I downloaded some .iso files recently, and don't really know what to do with them. Unless I'm mistaken, I should burn them onto a CD, and then be able to mount them and get the program to run, but that doesn't seem to be working. All it does when I put the disk in is open the folders showing all the files. Am I completely off base with what I'm doing, or is there just a step I'm missing or something?

Thing is, here I need to talk with a Windows server. How do I do that. In addition, their server may require a VPN, which seems to add another layer of complexity.

OS: ubuntu10.04 LTS running on latest oracle virtualbox. This works: I have opened a ubuntu one account. And I can log into that account. But I have to do so by: clicking 'ubuntu one' in top bar, and click 'account' in prompt that appears. Shouldn't log in take place automatically? Being logged in I'm able to make new folders. And appearently able to enter them (they are empty I quess) If I try to upload a file clicking 'upload file' in ubuntu one. A prompt appears and I choose the file to upload and click 'continue'. The prompt says "uploading" but nothing happens. If I choose a document folder and click 'mouse click right'. And then click 'sync with ubuntu one'. It prompts that it syncs the folders. But nothing happens.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat used to work flawlessly in F14 now does not work in F15. I have done a fresh installation of F15 and all seemed to go well other than a few minor tweaks. In F14 I had an /etc/fstab file that worked well but in F15 does not work. I have 3 external USB drives, mybook, black & StoreIt. With F14 my fstab worked very well and booted regardless of weather or not any particular drive was connected at any given time. Typically I have the mybook and black connected at home and the StoreIt connected at work, but regardless it would boot and work without any problems.

I have a firefox browser and have tried to download mp3 files (usually off beemp3). Once I press download it immediately brings me to a new window or tab and just plays it for me. There is no download no matter what application I install for linux or firefox. Is it just linux that doesn't allow me to download mp3 files or is it something to do with firefox?

How the program reads its configuration file and how it understands its syntax (file format)? Also, a further question is how the program knows where its configuration file is being located?
For example inittab has its own "Identifier:RunLevel:Action:Command" format. How this is recognised by the "init" process?
Finally went open source at home, but must be able to load QB to work with data files already for me to load into program. Will my system at home allow me to load QB Pro Premier 2009? Or alternative apps that will let me load and work with the data?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rename a lot of files getting rid of the space on the names. For that purpose I wrote this very simple bash script, but for some reason is not working.

done But what I get in return for each line is just one long file name with all the file names concatenated. I've tried with echo -e "$i" as well with no results. This has to be something really simple that I'm missing but I just can't see it.
I just installed gnome-mplayer and gecko-mediaplayer on Debian Squeeze (after removing Parole and its browser plugin). Now when I right-click on a file in Thunar, the menu instantly vanishes unless I hold the right mouse button down. The menu works fine, but having to hold the button down is mildly annoying.
The funny thing is, right-clicking on the background in Thunar works exactly as expected; I never have to hold down the button. And this is definitely not a mouse problem, because I can observe the exact same behavior with any mouse or touchpad.
Update: switching to a different GTK theme seems to have fixed it.
I currently mirror the updates repository to my computer using rsync. I was wondering if I could save space and bandwidth by only rsyncing the .delta.rpm files? Are there any disadvantages to this or does zypper/YAST handle updates just fine with it?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have tried following the instructions for installing but nothing seems to work that do i need to know or ask that i am not doing to make this work. i made a dvd from the .iso but it does not want to do anything. i talked with the board manufacture about the bios needing to recognize the dvd but he said that bios does not have anything to do with it. it only sees it as an optical drive. what are the files on the dvd that the boot system needs to see for it to work? and lastly why does linux have to make things sooooo difficult.

I'm hoping to find a batch of codecs for my newly installed openSUSE OS. I have a very troublesome collection of .mkv files that took several codec packs to make them work. For a brief explanation, I had tried haali and matroska both together and they still didn't work on certain mkvs. I ended up using CCCP, but that's win only as far as I can tell. It took the latest update of CCCP to work on all of my mkvs.
New subversion user here. I've run into a nasty problem. It seems that nautilus chokes any time it tries to display a directory containing .svn files. There seems to be some sort of timeout involved per object under version control. The larger the directory, the longer it takes to display. I'm talking minutes here for a fairly ordinary sized directory.
Now I know that nautilus is painfully slow even at the best of times, but this is just ridiculous. These delays are crippling. I have no problem with nautilus and svn files on my work machine, which has centos. So it looks to me like something is misconfigured somewhere. And it is something specific to .svn files.
I have some files on server with the date several months ago, but invisible for `find -mtime 7` search. When I list them as `ls -l` they look perfectly normal:

"find -mtime" does not work as expected on files with different timezones?
I am used to Ubuntus simple sharing with samba. Just install it, reboot and then share the files.Then do I klick on network folder and see all the shared files on the computers in the network.
How do I install it so I only need to go into network folder and see the other computers shared files.Then, how do I share files?
I hope it's not so difficult and that I have to change i config-files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn a KDE4 environment after downloading some music from rapidshare with JDownloader the archives self-extracted with the symbol in some of the file names. Those files couldn't be renamed or deleted, the file manager said that the files didn't exist - very weird. The files should have had some swedish characters in their file names. Now I'm stuck with those files on my machine. Anyone knows how to get rid of them?

This doesn't work:
When uploading files, it prompts "uploading". But never finish. And files do not get uploaded. To sync a folder on desktop and ubuntu one never works.
