Been trying to figure out how to turn an animated GIF to a FLV.
I figured out how to turn an AVI to a FLV, but can't even figure out how to turn an animated GIF into an AVI so that I could convert it to a FLV.
I been trying, and failing, using ffmpeg.
Ihave some video clips that i would like to use in web pages and Internet forums as animated images. is there a good free program out there that can get the job done. i also noticed that several gif images on the Internet lag like they skipped several frames, i don't want that i want the animation to play smoothly even if it means the file size will be astronomical.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm copying an animated TV series from DVD to my computer. The DVDs are encoded at 29.970fps, which I find strange because animation usually uses 23.976fps. Anyway, what I have done is de-interlaced and re-encoded it to H.264. Now it is set to 59.970fps, which I think is higher than what I want. I'm seeking advice on whether I should leave it at that or change it to one of the lower frame rates. Another question: Do you think that I should be encoding to H.263 instead? This is just to have copies of the videos on my hard drive.
Note: I used Avidemux with the Yadif filter using the bob method to de-interlace the film. I think the bob method preserves the actual 60 fields and converts them into complete frames. I'm guessing that the temporal spatial check would halve the frames and give me the 29.970fps.
After searching for about 3 hours i finally decided to ask on forums. Is it even possible to use an Flv video file downloaded (very short) off you-tube as an animated desktop wall paper. I was trying to get it to work with xwinwrap but when i go to set the screen saver i want to play as the wall paper i am not able to see the video file i want, it just shows the default screen savers. I was wondering if what i am attempting is possible. Also if it is, how might i go about this?

Using Squeeze. After updating some webkit related packages (Mar 11 2011) some animated GIFs are not working properly in Epiphany or in Midori. In Iceweasel they are ok.

Would someone have some kind of solution or workaround? Or should I just wait for a fix, coming perhaps with the next point release?
I want to record narration for a video, then look at the timeline of the narration so I can generate animation that is more or less in sync with it. I don't need to be accurate enough to match lip movement. I can generate the video frames with POVray, and I can make a movie out of the frames with ffmpeg. I have a microphone which plugs into my sound card, but I don't know how to record my voice, nor how to determine the time used at different points in the narration, nor how to add the audio to the video to produce a narrated movie. My OS is Debian Linux running Gnome.

I have a pair of outboard Sony speakers sitting on my desk & the sound of the fan and every keystroke is picked up by the mic and amplified back at me through the speakers. If I turn the volume on the speakers up more than about half way the mic picks up the feedback I get a high pitched squeal through the speakers.I've gone into "Sound Preferences" and muted "Input Volume," but it has no effect - the mic is still picking up and amplifying every keystroke & giving me feedback.How can I turn off the damn mic? (by the way, I do not have this problem if I boot into XP)

Should be a very simple question - how do I turn off the annoying beeps and bings when I delete a file or somesuch? In the XFCE sound settings I set the theme to none but I'm still getting these noises.
My ssytem is a Ubuntu Maverick install with an XFCE desktop so there may be more than one place I need to disable this.
Disclaimer: I have very little linux desktop experience...I've only used command line stuff for work in my previous life. I am joyfully coming off of a long addiction to MS but am having a bit of a hard time adjusting.
ISSUE: I can't seem to figure out how to turn off suspend mode. I have turned every setting I could find in the power management to "do nothing" and I have turned off all of my power mgmt options in the system bios. A "friend" suggested I remove HAL...which caused me to lose my secondary internal HD and all of my usb devices...and the issue persisted. Every 20 minutes of no action the screen blanks and my monitor goes into standby mode which is making watching movies in bed a less than relaxing experience.
Some background that may or may not be useful: I installed kubunutu 10.04 (2.6.32-28-generic) from cd on a fresh HD. Initially I had issues with the wireless network and alsa/pulse sound. I worked through those through much trial and error but the suspend issue persists. I've uninstalled and re-installed lots of packages I probably shouldn't have been messing with and would really like to avoid a reinstall as this seems to be the final fix I need to get things running the way I want them.
Ever since installing ubuntu maverick meerkat, ive been having an issue with the sound control, whenever i turn the sound down below 24%, it cuts out completely, and it goes from relatively loud, to silent. Has anyone else had this problem? where should i start troubleshooting?

