It worked fine with the base install of 10.4 but somewhere along the way it stopped working and became read only.Autodetect and MTP modes cause only the Fuze to show up in Rhythmbox. However the track numbers are all wrong and some things are garbled. MSC mode, which I used in the past, shows the Fuze and card both in Rhythmbox and on the desktop. However it's in read only mode.
View 8 RepliesI have an 8gb Sansa Fuze, filled with mp3s only. Although it appears in rhythmbox, the songs don't. Plus I can't even access it as a hard drive I've been using it with Winamp when I was still using XP, if that matters.
EDIT: seems like it was in MTP mode by default when 'Auto Detect' was set. I switched to MSC and I can now access it but the music still does not appear, whether in Rhythmbox or in the folder 'MUSIC'.
I just upgraded to 10.04 and now my Sansa Fuze does not get mounted. The Fuze screen says connected and then writing, but then locks up.\ I have to disconnect it and do a reset before I can use it. I did get an error message on from Ubuntu. As I recall it looked like this:

First some background info:The Sansa Fuze seems to have rather spotty USB performance for Linux users based on what I've been able to find on the internet. I got one brand new a few weeks ago, and it half worked for me. By "half-worked"ean it would show up eventually (maybe after a few seconds delay, or after running lsusb multiple times), and sometimes it would suddenly disconnect (tons of bad block messages in dmesg) and come back a minute or two. In any case it was definitely not the nice reliable behavior one sees from normal USB flash drives, which is what MSC is supposed to be. This went on until I decided to rockbox it.
The installation went well using the RockboxUtility, but the USB recognition seemed (by my impressions, not hard data) to become even more spotty, so I decided to remove Rockbox (using the same utility), and did a manual firmware upgrade to the latest version (by copying the extracted fuzpa.bin to the root of the Fuze filesystem) to get rid of the Rockbox bootloader. Ever since then, the Fuze has stopped being recognized anywhere, although it retains its ability to charge from USB ports. Windows 7 is completely unaware when I plug in the Fuze. In Debian, sometimes I can coax the Fuze itself to show the Connected screen, but the system doesn't realize it and the most I ever see in dmesg are lines about new Sandisk device followed immediately by a line about USB device disconnect.
At this point I don't really know what to do so I am asking for suggestions of any kind.
One idea I had is to redo the firmware upgrade, but the catch is upgrading the firmware requires USB access. Is there a way (maybe using mknod or some kludge) to manually create a /dev/sd? device for me to mount the filesystem? If it matters I use thunar's volume manager handle usb devices. On the Fuze I've always used MSC mode

Some moments ago, I plugged my drive into a computer with some strange data protection software. It turned my drive's filesystem into read only and now it can neither be formatted nor mounted with write option. I've tried

These files are not showing up in the Sansa's menu once they are copied over.One thing I notice is that the file properties display as Type 'Ogg Multimedia File' for the ones that work, whereas the ones from Soundconverter display the Type 'Ogg Audio'

When I copy files over ( from a PC running Ubuntu 10.10 ) to my Sansa m260 each track is listed multiple times. When I look at the contents with my file explorer on my PC I see only one copy of each track.
I tried deleting all files and starting over again on a fresh battery.
Ubuntu 10.04 won't recognise my Sandisk Sansa Clip+ as installed on comp. It sees memory sticks and memory cards. Are there drivers that I need to install?? Anything in Synaptic Package Manager that needs to be installed?
View 4 Replies View RelatedLast week when I was still running Lucid I could get Banshee to read and write to my Sansa Clip Plus fine, but now that I have upgraded to Maverick Banshee can no longer see it.
I have it set in MSC mode with an .is_audio_player file (that worked back in Lucid) and Rhythmbox can see it and read and write to it fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem or does anyone else know what might be causing it? Banshee's version is 1.7.6 and the contents of my .is_audio_file are posted below:

My portable HDD is suddenly saying that I don't have write permission anymore.
properties>permissions says that I have full read/write permission over the top folder of the drive. After looking in the permissions I'm out of ideas.
I checked the properties of the drive itself and it said "Permissions could not be determined"
I haven't changed the permissions deliberately - I use this hard drive every other day to move movies across to my TV.
I am trying to connect a Sansa Clip Zip with rockbox firmware. Debian does not recognise/automount the drives (4gb of internal mem and 32gb sdhc card) whereas Mint 17 had no problem with them.
Are there additional libraries needed? I believe the filesystem is FAT32 rather than anything more exotic so not sure why it doesn't recognise the drives. The clip zip charges but doesn't mount.
Been happily going along with Lucid Lynx, locked in, no problems. Slowly sorting through many files on an external 500 GB USB drive, moving into useful sub-folders. Today, I cannot write to any folders on that drive -- read only. ?!?! I run nautilus as root, still no joy. (Using nautilus GUI to browse files to move to other folders.. how can I change these settings to allow me to be able to write to this drive again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE-11.4+KDE and have not been able to access my Sansa Express drive. I can pull it up part way, but it acts as read only. I'm not sure what settings I may need to make in the Partitioner to fix this.If I boot into a LiveCD of LinuxMint10-KDE and plug it in it is instantly identified as a "Media Device," and I have access into the MTP section of it I believe.

