View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 9.10 and my sound does not work. Whenever I go to the Sound page and the Hardware tab to try switching from HDMI to Analog Stereo Duplex, whenever I select it and close the sound page, it never saves the switch. Whenever I open it again, the audio is right back to HDMI again. I don't see any "Apply Change" button or anything

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy USB sound card used to work perfectly, but after i unplugged it, there seems to be a problem. When it is unplugged it is in the multimedia device preference list, but it is greyed out. When i plug the sound card in, nothing happens to the greyed entry, instead a new device shows up with the same name.
When press test on the new entry, it works fine, but it's like pulseaudio dosn't recognize the USB sound card, and the sound just comes out of the internal speakers. Also, if i move the new entry up in the list, it has none effect at all. Sound still comes out of the internal speaker. Does anyone know how i can fix this?
After a recent upgrade I have lost the top right icon in the top panel - so I cannot Set Status, Lock Screen, Guest Session, Switch User ..... Restart, Shutdown. I have right clicked on the top panel and installed the Shutdown icon so I can shutdown but I have lost all the other functions including the 60secs countdown. Is there any way I can get the standard top right icon in the top panel?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did some maintenance and had to reinstall indicator applet on the panel. Now I'm missing the status applet (the one with the logged in username, and quick access to change chat status - power button to restart, shut down, hibernate...).
There's a way of getting it back? What package should I install again that maybe I missed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS from 9.10 and the icon that lets me view and choose wireless networks to connect to has mysteriously disappeared. I did the whole "Add to Panel" thing and added the "Network Connections" icon to my task bar, but for all the searching through that and other things like System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications, I just can't find a solution! The Network Preferences still has the list of all the wireless networks I have connected to in the past. It still connects to my home network automatically (although I did have to delete another neighboring network from the Network Preferences list so it only has one auto connection to connect to). So where in the world did my icon go? It was so great. Left click to see all local wireless networks and to connect. Right click to turn off networking or wireless.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent upgrade, the red power icon in the far right of the upper panel disappeared. In its place is a half obscured copy of my user name, which appears right next to my user name (along with the chat icon). The chat icon/user name is functional, as it is supposed to be, but the half obscured user name that replaced my shutdown/restart power icon is just a bug, and has no function. Not only is it unsightly, but I miss the power icon. Yes, I can right-click on the panel and add one, but it doesn't allow me to drag it all the way to the far upper-right corner, where it is supposed to be located... I found this post in another thread: sudo apt-get install indicator-applet-session, but it did nothing to solve my problem.. I'm running 64-bit 10.10, btw, if that makes any difference.
View 9 Replies View RelatedToday I set my HPG50 with Ubuntu 10.10. I used network install disk, then tasksel to add Ubuntu Desktop. Everything was fine, I set up my samba shares and a few other things. I had the NM icon on the panel but did have to configure. I was on wired connection and I could surf no problem. When I went to set up the wireless, I noticed the icon was gone. I know it was there after the install. At some point the network manager icon disappeared, not sure when because I could still access the router and internet. I spent a few hours surfing google and the forums trying to find an answer. Then, after running update and upgrade I lost internet. Even though I could see the router, I connected straight to the modem, still no internet access. I unplugged the cable from that machine and plugged it into my other system and I could surf just fine.
It was clear that nm-applet was running from running nm-applet at the terminal - nm-applet - "An instance of nm-applet is already running - Warn Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager. nm-tool - State - connected, Driver r8169, State Unmanaged, Default no. NetworkManager.State - All three entries are set to "true". It seems clear that some other app is managing my connection as I can access the router and am currently serving video to my apple tv from this system. How do I find which app is managing my connection?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running squeeze. The klipper icon has disappeared from the system tray and I can't figure out how to restore it. The service is running. Stopping and starting it has no effect. Changing the display options for the system tray has no effect. I can bring the klipper dialog up with Ctrl-Alt-V but there are no options available regarding the system tray.
It's obviously a user configuration issue since if I login as root the klipper icon is displayed. I tried to copy the klipper configuration file contents from root to user, but that also had no effect, except to alter some non-relevant options. I haven't been able to locate any other configuration files that might be relevant. This seems to be a not uncommon problem with klipper, but the causes seem to differ. I haven't found any solutions vi Google.
Because of a horrible problem (volume bursting, this is known bug), I completely removed Pulseaudio and some related packages. So I'm now using pure ALSA, and it's working fine. Yet, the volume control tray icon was disappeared. How can I recover it?