This didn't work for many people, nor did it work for me, as the monitor would just turn on again after a few seconds. The second other suggestion I found to make this "stick was:

This worked for some people, by delaying the monitor off function by one second, but it did not work for me, as the monitor would turn on again by itself after one minute exactly. Maybe those who thought this was the solution just walked away and never really found out their monitor plays sneak-peak with them. The next solution i found digging around was supposed to really make the monitor stay powered off:

But this didn't work either; what a disappointment, and it also made my CPU and HDD freak out for a while while my monitor was off. Then just go to: System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts and assign a Keyboard combination shortcut to call and initiate the script. I chose "<Ctrl>+M" because it's easy to remember.
Make sure to disable any same keyboard shortcuts you may have in Compiz to avoid conflicts.
This final script just worked perfectly for me. And the Monitor just stays off until I shake the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, and my CPU and HDD don't rev up like a Harley. This final solution seems to be working for everyone of my friends without a glitch.
I tried on GLMatrix, but I prefer 2D matrix. I was trying open Xmatrix as wallpaper by Xwinwrap and Animated Desktop and I saw that:

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is for all of you who are having problems getting sound out of the PC Speaker, as far as getting the system beep or system bell. In Karmic (9.10), a change was made to get rid of the system beeps and disable the pc speaker. Unfortunately for people who liked (or more likely need) the beeps, the changes occurred in multiple places and are not that easy to find. The pc speaker and beeps were disabled in response to this bug. I believe there were other bugs dealt with here because not everything that was done seems to be covered, if that makes sense.
This bug was created in response, in hope of getting the beeps turned back on. This post by one of the developers has some pretty comprehensive instructions for getting the beep back on. I want to note right now, that I did not have to apply his patch to get the beeps back on where I wanted them. It may already have been included in an update, or was obviated by something else I did. I realize this is pretty fragmented, and you may or may not want or need to go as far as I did with this. When I get a chance to do a new clean install of Karmic (maybe in a vm or something) I intend to go back over these instructions and try to create a synthesis of them that should work for certain. If I can, I'll figure out a way to script it.
One other thing I should point out. I didn't get the bug where I had to reload the pcspkr module on every boot, so that must be fixed. (I did have to remove it from the blacklist so it would be loaded on boot, but I didn't have to kill and reload it or add it to rc.local like some people did in those descriptions). I also did not get the bug of an endless loop of beep sound or multiple beep sounds, but that only happened to people who followed the directions to change the system beep to another sound.
I'm sure this has probably come up before, but I could't find an already existing thread. I have ubuntu 10.04 and when I plug my headphones into the headphone jack, they come on, but the speakers don't shut off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently obtained a HTPC which has Mythbuntu pre-installed and already working with a remote it came with. I have another remote that I have changed over to (including the ir receiver) as it had easier button layout. Setup seems to have gone fine, but when the pc is restarted (turned of and on) then the ir receiver is not reloaded in the usb port. This was not a problem with the old remote. If once the pc is on I unplug and re-plug the ir receiver then it loads and works fine.
Running a lsusb in terminal shows that it is definitely not loaded on restart but is when re-plugged in.
I played an MP4 file with Totem and it showed the chapter name. How to turn this off?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter I installed the system (Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit), I wanted to turn the owner driver (nvidia-current) on in order to gain hardware graphics acceleration, among others 3D acceleration.When I installed this driver and restarted the computer, it appeared that the error message shows up: Code:(EE) No devices detected.No screens found.If I want to have any window based environment at all, I have to go back to the previous settings, without this driver.
The only solution I found so far on the Internet tells to turn this driver off at all, what means no 3D acceleration.Has anyone encountered this problem and found a solution? Is there any possibility to turn hardware acceleration on for this card on Ubuntu?
I was looking to install a high res animated Sun in Celestia (1 of the kids is doing a school project on the Sun), but it requires 1.6 or better. I'm running Karmic which is stuck at version 1.5. I've done a search on the net (getdeb etc) but there doesn't seem to be a deb for V1.6 anywhere. Anyone know of a "howto" install??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Nvidia drivers 190.53 on my karmic with a Nvidia 9500GT. I've downloaded the file from the Nvidia website. I've done this before on previous installations and everything went fine, however, with karmic turning off the xserver is a bit of a trick.

After I run sh ./NVIDIA-linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run a notice pops up and tells me I'm running x and I need to exit out. I thought I did. I've looked at the instructions on the Nvidia website, but I don't remember it being that complicated before and am a little nervous about removing files I don't know what they do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been struggling a while with getting the iMON LCD/IR-receiver on my Antec Fusion Black case to shutdown together with the system (XBMC Live 10). But it won't. When it's turned off the LCD still lights up the whole room. Many have proposed the "solution" of setting the machine into hibernation instead but that however won't work for me, since I'm unable to suspend my system.
It is the LCD/IR-module that prevents me from suspending and I haven't found a solution to properly unload it on suspending (it's way above my linux knowledge). getting the display to turn off the backlight when the system is turned off.

unning 11.2 on laptop used as stationary desktop. Normally, the backlight turns off after several minutes of inactivity from keyboard/mouse. However, once video played using VLC, the screen simply blanks while backlight stays on, until system restart. Using Totem does not have this effect, but I like VLC.

well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.

After upgrading to natty, firefox eats 100% of cpu each time an animated gif is displayed on the tab title, or when the favicon is an animation. I have an fglrx driver, but opengl animation doesnt slowdown pc as much as favicons does on firefox.
