When I plug-in my iPod it gets detected by gtkpod and all the files load fine. I am able to delete files, add photos. But I am not able to add new songs. I get the following errors:1. If I drag and drop files it says "Drag and drop failed"2. If I add files through the "Add files" button,it either says "The following track could not be processes (unknown filetype)"
View 1 RepliesIts a dell e510 with about a gig of ram. I'm struggling to get my ipod touch working with the gtkpod ipod manager. At this point my ipod shows on my desktop when i connect it via usb. I cannot set up the repository for it in gtkpod because i dont know the location its mounting to. if its mounting at all. so my question is. how can i tell where my ipod is being mounted? I dont have a clue what to look for in the terminal results for "df -a"

I just installed ubuntu on my computer that already had windows 7 on it so I could dual boot them. After installing ubuntu and playing around on it a little I went back onto windows. I then restarted my computer and now it won't startup. I get an error that says unknown filetype grub rescue<. I don't know what to do to get back into windows or ubuntu.

Using iTunes it is possible to link all the tracks on 1 CD which makes for uninterupted listening and will also offer the facility to stop and re-start the book from where I left off. Is this available using gtkpod?
My laptop is purely a Linux setup. I am told that I would have to change the BIOS settings which is well beyond my capabilities. As I particularly wish to keep my system pure I need to find the best possible way to work with audio books rather than to capitulate to Microsoft or Apple.
I just installed gtkpod in order to access my ipod through fedora. The problem I face is that sometimes gtkpod detects the ipod and works fine. But sometimes it doesn't detect it at all. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get an iPod nano 5th generation working with slackware-current, with no luck. Currently, I have upgraded to gtkpod 1.0.0 and libgpod 0.8.0. I've run iPod-read-sysinfo-extended successfully, which wrote the SysInfoExtended file in /<ipod_root>/iPod_Control/Device.
After those steps, gtkpod would copy the mp3's to the device, but would fail writing the database. So, I generated the HashInfo file from the firewire guid using the tool at [URL]. After that, gtkpod finishes writing the database to the device, and shows all the music which is present, but after ejecting the iPod, no music shows up.

I've been getting this problem where every time I sync with either GTKpod or Rhythmbox my ipod music is acting weird. It shows new music that I've added but when i choose to play it skips to the next track that then skips to the next track, and so forth. Its as if my ipod is filled with songs that don't even last 0.0 seconds! But the songs completely play in Rhythmbox, so I don't think its a problem with the files themselves.

Double clicking on that produced file truecrypt-6.3a-setup-ubuntu-x86. I assume that's the executable. When I try to run that, I get a "could not display ... unknown filetype" error. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I plan to run truecrypt under the easycrypt GUI.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am dual booting XP and Ubuntu 10.04, but in the future I will be getting a new machine and I will only be running Ubuntu and won't have access to iTunes. Because I have an iPod Touch, I have been trying to find workarounds for syncing everything that iTunes took care of in the past. One problem I have is managing movies. I have looked through various media players/iPod management tools (Amarok, Rhythmbox, gtkpod) and I am using Rhythmbox to sync my music and and attempting to use gtkpod to sync my movies.
gtkpod is able to sync songs (Tested with a few minute test clip) and short *.mp4 files (15mb I know for sure from test). I am unable, however, to get it to sync a movie (~700mb) I am able to drag it onto my iPod in gtkpod, but when I try to save the changes and write the files, it hangs at "Copying Tracks" at 0%. It eventually crashes during the couple times I have tried to wait it out. So this being my situation, my question is, is there a size limit to the *.mp4 files I can sync to my iPod Touch via gtkpod? is there any other tools that you know of that I can sync videos to my iPod with?
I get a bit lazy using cUrl, often letting downloads go without adding the proper extension to images and whatnot. Yes I know about the -O flag, but I'm the kind who likes to give my files unique names right off the bat (until they puzzle out a way to "stamp" files with originating URLs across platforms, Classic MacOS Web-browser style, curl -o is the way to go). So I was hoping someone could help me write a script (bash or python, doesn't matter which) that used the file command to look inside files in a single directory and then rename the ones it happened across that didn't have a 3- or 4-letter extension, appending the one that corresponded with the mime type. But this action only to be performed on files with no extension.
I know Linux and Unix don't bother much with extensions. I started home computing on a Mac IIcx -- that kind of intuition is beyond natural for me and very much appreciated. But I, and a few of my friends and family, alsose Windows where file extensions are an idiot-proof way, if nothing else good can be said about the two, to get file X to open in application Y and not Q, W or Z (or, worse for some, no application at all).I've seen a few scripts in different places, but they all seem to have the flaw of renaming files that already have an extension
I want to have my whole library in OGG because it's free and has a better sound quality. The thing is that i have an ipod nano 4th gen and I heard that you can't sync ogg files with an ipod. So, how can i get my music into my ipod without having two separate libraries (that would take too much space in my HDD)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Amarok 2.4 today and am attempting to use it to sync my music to my iPod Touch. .mp3 files transfer perfectly, but for some reason any .m4a file is being reassigned a .mp4 extension and being relegated to the 'Video' app on the iPod. I do realise that an .m4a is just .aac audio in an mp4 wrapper, why Amarok and/or the iPod is deciding to treat them like a video instead? It's doing it both to my own ffmpeg-encouded .m4as as well as unprotected .m4as from the iTunes Store (relics of my time on Windows). Anyone know what might be going on with this? Rhythm Box does not recognise the Ipod with the plug-in, I have tried Amarok, but each time I tried to open it, it just crashed, tried sending a bug report but that did not want to work. I have also tried Exaile with the Ipod plug-in but when you go to the device manager you can click on the Ipod but nothing happens. I have tried looking at the Exaile forums but this seems to be a problem for others as well. The Ipod mounts ok, now a bit stuck.

across this problem when the changes I was making (such as adding lyrics, cover art, etc) weren't being saved to either my computer or my iPod. I figured out that the problem was the there was no PC file location. When I tried to add my Music folder (all files are .ogg), it gave me an error saying that all the files were incompatible. Any information on how to fix this would be amazing.Note: I can still sync through Banshee, so it's not a immediate problem. However, I can't add lyrics since Banshee doesn't support that, so I would like to get this fixed.
