Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound From Headphone On Acer Timeline 8172
Oct 24, 2010
on my new laptop Acer TravelMate TimelineX 8172T, I have some sound problems. I do have sound from the laptop speakers, but plugging in the headphones doesn't mute the main speakers, and also does not give any sound on the headphones. I am running Kubuntu 10.10 64 bit here, and any hint how to solve this would be very welcome indeed.Alsa is version 1.0.23, but alsamixer doesn't show any devices. It only says "Device: HDA Intel" and "Chip: Conexant CX20585", but the elements list is empty and no volume sliders are shown.

I have a problem with headphone sound with my Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820 TG. When I insert the headphones, the sound from speakers stop, but there is no sound in the headphones. Manipulating with the alsamixer did not help. Modifying /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf also did not help.

I'm trying to "convert" my cousin with Slackware somehow. Her laptop is an Acer Timeline 3810T. But i'm having some problem with the hotkey fn+f5. F5 works, but fn+f5 (should have been XF86Display) doesn't. It doesn't generate any acpi nor x event as i checked (on slackware at least). BIOS upgraded but wouldn't fix, searched but couldn't find any talk about this.I wonder if anyone had experienced the same problem. Hope i could fix this else i probably must install XP (if this was mine, i probably would be fine with xrandr though :P)

I just got my new laptop (Acer Timeline 3810T) but I'm having trouble installing F11. The specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo processor, SU9400; Intel GMA 4500MHD; 4GB memory; no CD/DVD drive.I'm trying to install from a live cd in a USB drive using this link URl...I can boot without problems, but then when I try to start Fedora I get a screen with a pattern of orange and black colors which flickers for one second or less and then just a black screen. I cannot verify the live cd either, I get the same black screen.
It obviously looks like a video issue but I'm not sure how to solve it. By the way, there's a long thread about installing Ubuntu 9.04 at URL... and there are several known issues, but I didn't see anything like this. I'll try to install Ubuntu later and see how it goes, but I'd really like to be able to get Fedora working...

I got a brandnew Acer Travelmate Timeline X (13"). I do not really know if this is the right topic for my problem. But here it comes: The Acer uses a special smart battery with special chips in it controling the powermanagement of the battery and the system. In general there is a kernel module to handle this (sbs). But for me this does not work.I am using Squeeze and it does not recognize the battery. It always acts like being on AC power. If I unplugg the AC it runs with the battery till it is empty. But the ACPI can not recognize the battery and can not read how much lifetime it has. I tried the reassambling method. But this method does not work for me. Nevertheless I think the reassambling method does not run because there is no more developing on it because of the kernel modul.
What can I do? Will I have to wait till a new workaround of sbs comes out, which can handle my battery? I read about a BIOS hack that disables the smart battery functions. Should I try this? But I am not really firm in that kind of stuff and I will loose the guarantee. Has anyone got an idea?

I want to install OpenSUSE 11.2 on my Acer TimeLine 3810TZ which has no DVD Drive and it reports that it's written it A-OK.So I go to my laptop, enter the BIOS to give priority boot to the USB (It has Three USB entries, USB-CDROM, USB-HDD, USB-FDD, so I just put them all before any HDDs, figuring it'd cycle through them) and reboot with my stick in one of the USB slots.
And then it hangs on the BIOS. It lights up my USB Stick's activity light like crazy, but it never actually leaves the BIOS screen (POST screen). Any idea what's going on? I'm kind of stuck with Windows Vista, and we all know how bad that is

I installed Debian Squeeze on a new Acer Timeline.
lscpci gave me this
I used the Debian Wiki [url] to get the wireless working, but it's not happening.
iwconfig gives this:
The Network Manager shows (under Wired Networks) ifupdown(eth0) - I've never seen the "ifupdown" here. Wireless shows as disabled.
When I boot I see a few of these:
But I get No DHCPOFFERS received. So, Wireless is disabled.

I have a Dell Vostro 320 running Ubuntu 10.10. I can get sound through the onboard speakers but when I plug headphones into the jack, the onboard speakers mute (correct behaviour), but no sound comes from the headphones (incorrect behaviour). The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:
The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. The alsa-base.conf file has the following as the last line as per various posts that seem to have a fix for this problem:options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro position_fix=0 enable=yes.

I'm dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on a new HP laptop. In Ubuntu, I'm not getting any sound from the headphone jack. I've tried a couple of different solutions but haven't had much luck. Sound works through the internal speakers in both Windows and Ubuntu. Sound through the headphone jack works only in Windows. The sound card is a IDT 92HD75B3X5.This is a fresh 9.10 install, save for the changes mentioned below.I've attempted to use the gnome-alsa fix that's mentioned in a few threads, but I don't have a "Headphone" tab to "un-mute".I've attempted to recompile the driver as mentioned in this thread

I have a laptop DELL Latitude D600. The sounds works great and I can control it with the laptop buttons (increase/decrease/mute volume).
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. In prior versions, I could control independently the volume for the speakers and for the headphones. And I was able to "join" them together so that when I increase the volume, it increases in both.
Now in 10.04 I can't find where to join them. But that's fine. The problem I have now is that the volume for the headphones seems to be a 10x multiplier of the "master" volume. For example, in order to hear "normal" on the headphones, the master volume has to be almost on mute. If I increase to 1/4 of the way out, the sound is too loud for a human being.
I went to alsamixer to see what's going on and started with everything at 0.
So I put my mouse on top of the volume control on the taskbar and with one "click" on the wheel (to increase volume) I get this code...
That's just one 'click' of the wheel... and the volume control shows almost nothing on the volume bar (the tooltip says Output: 5% -75.70 dB.
In the past the 5% gain in the output was proportional for the headphones. But now it's multiplied by a lot. This makes the volume control useless when using headphones. I have to go to alsamixer to adjust manually.
And to top it off, the new Ubuntu doesn't have the "old" volume control where you can see the level of each output element.

When I plug in some external speakers in the headphone jack, the sound disappears. If I unplug them I can hear the sound again. Does anyone know how to workaround this problem?
I got two sound options:
1. The HDMI digital sound output of my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
2. Analog sound output
I am using the analog sound in duplex mode (one stereo input one stereo output A quick solution would be great The sound of the internal speakers is really horrible xD

I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.
I am using an acer 4530 laptop. It has a nvidia Nforce MCP77 chipset. and the o/p lsmod| grep snd :
Code:
I did a alsa-info and upload the details at:[url]

I have a Toshiba Satellite L655, workin with Maverick. Sound comes out of my main speakers that are on my laptop, but when I try to plug in my Bose headphones or my Logitech speakers, they don't want to work period. The headphone jack works I know for a fact because it works in Windows.
When I open up Kmix, it doesn't show my headphone port at all, it shows up "RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI)" which is my TV's audio output and then my main laptops "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".

I believe my issue is that my computer is not detecting it because when i go to sound options it only shows internal audio under my hardware profile
