I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. Can you please tell me how can I find the right driver for my sound card? When I play a mp3 via vlc in ubuntu 9.10, there is sound, but the quality is bad. And I play the same on Windows7. It plays fine.

I don't have any sound after installing Linuxant ALSA driver. I tried uninstalling it and the hsf driver, didn't help. Reinstalling ALSA didn't help either. Ubuntu doesn't detect my sound card, and aplay doesn't detect my sound card. lspci -v output for sound card:

I am looking to get a sound card to put in my HTPC that is running Ubuntu 10.04. I bought Auzentech x-plosion sound card that has spdif support but it does not work. Does anyone know of any card that will work or am I out of luck??
View 2 Replies View RelatedLaptop is Dell Latitude C600/C500 with Pentium III 850Mhz, 256Kb L2 Cache, 256MB RAM, ATI M3 video card, HD 20005 MB and sound card is EES Maestro 3i. After trying to do something with Windows 2000 which was installed on the machine, I decided to put Linux without keeping windows on the machine. First I try with Xubuntu (latest version) which was working but slowly, then I found that Debian could work fine on that machine. I have installed latest version 5.08 and was surprised how goodly old machine can work. I solved problems with screen resolution (change from 800x600 to 1024x768) but I couldn't find solution how to fix problem with sound.
Actually I don't have sound on the machine. I looked for a linux driver for that sound card and Dell is only providing windows drivers. Then I found that I can solve the problem with ALSA drivers but I couldn't find the easy way (or any way at all) to install drivers and to get back the sound. When I click on 'Volume Control' (top right corner of the screen) I get the message: 'Volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.'
sound card is working well inside SuSE and everything is ok there. But when I install Windows 7 or XP inside Xen Virtualization software, I can't use sound card and Windows is unable to find any sound hardware.

Searched a lot in the web and found that the latest yet easiest to noobs is 10.10.3 days have passed since i have started trying ti set it up i have come across A LOT of problems due to my noobity. 1st of all yet solved in the way was an issue with my gfx card.I have the GT X 285 and every time i log in to my os i have ti resize the desktop cuz it never stays as it should. 2nd and most serious , i cant find a way to set up my sound card. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I am setting up a mythtv/xmbc box on Ubuntu 10.10 (natty does not install on my hardware). I have a Sabrent TV PCIRC tuner card, which seems to work fine with the proper card and tuner settings. My on-board sound is HDA-Intel surround sound, which I have configured as analog duplex.
Currently the sound works fine through my speakers plugged into any jack on the back of the PC (two speakers, one jack). I can watch ripped movies and listen to music. The TV tuner is pumping sound from its external jack -- if I hook it up directly to the speakers it works fine. I can feed the Tuner's sound to the line-in on my motherboard, but nothing comes out. In the sound manager, i have the input device selected and the input level shows that the sound is coming in through the connector, and I can test the speakers and they work fine, but they don't seem to be communicating that the sound coming in needs to be pumped out through the speakers.
I have installed xubuntu version 10. My sound card is a Yamaha dS-1S, and seems to be properly configured. Alsa mixer doesn't indicates any error. However, I can't manage to get any sound. I have checked that jacks are correctly plugged.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the last week I have been noticing sound issues. Today my sound stopped working all together. I have a dual boot system: Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10. The sound works fine under XP. My understanding is that there are problems with PulseAudio. Ive checked all the obvious things such as "mute" etc. My guess would be a corrupted sound card driver, but im not sure of the best way to remove it and reinstall it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I have a TV tuner card with its output connected to the CD in of an integrated sound card. Video is OK, and the sound also gets thorough (to the line out) when running xawtv, for example. However, I found no ways yet for recording it.I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with ALSA drivers. Pulseaudio was running in the beginning, now it doesn't, but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

I can not install a driver for device EDUP WU2070. I have a disk with a driver for linux general. I don't know how to compile a makefile. My OS 11.3v doesn't see a device.
But when I run in Live CD mode all drivers install automatically and my WI-FI device work properly.
