I have a DVD player that is for some reason outputting very quiet sound. I would like to wire the audio cable output end into the input of my Ubuntu laptop, then amplify the sound, and output it from the laptop to external speakers. What program will allow me to take inputted mic sound, and then echo it back at higher volume?

I want to run a network cable out there and set an old P4 computer with Ubuntu and use Amarok to be able to play music and playlists on a set of outside speakers So, an suggestions for small amplifiers to run off a computer? Once up, I may try and experiment with those little USB wireless remote terminals, but that is a ways off.

in the terminal and it detected my ATI card. Ive gone into alsa mixer and all the proper channels are on. The only time i can really hear sound is when I plug in my uber sensitive earphone and turn the volume up past 100. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be?
I have connected the PC to an amplifier via optical cable. Everything was working fine. Suddenly, I lost sound! The last things I was doing was extracting some CDs by Sound Juicer and I installed a program named setcd. I thought it was the new software conflicting, so I uninstalled it. However, still no sound. I check the sound settings and find to be the same as before.

Then I reinstalled pulse with all the utilities and got it to look like working, with one problem only: no sound is output.I use Rythmbox for playback. In pavucontrol the bar below the soundcard output indicates that there's something playing, but no sound gets to my headphones. Has anyone encountered that? I've tried nearly all combinations of setting the output devices in various places like Sound settings and pavucontrol, but none worked.

I have an ASUS P5lp-le motherboard that has onboard 5.1 audio,but my speakers are really quiet. I have tried running "alsamixer" in the terminal and everything was turned up all the way. I've tried switching output to ALSA, OCC and still no success. My audio files are playing perfect with any music player. In sound setting I'm using Analog stereo duplex, I have the option of choosing HDMI, but than I have no sound whatsoever.

It must have been one of the last updates in maverick. My fluendo dvd player has no sound when playing a dvd anymore I don't know, what happened. VLC or totem do play these dvds without probs and - of course - with sound!

When ever i'm playing a file in any player, Rhythmbox, Exaile, Totem... and i mean a sound file, i can't listen to my 5.1. Actually... when ever i choose from Sound Preferences -> Output -> Profile: 5.1 I can listen to the Bass kicking, and all my speakers works. Now, when i change manually the song, or automatically... or even when i Stop and then Start again the playback, i loose the Bass and not all my speakers works as intended. When i go to Output Profile again, 5.1 it's still selected. I have to change back to something else, like 4.1 or stereo and then back to 5.1 so the Bass and all speakers work again as they should.
Something that has been bugging me. I'm not sure about where it should be so I put it here.
When I loaded up a flash game, the music/sound would be delayed. It's nothing with the performance of my PC because it's still fast.
It happens mostly when im viewing movies online.... It just closes no error messages no nothing like performing ctrl-Q since no error messages are produced during the crashes ....
View 14 Replies View RelatedI originally installed Ubuntu 10.10 in my computer, but as it is an older machine, it was too heavy for it. Threfore, I installed the xubuntu-desktop package available at the Synaptics package manager. From then on, my system began behaving pretty much like a pure Xubuntu 10.10, or at least as I think it should be. I still have the option of selecting between a Xubuntu and an Ubuntu session at start up.
That said, there is a little thing that is annoying me. While the sound in Ubuntu sessions are just fine, it is too quiet in Xubuntu ones. Let me elaborate: I think that the maximum volume is the same, but while Ubuntu's volume curve is a straight born from an arithmetic progression one, Xubuntu's sounds like a curve born from a geometric progression, that is, it is too quiet at lower levels, reaching its maximum very abruptly. I control sound using volume keys, and the computer reaches maximum volume in 20 pressess. While in a quiet place I can reach a nice, audible volume at 3 pressess in Ubuntu, in Xubuntu I only start hearing something at the 10th or 11th press.Is there any way to make Xubuntu's volume control behave like Ubuntu's?
I have been reading over lots of forum postings, etc on getting the Sirius/XM Player to run on OpenSuse 11.2. I have installed the Firefox plug-in MediaPlayer that allows me to change the player for different types of streams. I have installed the kmplayer as well as the xine-lib and opensuse-codecs. I can bring up the player and then it will show a stream playing but I don't hear anything. I configured my MediaPlayer to have all streams go to the kmplayer.

i just recently installed open suse so no new software other than what was there on install is added. by the way, i get the kde sounds and can play audio cd's so the sound is working partially. just not for these apps. i have adobe flash installed. i'm new to kde. i have previously used gnome on other computers.

I fresh installed Maverick and had sound for buttons and Rythymbox. After installing flash all sound is gone.I have checked most of the suggested possible causes but have not come up with the reason for this.

I have recently found a strange problem with my VLC Media Player, as it only has sound is certain file types, but on others it doesn't. I have tried to run .AVI files, and it plays sound, also tried .flv files, but with no luck. I am running Ubuntu 10.10.

I am having a problem when using Flash. Whenever I am listening to a Flash application (..... primarily), I am unable to hear sound from any other applications (Rhythmbox, movie player, etc).
The converse is also true, if I am using Rhythmbox, and then start ....., the video plays...but with no sound. I have to manually kill the app and web browser (tried multiple...Firefox, Chrome, Swiftfox) to get sounds working correctly. I am my wits end with this problem, and have just putting up with it for several months now.

I just installed fedora 10 on a Velocity Micro Quadcore with an X-Fi extreme audio. Everythings working but no audio, tried different settings, but nothing. What is the main config for the sound card? Been awhile since I've played with linux and I'm out of the loop. It's detecting everything as AutoDetect, tried other settings but nothing. I have another older machine and the sound does not work in that either. Wanted to kill two birds with one stone.

Is there a way to make that permanent? The settings are: port /dev/ttyS0, baud rate=38400, data bits=8, stop bits=1, no parity, no hardware or software handshaking. I wrote a linux program that sends 1 byte to the device, but the device doesn't receive it. I know the serial ports are working because when I use the CuteCOM application to send data, the device DOES receive it, so obviously it is a problem with my code..
