There is a piece of streaming music I want, when I open it, the song plays using totem browser plug in. Is there a way I can capture the song and keep it as a file (or put it on my mp3 player), preferably without downloading anything.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get Totem to play VCD's. There are many complaints about this not working, but since they're all really old and dealing with different problems, it's hard to tell if this is an issue with me, or with the totem package. When I put a VCD in the computer, I expect it to pop up, (as it does) and prompt me to open the CD with Totem (which it does). When Totem tries to play it, though, it throws this error:
Code: An error occurred. Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file.
Interestingly this is the same error I get when I try to play DVDs on a separate computer with the same ubuntu software. The CD plays, however. If I click ok, and go to:
Movie > Play Disk '<disk name>'
The problem is:
1) I want it to be automatic, without errors,
2) These VCD's have several tracks and after the first 30 second track, it stops. It won't play any other tracks.
I tried a few other pieces of software just to see if other things worked (as I'm looking for user friendly-ness, I doubt the others will be a final option):
VLC: (No apparent activity. Disk spins)
gxine: Autoplay input plugin 'VCD' failed: Check engine output for further details.
Mplayer: Error!: Failed to open vcd://2.
K3b seems to have no problem, but it's not really a media player...
My totem crashes after several seconds of playing x264 .mkv files. Plays everything else fine (and my HD content better than .vlc so I'm not interested in switching). In terminal, the only output I get is 'Aborted'.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI gotta say I know nothing about linux and how it works. I've always been a PC guy(I know, shame, shame). Anyway, I wanted to make my own media server, and for the most part, I seem to of succeed so far. I've learned a ton, but at the same time I'm so lost, and have more questions then answers, and hopefully I'll get some here.
Anyway, the conundrum that I've got is this. I've got my Server set up with Ubuntu 10.10(I think). Got a SAMBA filing system. And then I got Squeezebox to run music off my server. As I dont have an actual Squeezebox I needed to install SoftSqueeze to run the music from the Squeezebox Server address. I then found out that it works fine, but SoftSqueeze sucks when it comes to User Interface. I've tried looking around at other media players and forums about streaming and stuff, but its got me all confused, as I am new to this(going on 2 days now ).
My goal is to be able to stream music to all the users in the household, from the server to there PC. But to do this I'm very lost. I think that I can use a different media player to connect to my servers Squeezebox address... or do I need to get rid of Squeezebox entirely?
whenever I stream music to my Xbox 360, no matter what I use to stream it, it will stop halfway through and only start up again when the next songs begins to play. So far I've tested this on Twonky Media Server, uShare, and PS3 Media Server and all produce the same results. I'm running 9.10 and uShare at the moment.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHave any of the main music streaming sites (ex. Pandora, Rhapsody, Grooveshark, etc.) made it possible to stream audio without using flash, (other than via iPhone apps)? Have any of them made any strides with regard to implementing html5 functionality?
I know html5 will make more options available for streaming audio over the web, but I have not seen or used html5 for anything yet. The only method that I know of for streaming audio without flash, although I haven't tried it, is via html5 video on ...... This is certainly a suboptimal method for streaming music since the audio quality cannot be guaranteed and is likely mediocre. Nonetheless, I've heard that it works. Also, as a second unrelated question, are there any open source flash players that you guys have used to stream audio from these music sites? I tried a group of different players like Gnash about 6 months ago and failed to stream Pandora or Grooveshark.
Does anyone know of any software that would allow me to listen to music on my android phone that is stored on my computer? Most of the ones I have looked at involve having to buy the music, where as I already have a large music collection.

