Wonder one of you good folks could help me figure out how to download and install (light-scribe and Lacie labeler) easily and correctly in Ubuntu 10.4. I have used and installed it in another Linux (Pclinuxos 2010.07).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently built a 64 bit AMD Phenom quad core desktop. I have installed Kubuntu 10.10. I have an HP DVD burner with Lightscribe capability. When I try to download and install the software using GDebi I get a message that states that it cannot install the 32 bit software on my 64 bit computer. I read the threads and none of them have worked " using the directions provided". Using the command line and force architecture I got an error message every time. Can anyone who has succeeded in doing this give me the commands in simple "newbie" English to I can use Lightscribe along with Lacie Lightscribe on my 64 bit computer?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dvd1040 lightscribe DVD/CD burner. All through 8.10-9.04 it worked flawlessly. I used DeVeDe to convert tons of stuff and it always burned no problem. Same with my data discs of .jpgs and audio cds. I used Brasero mostly, because there were never any problems.
All that changed with my upgrade to 9.10 Now, the same burner simply will not work with any program. It will read a CD fine and it recognizes blank media, but every time I try to burn something, it fails. I've gone through Brasero, K3B, Gonmebaker, Xfburn. Every one returns an error.
When I attempt to burn, eacj of these programs starts the process and I can hear the drive spinning. It will spin, stop, spin, stop...
I've noticed lots of people having problems with burning and 9.10 but I thought I would ask about specifics with my HP drive.
What is a Good Lightscribe Labeling Program for Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit? I installed LIGHTSCRIBE SIMPLE LABELER but it's the biggest piece of crap program, you can't even set the Font Size, all it allows you to do is set the Font. I'm not a Linux Expert so I need a program that is easy to install and does not require compiling or complex manual installation with multiple command line text commands (unless I can cut and paste). I'm still confused by the complex Linux directory structure I have no idea where or what my home directory is or how to get to it from a terminal window / command line prompt.

I was using this Lacie 750gb HD to backup files in Mac OS X, there is a 30gb FAT partition and the rest is HFS+.I recently read that using " hfsplus " from the depositories you can mount HFS+ rw, but ONLY if it is journaled. (how can check this?)
I imagine another option would be to back the disk up and repartition it as FAT and Ext4 or is that possible? what is the best way to do that?
If anyone has time to share any experiences or knowledge on this subject I would appreciate it a lot, I'm having a hard time finding much info about it.I will have to backup the data on this drive first, so I don' t wanna make any hasty choices.
Users of Lacie's 4L which is used to burn labels for your Lightscribe disks, are required to have the app run with sudo privileges, (the command being: gksudo 4L-gui). On an older version of an Ubuntu install, I had it set up so that it did this automatically, without it, (or me), being asked for a password. I thought it was something I added to the sudoers file, to give 4l-gui automatic authority, but I forgot how i did it.

Whenever I try to print a label using the LaCie Lightscribe Simple Labeler the program starts, I create the label but when I tell it to print I get an error message saying " Printing requires root privileges". I have tried starting the program with the icon, from a terminal using both "sudo" and "gksudo" and from a root terminal.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu 9.10 installed with 2.6.31-21-generic kernel and have recently bought a LaCie d2 network NAS to which I am connecting via a Conceptronic C54BRS4A router, but am having problems with connecting to the share drives.
The d2 software is version 1.0.8 and I have configured a share drive <4music>, and a user <myuser> assigned to a workgroup <workgroup> and with readwrite permissions for that drive.
The version of LaCie Network Assistant (LNA) for Linux available for download here url is just 1.1.0, but the CD accompanying the NAS actually contains LNA for linux version 1.4.1 (5). I have installed both versions and the version 1.1.0 does not even find the drives, let alone mount them, so I am using the 1.4.1 version which does seem to work.
On launching LNA 1.4.1 I am asked for password to mount the drive:
�Enter your password to perform administrative tasks. The application 'mount -t cifs '//192.168.0.102/Public' '/home/myuser/mount -lacie/192.168.0.102/Public' -0 user=myuser, pass=mypassword' lets you modify essential parts of your system
and both the Public and 4music drives are marked in green as Smb (Windows File Sharing) when connecting as registered user <myuser> with password <mypassword>
When I navigate to smb://d2.local/ I can connect fine to Public drive, but the problem comes when I try to connect to Share drive and I get dialogue box saying �Password required for share share on d2.local� and requiring me to input username, domain, password.
The user <myuser> on my linux box is the same as that configured for d2. The domain field autopopulates with the workgroup <workgroup> I have set up for that user on the d2, and I enter the appropriate password <mypassword>, but the connection is not authenticated.

