Ubuntu Multimedia :: Enable Vsync In Ati At Startup Permanently?

Oct 16, 2010

Here's the problem.I've got an ati 4330 in a Dell 1464 laptop. I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bits. It didn't enable compiz by default, so I downloaded the proprietary drivers (fglrx) using synaptic. After that I got compiz working, but... I get this window tearing. I don't know how to explain it, it's something like this:This is a regular window with open source ati driver (0's are windows, ignore the dashes)

00000000000000000---------------00000000000000000
00000000000000000---------------00000000000000000
00000000000000000--------->----00000000000000000

[code]....

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Enable Vsync Without A Proprietary Driver?

Sep 1, 2011

I have Ubuntu 11.04 on a netbook, and I'm getting a lot of tearing on video playback--both online and offline. The graphics card is some generic intel card, and there doesn't seem to be a driver for it. So, is there a way to enable vsync without having a proprietary driver?

Ubuntu Networking :: Enable Wireless On Startup?

Oct 8, 2010

I have been having some problems with my wireless connection. I am having to start my computer 2 times in order for my wireless connection to work. The first time I start up, even after I enable wireless it wont connect. If I reboot immediately and enable wireless it will then connect. I would like to be able to fix this problem since it has become really annoying to me to have to boot my computer 2 times every time I turn it on. BTW Network manager shows auto-connect, however it also shows i month ago as to the last time the connections were used.

I have poked through the various network tools to see if there's a preference setting for this, and have not found one.

General :: Enable Startup Options On Bind On Fedora?

Jan 11, 2010

I've just configured a bind server for my home domain on Fedora 12. One thing that's buggering me is that Bind tries to do its lookups first with IPv6, which fails and then falls back to IPv4. This seems to me an unnecessary use of resources, so I'd like to turn this off. This is possible by using the option named -4, but there comes the part where. the Named start/stop script is defined in the /etc/rc.d/init.d dir, but how can I get Fedora to start this script with the named -4 option?

Debian Multimedia :: How To Permanently Set A Custom Resolution

Oct 23, 2015

I just installed Debian 8 (loving it so far) and everything its working right except for one thing: The monitor resolution!

I've got a LG 22 inch monitor and it supports up to 1360x768 but the display settings only shows 1024x768 as max resolution. Doing a little research i was able to get the desire resolution (1360x768) through the use of the tool "xrandr". The problem is that the resolution its not permanent and i need to invoke the xrandr script (i wrote a very basic "script" to set the resolution) on every restart or session logout and of course this is annoying. I've tried to use "crontab" to invoke the script on every restart but for some reason did not worked.

So, making more research i saw that apparently the correct way to set the resolution is by making use of "xorg.conf" but didn't quite get how to do....

Here's the xrandr script that i use:

Code: Select allOUTPUT=VGA1
MODE=1360x768
MODELINE=""1360x768"   84.75  1360 1432 1568 1776  768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsyn$

xrandr --newmode $MODELINE
xrandr --addmode $OUTPUT $MODE
xrandr --output $OUTPUT --mode $MODE

Fedora :: 15 Service Configuration App - Enable / Disable At Startup Setting Is Greyed Out

Jun 25, 2011

When installing Samba and Webmin I use the application "system-config-services" or (if it is easier to find for you that way) menu->Administration->Service management. In this application I can start the services I need (nmb, smb, webmin), but the enable/disable at startup setting is greyed out... Even when I start the application as root it still gives me no possibility to configure the services to start up on boot. This should be possible. It works this way in Fedora 13 and Fedora 14, so why not in Fedora 15?

Before reporting a bug, I would like to ask if other users here have the same problem (and -if possible- a solution)... In the mean tim I guess it is back to the old way of configurating services - sigh..

[edit] I tried to remove the [SOLVED] from the title, but the forum software does not seems to allow me to do that... I thought it was solved by installing xinetd, but I was happy a bit too early. I still have no answer for this problem.

Debian Multimedia :: Permanently Remove Gtk-3.0 Folder In Wheezy?

Sep 1, 2011

There is a folder in my home titled 'gtk-3.0,' which continues to reappear even after I have deleted it. The reappearance of the folder seems to occur after using lxappearance to change the themes. I will not be participating in the headaches of the switch from gtk2 to gtk3, just as I did not participate in the headaches of the switch from KDE 3 to 4. So the following are my questions;1. Is it possible to permanently delete the gtk-3.0 folder so that it can not ever reappear in my home? (And why is it appearing there anyway? Shouldn't it be hidden with a dot?)2. If I can not prevent this folder from appearing in my home, is there a setting I can use in Wheezy to block gtk3 libs and apps from installation? Presently, the only gtk3 lib or app shown by aptitude search is libcanberra-gtk3-0, but I can't remove it due to notification-daemon dependencies.3. If I switch from all gtk2 apps to all KDE apps will that solve the problem of gtk3 placing a completely unnecessary folder in my home?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Change Album Art In Rhythmbox / Enable This?

Jan 21, 2010

I'm trying to reorganize my files and organize my music on Rhythmbox, but I've run into a really annoying problem. The cover art for one song on a particular album isn't right. All the other songs in the album are displaying properly.

I have the album cover in the same folder that the music is in with the name "Cover.jpg".

I've tried about everything I can think of. I've tried renaming the image file, tried dragging it to the album art area in the player, and I've tried moving it to the Rhythmbox folder under the name "~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/covers/Artist Name - Album Name.jpg" (Of course inserting the correct album name and artist name exactly the way it is shown in Rhythmbox). It will change if I drag and drop it, but once I go back and play the song again, it will revert to the wrong cover art.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Enable VDPAU For NVidia 8400GS

Oct 8, 2010

I installed libvdpau and then I installed the nvidia vdpau software. I was following some steps from another post. When I run XBMC and hit 'O' I can see that the gcpu is still not doing any work (0 - 6%), the two computer cpus are doing all the work. They run at 30%'ish on 720p content and that renders smooth. No prob there. However, the cpus jump up to 50%+ (both cpus) on 1080p content and they can't keep the frame rate steady. It jumps around significantly so of course the movie stutters. No, the network is not the issue. Its completely wired gigabit end to end. Plus I'm running the video from the local hard drive and it doesn't change.

So... the solution is to get VDPAU working and so far I haven't found the right instructions.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Enable Your Hauppauge 1250 Tv Card

Dec 18, 2010

This is a writeup to help you enable your Hauppauge 1250 tv tuner card so you can use it with programs such as Mythtv. This will enable multiple cards. I am assuming your card isn't working "out of the box". You can check if it is recognized in the OS by following the instructions in "How to tell if the TV card is recognized" below.

In linux land, the 1250 is not just a 1250 but can be a variety of designations. I own older 1250's which are listed as 1270's. My newer cards are listed as 1255's. These cards usually don't work "out of the box" with linux. You have learn the ropes and enable them yourself. You have to have time on your hands and be a glutton for punishment when it comes to setting up linux but a stable, well running system is worth it. If you need everything done for you and want it "out of the box", you might as well ride back to Bill Gates' Boneless Chicken Ranch.

First off, here is an updated cardlist for the cx23885 driver that is used with the 1250 amongst other tuner cards:
