I can't for the life of me find the option to encode my video in H264 in Pitivi. There's just about every other codec imaginable in the list. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit and everything is up to date.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have some videos in an mkv container that are 1920 pixels wide, but less than 1080 pixels high. This causes problems when playing the videos on a PS3 (after converting to an AVCHD system), because the PS3 won't centre the video, leaving a very large black bar at the bottom but none at the top. Is there a way to use mencoder or ffmpeg to losslessly add padding to the top and bottom to make the video 1920x1080?

I use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04, and usually I record my desktop with the program "Record my Desktop", the format of the video is: .ogg, when I had Ubuntu Karmic Koala, I recorded my screen then in kdenlive added audio and effects and all's right, but now i update to Lucid Lynx, and trying to edit my video in Kdenlive and I obtain this screen(I attached my screen), I noticed that the new video that I record after the upgrade of Ubuntu, I can't view the preview with Kdenlive, but with the old record, I can view the preview. And also i noticed that with pitivi, the new program to edit videos of Lucid Lynx, works fine, with new and old recordings, don't have problem.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am trying to export a video from pitivi in a format that can be uploaded to videos. i found this thread which suggests using an flv muxer with the l.a.m.e. mp3 encoder. my problem is that my pitivi doesn't list lame as an option, and i haven't been able to get it in.
i have tried reinstalling lame from the repositories, and also building lame, ffmpeg, gstreamer, faac, x264 and pitivi from the latest source. i simply can't get a video format to export that works in videos. mp4 and other format exports don't seem to work at all, they get stuck on the first frame.
pitivi can export ogg video perfectly, however if i try to upload that to videos it comes out with bad video. i've tried converting the ogg video to avi with mencoder, but it drops a lot of frames and ends up with the audio badly out of sync. i've run out of ideas to try -- anyone been through this before, or know of something i may be doing wrong? i'm certainly no expert in building from source (or anything!), it just seemed like something to try...
I have a video edited in Pitivi. The source files were recorded from a VHS tape, so it's NTSC size (720x480).
Problem is that when I render it the output looks stretched vertically. When I play it in Totem Movie Player, the aspect ratio option can be changed from "Auto" to "4:3 TV" and then it looks correct.
How can I render the output file with a different aspect ratio?
I tried going into Project Settings and adjusting the Video Output height and width, but this doesn't change the aspect ratio. Also tried PAL and VGA instead of NTSC. What should I try next?
Using the version of Pitivi that comes with a fresh install of 10.04 LTS.
I used K3B to rip some of my DVDs (using the Xvid codec) onto my laptop to take away on holiday with me. This worked fine for 2 of the DVDs but the 3rd one ended up with the audio out of sync with the video. Fortunately VLC comes to the rescue with the ability to offset the video and audio tracks.Is there a way to re-encode the ripped files to permanently fix the offset.

I've been using VLC for everything, now there is no video, only sound with the error message: p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". I needed to do some things that I used to do with Vegas but with any success. Cinelerra looks like crap and prompts a lot of errors I need a really GOOD video editting tool.

dragonplayer emitted the same output, so I assumed it was something amiss in one of the libraries they both use. mplayer plays the video, so I'm not without recourse, but it would be nice to know what's up with the segfaults. Anyone seen something like this?

It seems I have lost a few of my dvds and I backed them up into mkv and I need to convert it to pal so it will work until I find them. My search was leading to other formats, but I was wanting to use pal because it is smaller. My search lead me here, but this shell script is not in pal.I need a solution that would work with slackware.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI Updated from Fedora 9 to Fedora 13 several months ago and noticed that AAC audio encoder was no more available in Avidemux (I use version 2.5.3.3 for fedora 13 from rpmfusion repo)Unfortunately AAC is mandatory on the IPod (and probably other Apple devices) to have the sound working.I had faad2-libs (decoder) and faac (encoder) packages installed, but avidemux was not using them.After some search on the web, I found that faac support was removed because of legal issues.Some people recommend to rebuild Avidemux from source but this was a little bit complicated, and I found an easier solution.
In fact the only thing needed to add AAC support to Avidemux is to add the required libADM_ae_faac.so library in /usr/lib/ADM_plugins/audioEncoders, as it is no more supplied in the package avidemux-plugins. Searching for libADM_ae_faac.so on the Web, I found some packages containing this file, such as the ones from other distros, and the package for the same Avidemux version than the one I use but for Fedora 11 : avidemux-plugins-2.5.3-3.fc11.i586.rpm.
There's so little documentation for GLC that it's nearly impossible to get it working. I just tried encoding a file I made using the script provided, and got this output:

I have been doing some very basic editing in Pitivi and how to get it to encode to X.264. I'm encoding to 480p and I was wondering how do I change the setting to make make it encode to X.264 and look good at small or ok file sizes. I will be uploading these to ..... and want them to look sexy.
And if X.264 can't encode to X.264 then at lest how do I turn the quality up in the formats that it does support.
I have 10.04 LTS but no internet connection due to driver problems. I need an AVI. plugin to use PiTiVi. Any links that I can download in Windows and run them in Ubuntu to make AVI. work?

with windows and sony vegas 9 i am used to often rendering with compressed hd avi and uncompressed audio, as this gets mangled far less by videos's compression policy if you have music in your videos, in my case home-made with acoustic guitar. with my two current installations of ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop and pc no output format i've tried lets the raw audio option work, which is the only option that looks like it would keep my wav files as they are. the rendered video is silent, with totem displaying the icon for muted sound when the film is played. unmuting doesn't correct this.
is this a bug or are there other codecs to add for this? aiff would be fine even i think. i wondered if changing the bit rate of aac from the 256000 i currently have entered (rather than the default 128000) to the bit rate of uncompressed audio might force what i need, kind of like ms's newer lossless wma.
i installed the restricted extras packages. there is quite a list in the pitivi options including a lot of ffmpeg stuff. i don't know if additionally vlc's codecs are added or anything like that.
I recently migrated my system to Karmic 9.10 from Hardy 8.04 Now that I want to convert some .avi videos to H.264 in Kino for upload, it doesn't work. In Hardy all was fine, I'd import the .avi files and export to h.264 mp4, then upload to ..... etc ... no problems. But with karmic; after I import the file into Kino, I then trim out the bits I don't want. Next I go to Export and select H.264 MP4 Single Pass (ffmpeg), then click the Export button; it 'locks the audio' and that's it - takes 5 seconds to 'finish' no matter how long the video clip is, and no mp4 file is generated or appears in the selected folder (same result with H.264 MP4 Dual Pass).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently have mplayer installed with the binary codecs in place, but it seems that mplayer is quite picky with which files it wants to play.
I have three files that are all mp4 h264 .mkv's. One of them is ~20 minutes long (720p) and mplayer seems to do just fine. Another is around ~90 minutes (1080p) and within seconds the audio gets out of sync. The third file is also around ~90 minutes long (1080p) and refuses to play at all, throwing a mess of:

Error while decoding frame!
The machine is fairly old (Athlon 64 X2 4200+), but I don't think it's a hardware performance issue. When it was running Windows XP it could handle any HD video I threw at it. Each one of these files plays perfectly on my Windows machine with Media Player Classic Home Cinema + ffmpeg...
Is there something wrong with ffmpeg or is support for h264 just not there yet?
I've setup a EEEBox 1501P exclusively to work as a Media Center. So i've picked up Ubuntu 11.04 x64, and Boxee x64 (latest), and installed the nVIDIA drivers directly from site. The problem is that video playback at 720p is a bit sloppy! I've tried on VLC player for example, and the CPU cores are at 10%. But when i use Boxee, one core gets stuck at 100%, and the others at 10%.
So this means that currently, boxee, cannot handle hardware acceleration in x86_64 Linux! My question is:What software can I use to set-up my Ubuntu-based Media Center?
when using windows xp i used to use tmpeng to encode films is there any good applications to use on ubuntu ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post in this forum. After trying out every video compositing program I found for Linux, I am about to settle with KDEnlive. It looks like the best allrounder professional program in this section to me.
I only got one problem. I cant encode files with mpeg-4. All options here are grayed out and if I hover over one of the options for a moment it's going to tell me:
"Unsupported audio codec: libmp3lame" Whats funny is that it worked a time before i reinstalled my system. I also checked and I got libmp3lame installed. So why has KDEnlive problems to access this library?
I have a JVC Everio video camera that records directly DVD compliant mpeg files. Does anyone have a solution how to prevent re-rendering the files since that takes a lot of time and usually the end result is worse than the original one...If PiTiVi does not enable this can anyone propose some other program to do this?
