Debian Multimedia :: Can't Render Text With Kino

Feb 11, 2015

When trying to render text with kino on amd64, I get:

Kino experienced a segmentation fault.

Dumping stack from the offending thread

Obtained 2 stack frames.
kino() [0x43bdb0]
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x321e0) [0x7f844b8401e0]

Done dumping - exiting.

I tried 'rm -rf ~/.kino-history' but this did not work.

I realized what I could have done wrong. I added deb-multimedia.org as a repository and installed mythtv and avidemux. I also did an update with aptitude and an upgrade with aptitude.

Debian Multimedia :: Kino Ffmpeg Export Options?

Jan 27, 2011

I use Kino to transfer dv from my camera and also use it for video editing, but there are very few GUI options when it comes to transcoding the edited files into, say, h264. Kino is using ffmpeg, and I know there are a plethora of options. For instance, here is the output of the logfile from a file I made with h264 and the best quality available in Kino.#options: 768x576 fps=25/1 cabac=0 ref=1 deblock=0:0:0 analyse=0x1:0 me=dia subme=8 psy_rd=1.0:0.0 mixed_ref=0 me_range=4 chroma_me=0 trellis=0 8x8dct=0 cqm=0 deadzone=21,11 chroma_qp_offset=-2 threads=2 nr=0 decimate=1 mbaff=0 bframes=0 keyint=300 keyint_min=25 scenecut=0(pre) rc=abr bitrate=2048 ratetol=2.0 qcomp=0.50 qpmin=2 qpmax=31 qpstep=3 ip_ratio=1.25 aq=1:1.00Frankly, I am not that impressed with the result, and would like to use settings that give a better result, e.g. adjusting bitrate and more passes

Ubuntu :: MetaPost - Text Forces Image Not To Render?

Feb 3, 2010

For some reason under Ubuntu 9.10 (x86 and x64), MetaPost refuses to render any images that contain text. If you open the file for Image.1, it opens evince and it hangs indefinitely. I can create images perfectly fine and render this as long as there is no text. Am I missing any specific font packages or something that I should be using? I know that it works under Windows. I also know that on a different machine I had a while back (running Ubuntu 8.04, I believe), I had it working then.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Kino - Video Capture Utility?

Does anybody know what has happened to Kino - the video capture utility? Used to be packaged by packman for Opensuse but doesn't seem to be available for 11.2.

Is there an alternative I can use for video capture - or has packman just not gotten around to adding this yet?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kino Capture - Dropped Frames

I'm getting dropped frames from both Digital8 & MiniDV camcorders using Kino. MyCPU doesn't seem to be spiking. I've made sure compiz is disabled and no memory/cpu hungry apps are running. I'm using SATA drives so DMA shouldn't be the issue.

The video and audio that is captured seems to be fine.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kino H264 Doesn't Work In Karmic

Feb 11, 2010

I recently migrated my system to Karmic 9.10 from Hardy 8.04 Now that I want to convert some .avi videos to H.264 in Kino for upload, it doesn't work. In Hardy all was fine, I'd import the .avi files and export to h.264 mp4, then upload to ..... etc ... no problems. But with karmic; after I import the file into Kino, I then trim out the bits I don't want. Next I go to Export and select H.264 MP4 Single Pass (ffmpeg), then click the Export button; it 'locks the audio' and that's it - takes 5 seconds to 'finish' no matter how long the video clip is, and no mp4 file is generated or appears in the selected folder (same result with H.264 MP4 Dual Pass).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Capture Video From Sony DCR-HC54 With Kino

Jul 10, 2010

I'm trying to capture video from my Sony DCR-HC21 video camera. I've managed to install Kino fine but was getting the error

aw 1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw/1394
I could get it working by opening as root but then the files belong to root which I didn't want. So I did the following (as suggested in another thread:

chmod 777 /dev/raw1394

And now I get the error "No AV/C compliant cam connected or not switched on"

I've tried so many things ie [URL]

and as I'm a novice I'm reluctant to keep trying random things when I don't really know what its doing.

OK, it's back to the first error, is there anyway to run Kino and capture video without changing to root?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Slow Glxgear And Render?

Jun 20, 2011

i've used ubuntu as main system from a few months to now and i'm finding my first big problem. I can use games and see movies without any problem, even using wine i can play wow at 40+ fps with medium/high options. Recently i've downloaded and instaled ogre and found that, if i try to render the sample modelit slows down. It says it is showing about 2kfps, but the model moves as if it was at 1 or 2 fps. By chance, i saw that if i open wow and then render the model of ogre, suddendly it goes smooth. Trying to find the problem, i went to the system test option of ubuntu11, when i arrieved glxgears test, it showed a really slow performance. Tried with wow opened and... magic!, it runs like hell XD. Then i tried calling glxgears from console, it says 9k+ fps, but again it went really slow! don't know whats happening.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Using OpenShot To Render For Windows Playback?

Mar 20, 2010

Although I am an obsessed Ubuntu user, I am also a realist. When I have to give a presentation, I often have to use someone else's computer, and that system invariably runs windows. So when presenting via Powerpoint with embedded video on a default windows install, I need to be certain that the video format will play correctly. It is hard to convince windows users that Ubuntu is better if your videos/slides/documents etc don't play nice with their setups.

I have used kdenlive before (on OpenSuse) and it has a wmv export profile which works, but I was really hoping to sort this out using Ubuntu.

export settings or profiles in OpenShot that will definitely work for me??