From this morning my account suddenly became read only. For example, when I open a file to edit, it shows [readonly] and it wont let me change anything. However, when I look at the permissions by issuing ls -l command, it indicates that read write permissions for the owner is on. As a user, my whole account is stored under home, the account has all three permissions read, write and execute.Can anybody please tell me how to get rid of the read only attribute?

However, after turning it off, I can't ever turn it on again unless I restart the computer. And because of this, the wireless connection is disabled until the next time I start the computer.I don't think this is a hardware problem because the switch can be turned on and off, although not in the way I expect.
I'm using ubuntu 9.10 on an Acer Aspire 4740G. The command [lspci | grep Network] shows Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01). the [rfkill list] command shows (when the switch is on)

a public radio station. The machine's limited in memory and

under Red Hat 7.3. I want the ability to run X11, but normally
gdm/X11 will be disabled. The audio commands I need are aumix,
arecord and sox/play.
When I log in under X11, pulseaudio starts up and everything code...
I recently bought 320 GB Trancend external hard disk and working fine days back.Earlier i could copy from and to the hard disk with out any issue. I dont know what happened after that now i am not able to write any files in to the external hard disk. This is not NTFS formatted device. here is some of the out put from terminal.

View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I right click on my CD/DVD with my DVD+RW popped in the drive, it freezes for like 10 minutes and then it unfreezes with nothing happening.I think I formatted it before using ImgBurn but when I did it went from 4.7GB capacity to 3GB. Is it possible that I accidentally turned my double-layered DVD to single-layer? If so is there a way to turn it back to double-layer?

It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.
I've got a problem with my VLC MediaPlayer (v1.0.3-GoldenEye). During video-playback, my screenbrightness is turned to zero after approx- 30 seconds of playback. After turning the screen brightness to high again, the same thing starts over again. By now, I encountered that changing screen resolutions (e.g. after closing a fullscreen application with a different resolution) also turns my brightness to 0.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using handbrake for a long time to encode dvd's to mp4.The dvd's always resides on HDD in VIDEO_TS structure.Previously I always could select the folder as there was an option for that on the bottom left after you selected "source".Suddenly now that option to read the whole folder is gone. I can only select a single file. I didn't fiddle with it or anything. That option is just suddenly gone.

The channel is not muted, the volume is 100%, and not even rebooting fixes it. It will just start working on its own.Under the Sound Preferences panel, the output volume is 100%. The channel is not muted. I can get sound out of the internal speaker by changing the connector to "Analog Output (LFE) / No Amplifier", but not out of the "Analog Output / Amplifier" which is the green sound cable plugged into the sound card.I only use this machine as a video player using VLCNothing else.I would like to know some tricks to isolate and troubleshoot this when it happens.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get any sound from either online audio or from a CD in drive. I've watched videos with sound with only occasional problems until today. I have been using MPlayer with internal audio 1 output - analog stereo output. When I start a vid, it will begin to D/L and play, but without sound. When I try to check the volume level everything pauses and then my system freezes. Sometimes it will release in a few seconds, but mostly it won't allow me to close Firefox and if I try to close the tab or window or Firefox, I have to reboot. Sometimes the vid will D/L without a problem, but no audio on playback. Oddly, when I bring up the system monitor, processors will show 1 or 2 cores stuck at 100% while the others fluctuate wildly. Download speed falls to almost nothing with occasional blips or nothing. I checked several sites and they all have the same problem. I have checked my physical connections, and bios settings.
There is an option for a RS780 Azalia controller 1 output Digital Stereo (HDMI) output, but I have not been able to make it work since the system was new. I don't know why.
This is the most recent SYSLOG file. The pulse audio errors have always been there, but since it didn't seem to affect playback, I didn't run it down.

I'm using Ubuntu and my sound was working fine and then suddenly it just stopped working.
It does however, have odd spells where its working (for like 2 minutes) but those spells are few and far between. So basically the sound is not working.
When it isn't working my speaker seem to be making these hissing/screeching noises.
I've tried looking up on Google on how to fix it, i.e. running terminals, etc. but still haven't come round to fixing it. Could someone explain to me how to fix the sound please?
And no, the speakers aren't on mute. I checked volume control and everything is full.

I have been using Skype 2.2 beta on Ubuntu 11.04 using a Logitech 260 camera/microphone -- all with excellent results -- for the past couple of weeks.Today, for some reason unknown to me, my Skype contacts began telling me that my audio was nearly unintelligible, though I had no problem hearing them. I initially thought the problem was at their end; but then I did a test call and listened to the play-back of my own voice recording, and it was awful. I was trying to use it on skype and it did nothing, although the program recognises I have a webcam, I tried cheese and the power light on my webcam comes on but again the screen does nothing.

Two days ago connected my laptop and TV, in order to use the TV as a second monitor, to watch a football match (I only have IPTV). Only thing I had to do was to go to System -> Preferences -> Sound and switch (in the hardware tab) my Internal Audio Hardware from Analog Stereo Duplex to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input.
So after the match I switched it back to Analog Stereo Duplex and proceeded to skype with my girlfriend. Problem was, the mic stopped working. It works just fine in 'Input' tab of my sound preferences, as well as in sound recorder. She, in skype, heard nothing but static. Test call doesn't work either. Now I've done all the usual stuff, Skype isn't allowed to automatically adjust mixer levels and my mic is already boosted. I've reinstalled skype and everything. I'm running out of ideas.
