The new 270.18 driver: "Added a new X configuration option "3DVisionDisplayType" to specify the display type when NVIDIA 3D Vision is enabled with a non 3D Vision ready display." Does this mean 3D vision can be enabled now? How would one do this?
I am running Xubuntu Lucid 10.04 on a Sony Vaio. I recently dropped $100 on a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac, on the recommendation on the ubuntu wiki [URL].. that it would "work perfectly" in Skype. In Skype, it did nothing. No Audio, no video, light wouldn't even come on. Essentially a $100 dollar paperweight. I really think someone should correct this misleading information on the wiki.
I followed the kludge listed here [URL].. to get the video to work. By executing Skype with the shell script listed in the first post, I could get the video test to work, but no audio, and when I tried to call someone, when I turned on video, Skype quit suddenly. For the record, yes, I unmuted the device in the Sound Mixer in the top right corner.
Later on, I tested it with guvcview, and the cam worked perfectly in that program. It's only Skype that doesn't know what to do with it. When I execute Skype in Terminal I get the following output repeating over and over again:
Code: X Error, request 20, minor 0, error code 3 BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) X Error, request 15, minor 0, error code 3 BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) libv4l2: error setting pixformat: Input/output error libv4l2: error setting pixformat: Input/output error
I have a issue in that my 30gb creative zen is showing up fine as a media device, I can delete and add files. It is showing up as z 3.9gp partition. I formatted inside the Zen I formatted inside Windows Vista It showed 28,800ish megs free and it still showed up at a 3.9 gig partition There is no .trash folder How can I fix this? Qlix installed don't know if that matters.
I have just installed ubuntu 10.10 on a separate partition on my hardrive and when the screen starts up its in double vision and shaky. Have you had any such probs with ur installs. If so whats the cure. It clears after awhile and never had any probs with the old ubuntu OS.
I own a "Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Ultra Vision" web cam with a microphone. I have successfully installed it, I can get fedora to recognize it and even view video through all the web cam applications I've tried including vlc, cheese, and camstreem. It was automatically detected by Fedora and took no "tweaking" of my own. The problem I'm having is I don't know how to access the audio. When I go to the pulse audio applet or volume contol (mixer) I can see my quick cam as in input, and I can even watch the audio meter move and respond to sounds I am making. But I don't know how to tell any applications where to get sound from... my video source is /dev/video0, what is my audio source? Since my audio level meter moves when i say things or make sounds, I assume it is there and ready, I just don't know how to access it. I figure this should be pretty simple. I'd like to be able to record video/audio, or even just use the mic separately.
I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
I have Debian 6 installed. Is there a way for the web browsers (Iceweasel and Chromium) to recognize the multimedia plugins (gstreamer0.10) that were installed? about:plugins in the browser, references Gnash as the only plugin available.
I have been trying to use my Creative Zen Vision:M with OpenSuse for a while now. I can connect it fine and the system can see that it's there and everything like that and it even recharges the battery which is a great bonus. And while I can drag and drop folders with music files onto it, it won't update the playlist, in other words it knows there a files on the player but nothing else. So I usually have connect the Zen to my Windows machine drag them out of the player and drag the back in.
Anybody can point me the steps to successful install VAAPI under Ubuntu? Last week I tried several times diferent drivers, libs, packages and nothing work.
Actually I'm using Ubuntu Lucid under Inter C2D 3.0Ghz, with ATI Radeon HD-3870 graphics card.I already installed ATI Drivers (Catalyst) latest version (11).
What exactly I need to install? Catalysthacks [URL].. can solve my problems?
explain to me how to get sound through the internal speaker of my computer. Everything else works fine. IE, if I plug in a headset or boxes, they work fine.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) & recently added Ubuntu Studio to it. For quite some time, I'm trying to enable direct 3d acceleration on a virtual XP SP3 machine running over VMware Workststion 7.0.1.
As per VMware forums & many other sites, 3d hardware acceleration is supported for XP as guest provided that host Linux version is supported by the VMware product running that VM.
The forum also says that Ubuntu 9.10 is now supported by Workstation 7.0.1.
So: I have a supported version of host (Ubuntu 9.10) XPSP3 as guest. Latest version of VMware tools installed. Still I don't get hardware acceleration for the guest XP VM.
I'm trying to reorganize my files and organize my music on Rhythmbox, but I've run into a really annoying problem. The cover art for one song on a particular album isn't right. All the other songs in the album are displaying properly.
I have the album cover in the same folder that the music is in with the name "Cover.jpg".
I've tried about everything I can think of. I've tried renaming the image file, tried dragging it to the album art area in the player, and I've tried moving it to the Rhythmbox folder under the name "~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/covers/Artist Name - Album Name.jpg" (Of course inserting the correct album name and artist name exactly the way it is shown in Rhythmbox). It will change if I drag and drop it, but once I go back and play the song again, it will revert to the wrong cover art.
I have tried many ways to enable vdpau support in my machine but for no avail. A member here helped me very much but I couldn't manage to succeed. My system has Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, Nvidia 8500GT 512mb, Intel Core 2 duo. I have installed Nvidia driver version 195 currently available from their site. I tried compiling mplayer with vdpau support from various tutorials thread here around in Ubuntu forums.
Is there anyone in this forum with Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit with the same other system requirements as mine who have successfully managed to make the VDPAU work?
I am unable to play audio CDs. I have 2 CD drives and upon insertion of of a CD into the top drive, it notices the CD and asks what I want to do... Play with Kaffeine results in it opening, but then nothing happens. When I do the same thing with the CD in the bottom drive, it plays the first track of the CD but nothing else. Every time. With different CDs.
