across this problem when the changes I was making (such as adding lyrics, cover art, etc) weren't being saved to either my computer or my iPod. I figured out that the problem was the there was no PC file location. When I tried to add my Music folder (all files are .ogg), it gave me an error saying that all the files were incompatible. Any information on how to fix this would be amazing.Note: I can still sync through Banshee, so it's not a immediate problem. However, I can't add lyrics since Banshee doesn't support that, so I would like to get this fixed.

View 1 Replies View Relatedive spent days figuring out how to sync my iphone 3gs firmware 3.1.3 in ubuntu 10.04. my laptop can detect my iphone, i can actually browse its folder. (i can see photos and music from my phone, i tried to paste some photos in a certain folder and went well, just in ONE folder).
i tried almost all instructions i can find on net, but nothing is working well. i even freshly installed my ubuntu, thinking that i did something wrong in my first attempt. still cant sync music and photos.
i transferred songs already to my phone using itunes in windows (on another laptop). they said that doing this can initialize my iphone, but it didnt work.
Its a dell e510 with about a gig of ram. I'm struggling to get my ipod touch working with the gtkpod ipod manager. At this point my ipod shows on my desktop when i connect it via usb. I cannot set up the repository for it in gtkpod because i dont know the location its mounting to. if its mounting at all. so my question is. how can i tell where my ipod is being mounted? I dont have a clue what to look for in the terminal results for "df -a"
But this is what i get:
Code:

Edit : Itouch = first generation 8gb Edit 2: I would like to create a sticky thread that helps new users answer questions about ipods. Will a moderator please let me know what i should include in their opinion? ex. using wine to run itunes, gtkpod and how to set it up, using mm players like banshee and songbird... what version of ubuntu works best with the ipods.
I've been trying to get my iPod touch (8GB, jailbroken) to connect with gtkpod iPod manager. But whenever I try to load the iPod I get this message.
Quote:
iPod Database Import Failed: 'illegal seek offset 0 (length 4) in file '/media/ipod/test/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB'.'
I am dual booting XP and Ubuntu 10.04, but in the future I will be getting a new machine and I will only be running Ubuntu and won't have access to iTunes. Because I have an iPod Touch, I have been trying to find workarounds for syncing everything that iTunes took care of in the past. One problem I have is managing movies. I have looked through various media players/iPod management tools (Amarok, Rhythmbox, gtkpod) and I am using Rhythmbox to sync my music and and attempting to use gtkpod to sync my movies.
gtkpod is able to sync songs (Tested with a few minute test clip) and short *.mp4 files (15mb I know for sure from test). I am unable, however, to get it to sync a movie (~700mb) I am able to drag it onto my iPod in gtkpod, but when I try to save the changes and write the files, it hangs at "Copying Tracks" at 0%. It eventually crashes during the couple times I have tried to wait it out. So this being my situation, my question is, is there a size limit to the *.mp4 files I can sync to my iPod Touch via gtkpod? is there any other tools that you know of that I can sync videos to my iPod with?
for the past two days ive been trying to download the latest version of gtkpod so i can put films on my ipod but when i go on the website and i press download newer version of gtk pod it just comes up with a load of writing! i downloaded the old version of gtk pod from synaptic package manager but that does not allow me to put films on my ipod!!

I am trying to set up my iPod Touch with gtkpod. The iPod mounts just fine and the first time I open gtkpod it recognises there is an iPod and asks for a model number. Then I receive this error :
Extended info will not be used.

Ubuntu 10.04 recognizes my iPod Touch because when I connect it an icon pops up on the desktop and I can also play the files from rhythmbox. I installed gtkpod and tried to access the iPod but it doesn't see it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using 9.10 Karmic Koala Oct 2009 release. Gtkpod does not show my ipod touch, and I can not mount the ipod. I realise there were problems with the ipod touch syncing/mounting but gtkpod has the touch option, and I have all the files from synaptic for using an ipod touch. When I run gtkpod its just blank, no music files show up. If I click load ipod I get the error:

I have been working to access my iPhone from Ubuntu. I can upload music to it with Rhythmbox, and I can access it with Gtkpod as well (after a "ifuse /mnt/iphone").
I used handbrake to convert an avi movie to a m4v format (just used the default format for iPhone). However... I can't upload it. I tried to simply open it in Gtkpod (add file), and it appears in the list with the mp3, but then nothing...
When I click "Save changes", it is stuck. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to see what Gtkpod is chocking on? Otherwise I will have to look at file browser apps.
I started using gtkpod with my iPod not long ago, and I like it a lot.But I have one problem, the images in my photo libraries stretch to fit the screen, making them a lot more ugly than they should be.Is there any way to fix this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI found a script online to mount the iphone with gtkpod iPod manager but still could not mount the iPhone as it said certain files weren't in my media file. Anyway laptop was perfect last night when I closed down.
Started up today with the message "the disk drive for /media/iPod is not ready yet or not present" and gives me the options: continue to wait - which does Nothing, press s to skip mounting which you hear the drums and then crashes or m for manual recovery- not sure what to do when I get here.
I installed gtkpod via apt-get. When I plug my 4Gb iPod shuffle via USB, gtkpod does not open automatically. When I open it manually, the following error message comes up:I just would like to add/remove mp3's on my iPod and sync it via gtkpod.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noted in another post that gtkpod was suggested for audio book use. I had a look at the documentation but it did not give any clear indication of this.
Using iTunes it is possible to link all the tracks on 1 CD which makes for uninterupted listening and will also offer the facility to stop and re-start the book from where I left off. Is this available using gtkpod?
My laptop is purely a Linux setup. I am told that I would have to change the BIOS settings which is well beyond my capabilities. As I particularly wish to keep my system pure I need to find the best possible way to work with audio books rather than to capitulate to Microsoft or Apple.
I just installed gtkpod in order to access my ipod through fedora. The problem I face is that sometimes gtkpod detects the ipod and works fine. But sometimes it doesn't detect it at all. And in spite of clicking lots of times on Load iPod(s) button, it doesn't load the iPod. How can I get this working?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get an iPod nano 5th generation working with slackware-current, with no luck. Currently, I have upgraded to gtkpod 1.0.0 and libgpod 0.8.0. I've run iPod-read-sysinfo-extended successfully, which wrote the SysInfoExtended file in /<ipod_root>/iPod_Control/Device.
After those steps, gtkpod would copy the mp3's to the device, but would fail writing the database. So, I generated the HashInfo file from the firewire guid using the tool at [URL]. After that, gtkpod finishes writing the database to the device, and shows all the music which is present, but after ejecting the iPod, no music shows up.
I've been trying to get my ipod to work under floola, gtkpod or rythmbox.I'm currently running Crunchbang. Is there any other way I can add songs to my iPod?Do I need to reformat my iPod?Since I'm completely new to Linux.I'll read whatever needs to be read and will take suggestions of any kind regarding learning Unix and whatever else is out there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently switched back to Ubuntu and I eventually had to sync my new ipod. I've been getting this problem where every time I sync with either GTKpod or Rhythmbox my ipod music is acting weird. It shows new music that I've added but when i choose to play it skips to the next track that then skips to the next track, and so forth. Its as if my ipod is filled with songs that don't even last 0.0 seconds! But the songs completely play in Rhythmbox, so I don't think its a problem with the files themselves.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter finally being able to mount my iPod Touch (8gb, jailbroken on iOS 4.0) with iFuse, I can only sync using gtkpod. This a horrible music syncing application and deserves to be punched in the forehead. I was wondering how to get Banshee to recognise my iPod. I'm on 11.3.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBeen trying to get itunes going in unbuntu 11.04. Tried gtkpod and it kept crashing when trying to update database. Looked into itunes thru wine. I think I could load it in wine but all my mp3's are on a linux box - ext4. From what I understand, wine will look to a windows partition for the mp3's. I know windows cannot read ext4. All I need itunes for is to load and delete songs on a shuffle ipod. Don't need itunes store, etc so I don't care if that part works or not. Before I go to the trouble of itunes on wine: Is this assumption correct?

How to install Multimedia Codecs under Lenny with Gnome?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using THIS guide to install restricted multimedia codecs. I got to the part where I had to switch system packages to the Packman packages. It came up with a number of dependency errors. I then had a stupid moment and told it to ignore the dependencies and break the applications. Now Xine won't even start, and Amarok seems to have disappeared on my computer. Oh and I also got a bunch of weird dependency problems when I was trying to install some of the packages from Packman too as listed on the guide. I also told it to ignore them when it couldn't find the dependencies. I'm scared I fudged multimedia up so badly I would have to do a clean install to get it back. BTW, I'm running openSUSE 11.2. I don't know if there are other specifications that matter.