So the idea here is, I have connected it up in every possible way to my laptop through bluetooth. I have found a way to stream music playing on the phone through my laptop speakers. What I want to be able to do is to be able to stream music playing on my laptop (all sounds through the soundcard) via bluetooth (perhaps?) from my mobile phone speakers..
I'm currently running ubuntu 9.04. I'm able to mount data and MP3 audio CDs but I'm unable to mount and play regular audio CDs. When I try to mount it I get the following message:
Unable to mount Audio Disc Drive /dev/sr0 does not contain audio files.
Windows does not have any problems playing either the regular audio CDs or audio MP3 CDs.
I have an Ubuntu 10.04 desktop PC (desktop) that I access remotely, i.e. with no monitor and keyboard attached. I do this by making an ssh connection to "desktop" from my laptop (also running Ubuntu 10.04).
I have all my music stored on "desktop" and I want to play this remotely through the soundcard on "desktop" which is attached to a hi-fi amplifier, from my laptop.
I tried running, say, rhythmbox, on "desktop" through ssh X11 forwarding to my laptop but cannot play music - it says that the right codes are not installed although they are because I can use rhythmbox on "desktop" directly (attaching a monitor and keyboard to it).
I recently found that I can sync my music to my iPod without iTunes/Windows. I tried using Rhythmbox and it seemed to work. That was, until I tried playing the album I added. It just skips through the album.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a successful upgrade to lucid, everything was going GREAT (including FINALLY having surround output) until now all of the sudden music files won't play... When I double-click a file, Totem opens automatically, and it says it's playing,but there's no sound and the bar does not move across at the bottom. In VLC, the bar moves like it's playing, but there is still no sound. Doesn't work when I hover the cursor over a file, either. In previous versions of Ubuntu, a simple reboot would fix this, but that doesn't work with Lucid... Online streaming works fine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new notebook, an Asus N73JQ. This notebook has a special sound system called "Bang & Olufsen ICEpower". The first thing I did was to install Ubuntu 64-bit. After installing and rebooting I am certain that i heard the Ubuntu login sound but ten minutes later when i tried playing music with Spotify all sound was gone. The login sound now gone too. I have tried editing settings in System -> Preferences -> Sound, with no luck. The settings dialog lists two sound devices, "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)". Sound output device is set to the Internal Analog ** device. I have tried different profiles for this device but nothing seems to work. Does anyone here have the same notebook/sound system with a working sound configuration?

this problem is quiet enoying, so i hope that somebody can help me tracking down this problem and find a solution. When i open vlc or exaile and queue a list of tracks, after playing some hours, the sound hangs and in the music player repeats the same 1 second audio part like a hickup, in video programs like vlc also the film freezes.
i have the latest libraries of gstreamer from packman installed and i also tried updating the pulseaudio libraries from multimedia repo. but the problem is still the same
The only player that can play it is totem (I have tried vlc and mplayer without success), yet I would prefer to save it. Is there any way to do that without a screen capture program?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed fedora on my laptop and after update and everything else, I played an avi file by totem media player but it asked for Divx MPEG-4 Version 5 decoder and when I searched, it asked for GStreamer FFmpeg-based plug-ins to install. When I tried to install these plugins it pops out a menu that says All packages are already installed. This happens for mp4 and flv formats too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a free account with Ubuntu One account and I was thinking about getting the music streaming service. I was curious though, what do people think of their Ubuntu One music streaming. I'm having a hard time finding reviews and I've considered a couple other options including Audiogalaxy which streams my entire music collection on Ubuntu through wine (and I've heard works very well). It also has an iOS and Android app as well as web streaming. So as I see it the things Audiogalaxy is limited by are: you need to have your computer on all the time (whenever/wherever you want to stream) and it's on your local drive VS being safely stored in the Ubuntu One server.
I haven't tried setting up Audiogalaxy on my Ubuntu box yet. I'm still trying to decide. The other question is what about services like Amazon player and google music? Ubuntu One seems to be the most expensive.
I downloaded a movie using torrent in ubuntu 10.04. After completion when I played that movie in totem or VLC its showing use windows media player. How can I play the movie in ubuntu-linux.

Only after the song has been played completely I get message 'location not found'. Does that mean totem copies song into RAM so that it does not have to trouble hard disk for access during entire duration ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy PPC iMac G3, 600 MHz, 768 MB ram machine (blue box) machine has 16 MB video ram and 256 MB backside L2 cache. When I insert a music CD, it doesn't seem to recognize it. Nor does an icon appear on the screen indicating that I loaded a disk. When I insert a movie, Lucid waits a moment, spins the disk, then ejects it after about 60 sec. Data disks act similarly, but no ejection. Disk spins momentarily, no icon appears on desktop, disk does not eject, No further action.