I know that Openoffice Impress on Ubuntu plays every format I've ever tried flawlessly -- but when you give a talk somewhere you are often using someone else's computer and it is usually windows

Ubuntu :: By Default Pango Is Choosing AR PL UMing CN As Font To Render Japanese Text When Current Font Doesn't Have Japanese Glyphs

May 4, 2010

Actually I want to log a bug but I don't really know what package to log it against. The problem is that by default Pango is choosing the AR PL UMing CN as the font to render Japanese text when the current font doesn't have Japanese glyphs. But AR PL UMing CN is a Chinese font, so Chinese glyphs for kanji characters (e.g., 覚) are displayed. This is jarring and confusing for Japanese readers.

This situation mostly arises when you have mixed English and Japanese text. Some applications (for instance Firefox) will allow you to select a font for Asian text. Thus if the text contains only Asian characters it will use the font you select, rather than what Pango would have selected. But if it is a mix of English and Japanese, you end up with the wrong glyphs.

Other environments (like gnome-terminal, or a gedit) have difficulties as well. Since the primary interface requires mono spaced roman characters you run into difficulty selecting fonts. Most Japanese fonts only have proportional roman characters. This means that if use a nice roman font and use Japanese text (for instance file names), you end up with Chinese glyphs. What I want is a mechanism that will work across all of Gnome for selecting the font I want to use for Chinese characters. That way I can choose either Japanese or Chinese glyphs.

I realize this is low priority. It only bugs me a little, but many of my Japanese colleagues are put off from using Ubuntu because they are confused by the Chinese glyphs that pop up on my screen from time to time. As I said, I'd like to file a bug, but I'm not sure against what package...

General :: Flaky Debian Squeeze Install - Freezes - Render Error Detected - EIR - 0x00000000

May 14, 2011

The message above occurred with GEdit running in background and while attempting to use yahoo mail in Iceweasel. System froze and I rebooted.

While Iceweasel has been the browser used the most since installing the system and has been the program in use during the freezes, Epiphany was also tested and was far less functional, with rendering failures occurring with nearly each modification of a page, though not all fatal. With Epiphany, re-rendering and reloading of a page was only accomplished by using my mouse wheel, other input methods left a gray, unusable screen.

My installation was complicated by the following factors and goals: dual-boot capability with the idea of loading another linux flavor such as Ubuntu onto a partition. retain 2 "legacy" ReiserFS data partitions used under Debian Etch. use 1 ReiserFS partition as /home

What suggestions do you all have on stopping these system freezes and errors?

Other possibly useful factors:

I chose "Expert" (graphical) install as it seemed the only way to enable dual-boot capability.

I loaded the ReiserFS compatibility modules during the system install.

I chose the "highlighted" kernel during the install out of 4 choices. The kernel I chose is Linux version 2.6.32-5-686 (Debian 2.6.32-31) (ben@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.3.5 (Debian 4.3.5-4) ) #1 SMP Tue Mar 8 21:36:00 UTC 2011 - however I cannot rule out the possibility that one of the other 3 kernels wouldn't have worked better.

I chose to enable the version of the system that had the most options for hardware compatibility instead of a more limited, smaller system customized to my hardware.

The default system settings for inactivity would log me off, as ppropriate. Because of a pattern of problems awakening from sleep mode, on 5/13 3am I changed the log off setting to never to avoid errors when the system should awaken. But still yet another freeze at on 5/13 at 22:49 while multiple windows were open.

Debian Multimedia :: Text Not Showing Up In Dialogs On Firefox

Jan 27, 2015

I just installed a fresh install of Debian Wheezy to an old Pentium 4 desktop computer I found on Craigslist. Everything is mostly up and running but I've been encountering an odd issue with Firefox. Whenever I type text into either a search or text dialog on Youtube, Facebook or on Duck Duck Go the text is invisible. I can highlight the text to see what I have written, but obviously this is quite annoying not to be able to view what I am typing in these places in real-time. The strange thing is that it is only these sites that I have found, everywhere else (reddit, google, Debian forums as well) can see what I am typing. I'm using Firefox 35.0 right now.

Debian Multimedia :: Text Invisible On Epiphany And Iceweasel?

Jan 24, 2011

I can't find a solution for not seeing any texts on html5 web pages. I haven't found any other report about such an odd behaviour on the web so far. Even on the new W3C web page (see the screenshot below for details) I can't see any texts. They are just invisible. I can mark and copy them, but there is nothing to see on Iceweasel 3.0.6 and Epiphany 2.22.3.

Because both browsers behave the same way I guess it's not a browser issue, but something more basic. My Debian Lenny stable should be unblemished because I've never used anything else than the main sources. I can't believe, that the W3C has switched to a new standard without propper fallback-support for older browser versions...

Debian Multimedia :: Changing Default Text Editor In Xfce

The only solution that I found on Google was to right click on a given text file, select 'open with other application', sleect gedit, and make sure that the "use as default kind" button is checked. Unfortunately this only works for text files with the same extension as the original file. Is there a way of setting every text file to open with gedit by default that doesn't involve repeating this exercise for every possible text file extension (.c, .py, .h, .hs, etc.)?

Debian Multimedia :: Avconv Downsizing Resolution - Can't Read Text

Dec 3, 2015

I have recently began to use libav and had an issue I was running into.. Not exactly how to word it so I will simply state the symptoms..

Goal: Create a screencast demo on linux, play it back on a windows machine.

I am running this command to record the screen, installed libav:

avconv -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1600x900 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 -threads 4 /home/sysadmin/Desktop/output.avi

The issue I am running into is, when I try to play this file in Windows Media Player or even VLC on the linux host, the default size of the video results in the text in the terminal to be unreadable..

When I re-size the video, as in blow it up to full screen, I can see the text clearly..

The playback device is running something like 1280x1020 resolution. Is there a way to make it so that the text will also be readable?

Debian Multimedia :: Scribus Crashes When Editing Text In Layout Mode
