I use Gnome mplayer but it freeze random when playing videos and just show a black screen without sound and if i simply press backward or forward button to send it 10 sec forward or backward it will continue to play video until it freeze again.sometimes it takes seconds to freeze and sometimes half an hour or more.
View 3 RepliesI can't seem to find a multimedia player that works well for me. With VLC, the screen with freeze up and then update itself later to the correct time but it changes to lots of strange colors. With Mplayer, the video will freeze and then catch up later, like VLC does. With Totem, I can't seem to get the subtitles to work correctly. It replaces the subtitles with a font of it's own. I always used Media Player Classic on Windows and it worked really well. When I say "freeze up and catch up later" I mean that the video and subtitles will freeze, but the sound will keep going. The video and subtitles correct themselves a few seconds later.
1. Is there a way to make it so VLC doesn't freeze up and catch up later with strange colors?
2. A way to make VLC and Mplayer not freeze and catch up later?
3. Get Totem to display the correct subtitle font?
I have a Ubuntu 10.04 fresh installation on my HP laptop. Installation successful and boot OK. But the desktop randomly freeze. During freeze(about 15s each time), all programs are not responsive. Sometimes I can switch program by click, but program seems locked. How can I know which module cause the freeze?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use gnome-mplayer 1.0.0 and Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 to view videos Both read subtitles well from srt files. But both are not able to read {a6} command in the srt files.
NOTE:- {a6} command serves the purpose of putting the subtitles on top of the screen, making it possible for subbers to display lyrics/additional footnotes on top, while at the same time, having the dialogues to show in their usual position.
Is there are way to force either of them to read the special commands properly?
I am using Ubuntu 10.10. At some point gnome-mplayer (and gecko-player) have stopped working. Try open any audio or video file there is nothing (the progress bar just shows "stopped"). However, Smplayer is working flawlessly for both video and audio files so I am sure it is not a mplayer problem
I have delete the folder .conf/gnome-mplayer but nothing changes.

I'm just curious if anybody knows how to change the default settings in gnome-mplayer from it using video0 as the video input (which is my built-in webcam), to say video1 (which is my external usb tv tuner). There is no gui option for this.
My issue is not being able to use it for analog video, though it's not a huge deal because I figured out the same very thing for tvtime (video0 to video1). It'd just be another option.
Lubuntu 11.04 on laptop (PIII ATI Rage Mobility). Playing a WMV or MPEG file, system freezes when playback ends. I have not tried any other formats.
I looked at mplayer Preferences
In the Player tab, "Video Output" was blank - I set it to "x11"
This corrected the freeze problem, at least the first time that I tried it. However, it did not seem to persist through multiple plays of the MPEG file, whether or not accompanied by an mplayer quit and rerun or a reboot, even though I did not change the parameters. I tried setting vo=x11 in the etc/mplayer/config file, but that did not help. It is sporadic. It will work a few times with the MPEG file, then hang, for no apparent reason. One thing it does seem to do consistently is hang on the WMV file, regardless of the vo setting, and on both files, when vo is not specified (what I started with). This is a time-consuming task, with a reboot on every failure, and I have run out of ideas on what to try next. When it hangs on the MPEG file I noticed that the elapsed time ends up at 20 sec, even though the video total time is 16 sec. When it doesn't hang, the elpased time goes to 20 sec, then returns to 16 sec.

I have had it for a while and it has worked fine, until it suddenly stopped displaying menu scroll arrows (like for long bookmark menus in web browsers). I can still scroll, but in place of the arrows is a solid colored rectangle that clashes with my theme. I went searching and found my theme's arrow image files (see code below). I have no idea how these files are implemented into the theme display, so I don't know how to re-enable them. I tried reinstalling the theme, but it changed nothing. These arrows show up just fine in any other stock theme, and they were fine in this one too until they randomly disappeared.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 13 32-bit on a Samsung NC20 netbook (specifications here: [URL]. Everything works fine, with the exception of media playback via VLC and mplayer. The biggest problem is that the entire OS frequently locks up when exiting full-screen playback in either application, and occasionally locks-up when starting playback via mplayer. Video is also always on top of other windows, regardless of whether the application is configured to be always on top.
The lock-ups are severe enough to warrant powering off the machine, as CTRL+ALT+Fx does nothing. I suspect this is related to the machine's VIA CPU/graphics chipset - I've had problems with them before in other Linux distros, but playback was fine under F12 on the same machine. Because the video windows are always on top, I suspect there's a general issue affecting media playback - hopefully configuration related!
This should be a very elementary question. I have a URL like http://SERVERNAME/file.wmv. When I enter it in "Open Location" in gnome-mpLayer it connects to the server and plays the stream. But when I run