As some know, the CoverBling applet was introduced in 2.3.1 beta 1, but had to be removed for stability and well, legal issues too (Apple coverflow patent). If you still want to enjoy it as here : [URL] it can be compiled along with amarok, as it was just moved to "playground". Here we go :
1. download the amarok sources either through git clone or using 2.3.1 sources
I recently got a new ATI HD 4890 graphics card that supports sound over HDMI. It works in my other OS (Windows 7) but I cannot get it to work in Xubuntu. I read somewhere that by default the open source drivers have HDMI sound disabled. How do I turn it on? I even tried the Comprehensive Sound Problems Solutions Guide and still have no sound.
I installed libvdpau and then I installed the nvidia vdpau software. I was following some steps from another post. When I run XBMC and hit 'O' I can see that the gcpu is still not doing any work (0 - 6%), the two computer cpus are doing all the work. They run at 30%'ish on 720p content and that renders smooth. No prob there. However, the cpus jump up to 50%+ (both cpus) on 1080p content and they can't keep the frame rate steady. It jumps around significantly so of course the movie stutters. No, the network is not the issue. Its completely wired gigabit end to end. Plus I'm running the video from the local hard drive and it doesn't change.
So... the solution is to get VDPAU working and so far I haven't found the right instructions.
Here's the problem.I've got an ati 4330 in a Dell 1464 laptop. I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bits. It didn't enable compiz by default, so I downloaded the proprietary drivers (fglrx) using synaptic. After that I got compiz working, but... I get this window tearing. I don't know how to explain it, it's something like this:This is a regular window with open source ati driver (0's are windows, ignore the dashes)
This is a writeup to help you enable your Hauppauge 1250 tv tuner card so you can use it with programs such as Mythtv. This will enable multiple cards. I am assuming your card isn't working "out of the box". You can check if it is recognized in the OS by following the instructions in "How to tell if the TV card is recognized" below.
In linux land, the 1250 is not just a 1250 but can be a variety of designations. I own older 1250's which are listed as 1270's. My newer cards are listed as 1255's. These cards usually don't work "out of the box" with linux. You have learn the ropes and enable them yourself. You have to have time on your hands and be a glutton for punishment when it comes to setting up linux but a stable, well running system is worth it. If you need everything done for you and want it "out of the box", you might as well ride back to Bill Gates' Boneless Chicken Ranch.
First off, here is an updated cardlist for the cx23885 driver that is used with the 1250 amongst other tuner cards:
I have a Acer Aspire Revo R3600 running Ubuntu 10.10. Its a clean install, all I have done is update the NVidia drivers and ASLA. The PC connects to my AV Receiver via HDMI and I have stereo sound but no surround sound. If I go to System > Preferences > Sound and look under the hardware tab I only have "Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output" and no mention of surround sound or 5.1 etc. I assume this is part of the problem.
I've just finished my new build and installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.I have in it an MSI N8400GS D512D3H (NVidia Geforce 8400GS) which I thought would work for Ubuntu. After installing Ubuntu the visual effects are disabled, can't even get "Normal" settings in the Appearance dialogue. Updates have all been installed. Apt has been updated. "Hardware Drivers" screen draws a blank. No proprietary drivers listed at all. First time I've actually used a Graphics Card in an Ubuntu install.
I'm running to 11.04 and I can't seem to get the file to play sound. I've tried others and none seem to work. I've tried downloading all sorts of codecs but either not the right ones or just not doing something right...
I have Ubuntu 11.04 on a netbook, and I'm getting a lot of tearing on video playback--both online and offline. The graphics card is some generic intel card, and there doesn't seem to be a driver for it. So, is there a way to enable vsync without having a proprietary driver?
I have done a fresh install of ubuntu 11.04. Everything is fine, Ubuntu seemed to be using the opensource ati drivers upon first boot. Then prompted that I install the ati catalyst control center/drivers from additional drivers which I did.Again smooth sailing untill I decided to enable my HD tv (hdmi) as my secondary screen. This again worked fine cloned. But I could not enable extended. The option is available but requires xinerama to be enabled.
After restarting I could not login. Read up on this and others have has this issue with different cards. I proceeded to login to ubuntu (no effects) session and then swtiched off xinerama. (this did work in this session). The issue is getting it to work with unity. Logged back into unity now but I don't know how I can enable dual screens in extended mode. There are recomendations on other threads advising to use the open source drivers. But these don't work correctly. The card I am using is an ASUS EAH5570. This I believe has the radeon 5570 chip.
My OS is Ubuntu 9.10 64bit. I have been having problems with audio in several of my applications - all of which were fixed by removing Pulseaudio and installing Esound. After uninstalling pulseaudio, there is now no volume bar in the notification applet on my desktop panel.
In addition to this, my volume keys on my keyboard (Lenovo Y550 Ideapad) no longer work. Is there an application I can install that will put a volume bar back on my notification panel (using Esound)?
I also posted this as a question in launchpad, but wasn't sure if this might be a better place. Pretty new to Ubuntu, if you couldn't tell.I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and cheese/skype don't see the webcam built into my machine. It worked with Windows 7 that came with the computer, and in 9.04. I'm using a Asus 1005PE.

My webcam works. It works in Cheese and apparently the person I connect with on skype can see my feed. They claim their webcam works fine, but I can't get their feed: instead, I just get a white box. When I try to test my own webcam, I get a similar white box. I think there's something wrong with the way skype is configured on my laptop, but I can't figure it out.
I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on an acer laptop with an acer crystal eye webcam. I installed skype by downloading the binary directly from the website.
