pretty sure this means it is a problem with the screen but I may be wrong.
I'm using a Samsung NC10 netbook. It has always worked before.
And another thing, I used to be able to use Extra visual effects but now it says it can't find drivers, where can I find drivers for my screen?

I'm learning a foreign language. There are several online sites that have Flash video in the language I'm learning (e.g., Hulu), which is great. Unfortunately, they have English subtitles, which is (depending on who you ask) somewhere between "annoying" and "actively harmful to my learning".When I'm watching them in a window, I can just move them near the bottom of the screen, or put another window over them. That's awkward, but it kind of works. But I'd like to watch them full-screen, on my TV set. Full-screen Flash doesn't let me put any window on top of it.Is there a way to watch an online Flash video but block out part of it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to watch live streaming video on a Slackware box I have connected to a television. I can get Flash to play, but that's almost always pre-recorded (and I'm trying to watch live sports.) The site I go to (which works on Windows) is [URL]. They provide streams that they collect somehow, but they're in different formats. (Some are in Windows Media, some are in Real, some are in quicktime, etc.) I'm using Firefox as a browser, but I could use something else. Beyond the default Slackware (13.0) installation, what additional software do I need?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn the past week or so I've noticed some weird network behaviour. I find accessing some sites such as Amazon, Paypal, and Bigstockphoto really slow. Sometimes the page will not load at all. Other sites are fine. The problem sites are not a problem for others on my LAN at home. When I try to open the problem sites, I can see in Firestarter blocked connections coming from 2.1(8/9).xxx.xxx on various ports such as 36007. This only happens for the problem sites. I attached a typical output from firestarter.
This happens with Firfeox or Chrome. Using Ubuntu 10.10
I have been using Ubuntu for quite sometime and did have some problems getting it to work on my 64bit installation. I had it working fine since I fixed some issues I had when I first installed my current system (10.04 64 bit).
I have updated through the Update Manager today, and after restarting I got into ..... and started seeing the above message in place of the ..... video, it happens in around 95% of videos. The same issue is in vimeo but I didnt find a single video that worked there.
The update installed Firefox version 3.6.6 which has the new flash crash detection. I had flash crash on me when I first installed 10.04 but I used the Lahf fix here:[URL]It doesnt seem to crash on any non video sites that use flash like Facebook.
I dual boot XP and FC14 and have 2 routers. I can connect and ping one of these routers when I'm in FC and I have an IP address I just can't load any websites. When I connect to the other router (my main router) it works fine. When I boot into XP and connect to the problem router I can load pages fine. It's only when I'm on FC14 and connect to the problem router that I can't load pages even though I have an IP and can ping around.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI searched and found threads recommending mozilla-mplayer plugin in the synaptic packet thingymejig. Couldn't find it there myself and although I found a mplayer plugin in the other Ubuntu software library installation program, it didn't allow me to install it (there wasn't an install button!).
So is there a recommended way of getting Firefox to show mms streams?
I installed my DVB-T board and I can watch TV using VLC and my channels.conf file. I saved a copy of channels.conf as ~/.gstreamer-0.10/dvb-channels.conf but when I start Totem (GStreamer ed.), I don't see a "Watch TV" option under the "Movie" menu.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a series of system usability bash scripts that I sync with dropbox (and share with other friends that I have set ubuntu up on) and then have those folders sym linked to ~/bin. The problem is, when I change something on one computer, the scripts lose executability on other computers. First, I guess I will ask, is there a way to stop this from happening?
Failing that, is there a way that I can have Dropbox's events monitored so that when something is updated, it runs a script on my Script folder adding 'chmod +x' to all the bash scripts. This is the simple nautilus-script that I am currently using to easily batch change the modes:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
#token: nautilus-script
for FILE in *
do
chmod +x "$FILE"
Rather than adding each music/video file one by one in XBMC is there a way to just add a folder to watch and as you add music under it, it automatically shows up in XMBC? If not, is there any application that allows something like that? I'm looking for one central application to use for all media playback - dvds, music, videos, pictures... XBMC seemed like the right choice, but I'll be adding moves and music for a year if I had to do each of them 1 by 1.