I think my usage of mplayer in the terminal is correct, since I can watch other URL's.It's only this specific one that doesn't work (I am not authorized to write the URL because they want it to be private.So my question is: Does anyone know why I get this loop? Or is it possible to see how mplayer is called by gnome-mplayer and what output messages it generates?I use gnome-mplayer 0.9.9.2 and mplayer 1.0rc4-4.4.5 on Ubuntu 10.10.
Today im experiencing many freezing issues with my office desktop running lucid amd64.
Every application i run, seem to randomly freeze and then crash.. i dont understand wy, yesterday the pc worked as usual.
I was using kernel .38, i tryed to switch back to .32, but nothing change;

I dont see any packages that can cause this error. The freezes seem to be related to the hard disk: if i try to copy/download large files, the freezes happen instantly; but i've tryed Smart test from disk utility, and GSmart from a live cd: the hard disk seem to be ok. Even memtest doesnt report any error.
I just installed openSUSE 11.2 KDE via LiveCD on my desktop computer and have been loving it. The problem is that it will randomly freeze and requires a restart. I've tried booting up in safe-mode, but it still does it. Also, when it does, the screen flickers and flashes in and out before it freezes. And before anyone asks, yes, I have my NVIDIA drivers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having trouble lately with firefox freezing. For awhile I couldn't figure out what was causing it as it seemed random. But I think I narrowed down the problem to the mplayer plugin. Whenever I go to a site that has streaming video, the mplayer plugin would start reading the stream, but then display "stopped". Now sometimes when it does this firefox would freeze, but sometimes it wouldn't freeze till I start mousing over my bookmark tabs, then it would freeze my entire desktop. I can move my mouse but not much else. I can do a ctrl-alt-backspace to reload the xserver. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, can some help me troubleshoot this. I've removed and then re-installed firefox and the myplayer plugin; deleted my .mozilla directory; changed profiles. Is there anything else I can do?

I thought I should share a solution to a freeze issue I was having. Fedora 11 was running well but then started to freeze randomly when it was sitting unused. This could happen multiple times per day. I would have to power off to get it to reboot. Firefox was always open at the time of freezes and I had recently loaded several programs to try and run wmv files....Xine, GStreamer. So, I unloaded the programs. I also went into Firefox options and removed Xine as the default program for opening different types of files. The freeze issue is now cured. I have no idea how this caused the freeze and I never did get wmvs to run but at least the freeze issue seems gone.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently notice that my Fedora 13 is randomly stop at boot. This is a fresh install less than a week and with all the updated kernel and software as of today. I could not get much information from /var/log/messages (only about 3 lines at the time it froze).
It froze straight after it finishes the boot sequence. I can see a mouse cursor but that's about it. The last init sequence I could see before going to X was "atd" (if that helps at all)
This install is on a single Seagate 1.5TB drive without any other drives attached to the system (I rule out if that's problem with the other hard drives)
on Gigabyte P35DS3 mobo on ICH9 port
the mobo has AHCI mode for the hard drive
I got some bad sector on the hard drive (40 sectors)
For some reason, it kept stopping when I cold boot. Once it stop and I press the reset button it normally works.
I found another forum mentioning it can be issue with the video driver. So I here's further information of my system code...
Unfortunately, I've encountered a disaster the likes of which I've never seen before:Yesterday, in slackware 13.1, while using firefox, the window would no longer move or resize, and I could no longer click on things in that window.While this happens, the icons in xfce4 panel no longer acknowledge that the mouse is rolling over them, so I can't launch terminal from a panel, etc.; however I am still able to right click on desktop and open terminal and other apps that way.Since it was high time to upgrade to 13.37, and since I was experiencing weirdness, I decided to do a clean install: I actually repartitioned my drive, and reformatted the partitions (all xfs, and after backing up my data, of course)...
I don't know if that's significant, or not. there seems to be some lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log about my logitech mouse.way too complicated to write by hand.I will log out and back on... sometimes that frees up other windows. Then I'll add the Xorg.0.log.

The last time the panel and Docky did this, I was using Rhythmbox and Google Chrome.
