View 4 RepliesI recently downloaded ubuntu 10.4 and have recently solved my network problem. I enjoy listening to music, and I want to download it... but how!!!!! I have a firefox browser and have tried to download mp3 files (usually off beemp3). Once I press download it immediately brings me to a new window or tab and just plays it for me. There is no download no matter what application I install for linux or firefox. Is it just linux that doesn't allow me to download mp3 files or is it something to do with firefox?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are many Zune threads - all stating that zune won't work with ubuntu - so I get that. But I am curious... Why can I mount the zune player and see the files on the zune - and then when I try to add to the zune or remove them get an error message. Ubuntu can see what is on the Zune, so why can't it copy/erase the files?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed gnome-mplayer and gecko-mediaplayer on Debian Squeeze (after removing Parole and its browser plugin). Now when I right-click on a file in Thunar, the menu instantly vanishes unless I hold the right mouse button down. The menu works fine, but having to hold the button down is mildly annoying.
The funny thing is, right-clicking on the background in Thunar works exactly as expected; I never have to hold down the button. And this is definitely not a mouse problem, because I can observe the exact same behavior with any mouse or touchpad.
Update: switching to a different GTK theme seems to have fixed it.

I'm hoping to find a batch of codecs for my newly installed openSUSE OS. I have a very troublesome collection of .mkv files that took several codec packs to make them work. For a brief explanation, I had tried haali and matroska both together and they still didn't work on certain mkvs. I ended up using CCCP, but that's win only as far as I can tell. It took the latest update of CCCP to work on all of my mkvs.
After upgrading to gnome 2.28.2 and Nautilus 2.28.4, nautilus leaves text file(including .php .jave etc,.) icon blank while it works well with image and pdf files.

OS: ubuntu10.04 LTS running on latest oracle virtualbox. This works: I have opened a ubuntu one account. And I can log into that account. But I have to do so by: clicking 'ubuntu one' in top bar, and click 'account' in prompt that appears. Shouldn't log in take place automatically? Being logged in I'm able to make new folders. And appearently able to enter them (they are empty I quess) If I try to upload a file clicking 'upload file' in ubuntu one. A prompt appears and I choose the file to upload and click 'continue'. The prompt says "uploading" but nothing happens. If I choose a document folder and click 'mouse click right'. And then click 'sync with ubuntu one'. It prompts that it syncs the folders. But nothing happens.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:

I can't get flash controls to work. If the video auto-plays, it starts just fine, if not, I'm out of luck. I've tried reinstalling flash through the software center. Even if it autoplays, I can't control volume or pause or anything. I'm at the mercy of whatever is already there.

I have installed this program ok but I am new to command lines in terminal.
I want to convert some wav files to wma files. I have the wav files currently in a folder called Test to make it easy. So I have entered the following command line:
ajpearson@ajpearson-laptop:~/Desktop/pacpl-4.0.5$ pacpl --to wma home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test and the error message I get is:
error: the following is not a file or directory: home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test
It does not matter what directory I use I get the same error. I am sure the answer is obvious - but not t me.
the VBO file that i want to burn into a dvd is around 7.9 gb. i want to know if it's possible to split them in order to burn the files into two diferent dvds.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat would be a nice, simple command to go through all files in a directory (no sub-directories), and change all the MP4 Video files I have to MP3 audio files (keeping the original filenames except for changing the "mp4" extension to "mp3")?
The files in question were videos taken with one of those Flip cameras, but I only need the audio off of it.
Is there a program for Ubuntu that converts AVI files to VOB files? This is the only type of file that will burn to a DVD and successfully play on my DVD player. I can use DVD Flick on Windows but I'm sure this can't be the only way. There has to be a way to get VOB files on an Ubuntu operating system.

View 2 Replies View Relatedso i don't know what happened, but all multimedia files are suddenly speed up/and-or with no sound (ubuntu 11.04 with all recent updates, firefox 4, adobe flash-instick etc.)
if i try to play a flash movie on for instance videos it's sped-up with no sound, if i play an mp3 song (i use exaile) the bar is sped up and there's no sound either, if i start an avi movie (vlc) it's not sped up but there's no sound though.
when i log in to the system the logging in jingle is not playing, so basically the sound just got turned off for some reason but according to the soundbar it should be on.
this problem started just recently. i don't know if it has to do with recent updates or that my log in re-started a couple of times after using a kde program (kmess).

2: Why does the ubuntu one applet tell me that it is connected, while when I navigate to the ubuntu one folder it tells me that it isn't connected?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a collection of MP3 files, but sometimes I stumble across a double file in Rhythmbox. At first, I thought they were the real files, but after trying to fix the tags (artist names were incorrect or missing) in tag editor, I didn't see any change in the files in Rhythmbox.
This made me search for the album in which the files were (in Rhythmbox). I found out that these incorrectly named files were doubles, but they didn't show in the actual folder.
So, I deduced, They had to be fakes. I threw the doubles in the trash bin, and there it was. They were hidden files (with a dot in front).
How can I find all these hidden files, so I can remove them?
Is there something I need to do to access my files from vista? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? I'm just sick and tired of windows and would like to eventually migrate to ubuntu.

View 6 Replies View RelatedNew subversion user here. I've run into a nasty problem. It seems that nautilus chokes any time it tries to display a directory containing .svn files. There seems to be some sort of timeout involved per object under version control. The larger the directory, the longer it takes to display. I'm talking minutes here for a fairly ordinary sized directory.
Now I know that nautilus is painfully slow even at the best of times, but this is just ridiculous. These delays are crippling. I have no problem with nautilus and svn files on my work machine, which has centos. So it looks to me like something is misconfigured somewhere. And it is something specific to .svn files.
I downloaded some .iso files recently, and don't really know what to do with them. Unless I'm mistaken, I should burn them onto a CD, and then be able to mount them and get the program to run, but that doesn't seem to be working. All it does when I put the disk in is open the folders showing all the files. Am I completely off base with what I'm doing, or is there just a step I'm missing or something?

This works:
Established ubuntu one. Able to log into ubuntu one. Able to make folders.
This doesn't work:

I have been trying to get Adobe flash player to work for sometime now. I have got it to work in Kubuntu, Xubuntu and OZOS but nogo for Ubuntu. Some have said that should look in the repository only to find out that the repository would correctly be named the software center and that it has no files named flash or adobe. I installed flash from adobe directly but it did not work. I am using 32bit Ubuntu.

I'm trying to clean a hard drive and I'm using secure-delete but it just stands there and takes cpu power but nothing happens, I used -r switch first and nothing, so I tried it on single files, small pictures worked as intended but a simple 50MB MPG file just stands there as well and nothing happens.
I left it running for 24 hours and nothing happened but the cpu was working at 90-100% all the time :/
Any one know what's wrong? I'm using 10.04 UNR