When my LaCie BigDisk E+ USB/eSATA FW:1.1548 is plugged into the USB port, I get the following what is below (it fails). This occurs in Ubuntu also. I think it has something to do with the new kernels. I believe ehci_hcd used to be a module. Since it has been compiled into the kernel, the external USB hard disk does not work. I am compiling my own kernel now to see if that is the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed 9.10 and wish to use the nvidia-glx-173 driver as recommended by jockey. Using the jocky GUI just hangs at 100% cpu, a significant portion of which is the cdrom process; I've tried installing the package directly in aptitude and get the error:

Media Change: Please insert the disc labeled 'Ubuntu 9.10 _Karmic Koala_ - Release i386 (20091028.5)' in the drive '/cdrom/' and press [Enter]. The installation disc (standard x86 disk from shipit) doesn't satisfy it. How do I get aptitude to just download it from online repositories?
Using 64 bit 10.4 and have 2 problems.
The first was I couldn't get the amazonmp3 download tool to work.
It complained about missing/wrong libboost* libraries.
There may be a better way of fixing this, I have no idea, but what worked for me was this:
I had spare machine running 9.10 so I installed the amazonmp3 loader on it and did the getlibs to make it work.
Once done, I copied the /usr/lib32/libboost* files over to my 10.4 machine, ran getlibs /usr/bin/amazonmp3 and it went in clean. It now works : )
My second problem that I am working is that gdesklets does not start. Still looking at that.
I recently downloaded ubuntu 10.4 and have recently solved my network problem. I enjoy listening to music, and I want to download it... but how!!!!! I have a firefox browser and have tried to download mp3 files (usually off beemp3). Once I press download it immediately brings me to a new window or tab and just plays it for me. There is no download no matter what application I install for linux or firefox. Is it just linux that doesn't allow me to download mp3 files or is it something to do with firefox?

All the configuration and tests run fine, except..*The links on Getting Started page don't work.*Search doesn't work.*Even from the Vuze HD Network tab, I can click to download and nothing happens. View 1 Replies View RelatedThe problem I have is that when trying to convert the files to another format or open them with a video editing program I get messages such as "Invalid data found when processing input" I used a FireFox plug-in called "video downloadhelper" to save the video files to my local ubuntu PC and this saved them as *.wmv files. If I double click the file name then the Totem Mplayer opens up and plays the video OK. The one strange thing is that the file sizes seem to be quite small for what I would expect, for example, a 1 minute video clip is showing with a file size of 145 bytes (not kb or mb but bytes) but they do play OK with the Totem MPlayer.
I have tried converting them to AVI using both FFMpeg and WinFF and both give the same message about "Invalid data found when processing input". Also, if I copy the files to a windows PC and try to open them up with a video editing program such as Sony Vegas this also fails to recognise the files. Finally, if I try to play the files on a windows PC with VLC Player, or GOM Player or Windows Media Player none of them can play the files.
I've looked around and can't find a working tuner for Ubuntu, online ones don't work and the ones I've downloaded I can't seem to get to pick up a sound.

1. It takes a lot of time to start the download. Last night it did not even start to download even after 15 mins. But when i put the same torrent in utorrent in Win7 partition it started to download immediately.. can somebody point out what is going wrong?
2. do i need to keep the qBittorrent open all the time till it finishes.. Otherwise it is not downloading... But in my Win7, when i close it, it automatically docks itself to the task bar.. (hav been using Win for a long time.. thats why i am comparing it to Win.. )
