Apr 30, 2010Am running Ubuntu 9.10 with Skype 2.1. Incoming video comes in as a small window, with no capability of resizing. I don't see a way to control the size.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Control Of Embbeded Video Size On Netbook?
Feb 3, 2011i have an hp 110 mini running 10.10 laptop (not netbook. i prefer the laptop desktop). i use firefox as my default browser. i find that i must always scroll and center web pages with embedded video (e.g. videos), and even then, i may not see the entire video frame (off the page top and bottom)
i know i can "open up" the usable area of firefox with add-ons (but haven't done it yet). are there any other ways, either through ubuntu screen settings, firefox settings, or flash settings, to shrink or adjust the default video frame size on the page? or is this simply one of the limitations of a netbook i will have to deal with?
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Find The Keycodes From Remote Control Input?
Sep 11, 2010I've got an Emprex 3009URF remote control which I'm using to run XBMC and whilst it works fine for the most part there are a couple of things that I can do with a keyboard/mouse that I'm unable to do with the remote, for instance "right clicking" with the mouse that brings up a context menu, that is totally inaccessible from the remote.
Some things I was able to fix by editing .xsessionrc as instructed by another post elsewhere on the tubes, in the format of:
xmodmap -display :0 -e keycode 127 = space
however I don't know how to find the keycode and I don't know how to map that to a right click event.

Jan 14, 2010I was using skype to make video calls from my windows machine to my home to contact my parents...who use another windows machine..without any problems for the last one month.
I switched to ubuntu just yesterday and installed skype..
Talking over to them was a pain...the line was full of disturbances and the
video was only one way though I recieved calls and could see them they could not see me

Apr 16, 2011I have a macbook 2.1 and successfully installedubuntu 10.04 with no problems other than the headphone jac doesn't work and the iSight i had to follow instructions to make it work..however, I cannot use it in skype. It works with cheese and ekiga, but most of the people I chat with are on skype. The driver on skype says "built-in iSight (v4l2) whereas the skype says "built-in iSight (/dev/video0) when I go into the gstreamer-properties, for video it is selected as V4L2 and in the pipeline it reads (v4l2src device="/dev/video0")
When I click test it all works fine, its just that skype doesn't work with the camera. shows I have one, I click test in skype settings and the screen stays black and the green light showing its on turns on....and when I'm in a call i try to make it work and it flashes the green light and doesnt work at all... anyone know a solution or haing the same problem?

Feb 24, 2010I have just installed 9.10 64bit Karmic Koala on a Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E.
Everything seems to be working fine out of the box...
I have my camera WORKING. I have tested it through VLC and the video is visible. I have installed Skype, and after setting up the source of the mic and video, SOUND works. Microphone from NX-6000 records sound, I can talk to someone on Skype with no problems.
The only issue i have is that in Skype settings, when I click on the TEST button in the VIDEO menu, the camera blinks, but the screen stays black. When I initiate a conversation, and enable my video, all I see is a white box in the corner, and the same thing shows up on the screen of the person I am speaking with. The sound however works flawlessly.

Mar 20, 2011I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on ASPIRE 5315 (intel celeron)Installed SKYPE BETA 2.1.0.8.1.I have external webcam which works with CHEESE ( I could see myself and takepictures).However when I open SKYPE onle telephone (voice) call are available. I Do not have the option for video calls. I do not have/see a tool bar or a side bar so I cannot make any change or test the video. I tried to delete and download SKYPE again and id did not work.What can I do ?If you post an answer please provide step by step since I am not familiar with ubuntu.

Apr 8, 2011I'm running 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 on a Macbook 3,1 and using my computer's built in iSight. Up until recently, before making the switch to Skype Beta 2.2, I was having no problems using Skype's video chat feature. However, now I am only able to get video working if I open a terminal window and type in:
"LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype"
Does anyone know of a way to get Skype functioning normally again? The launchers from my menu/panel no longer load the Skype that can use video, and when I tried to change the launch command to what what I use in terminal, it keeps telling me that "there was an error creating the child process for this terminal."

Sep 11, 2010When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. Mar 21, 2010I have one laptop connected to my tv. It has all the videos on it. ther laptop(actually a netbook) that I have set up to do light browsing on. Both are running ubuntu 9.10. I would to be able to remotely control vlc running on the laptop connected to the tv from the netbook. I have been searching for a while and have found hints that this is possible, but everything either refers to streaming from one machine to another or doesn't give enough examples to figure it out. I have tried enabling the http interface, but I can't access this from another computer.

Surely, this file doesn't need 2 GB just for 1:45 min/sec, right? Even at high def? How do I reduce this file size down to like a manageable number, say, 20 miB?

I want to half the size of the video while retaining the same relative quality.My main goal is to half the filesize of the video, but to do that and keep the same relative quality I will have to also make the resolution smaller.I can't seem to find a way to do this.I would preferer to use ffmpeg, but any solution would be good at this point. I would really like to be able to do this from the command line, but if there is a gui program that will also give me the command line it uses, that's great too.Does any one know of a way to half the file size of a video while maintaining the same relative quality?

I have tried installing modified/updated libv4l from [URL] and manually extracting the 32-bit maverick libv4l into /usr/lib32, with no luck. Skype keeps showing the picture upside down. Also the V4l Control Panel seems not to affect the picture in Skype. The camera uses the uvcvideo driver.

Feb 13, 2011I just bought an Asus K52J a couple of days. I of course got down right away to installing Ubuntu 10.10. Everything works fine except for a couple of problems with Skype.
In the past I already had the problem with Skype video not working while Cairo dock was running. I found a solution which consisted in changing the command line and making a custom launcher for Skype alone on my desktop. The command line was
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype Now, on this new laptop I have a new problem.....the webcam image is upside down! For this too I found a custom command line for skype to run properly.
export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=3 && LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype My problem is combining the two commands in one line so that Skype will run properly and this would thus solve my problem. Seeing that I am running Cairo dock as well i need to solve the incompatibility issue and also the inverted video in Skype.
I tried just copying and pasting them but it only solves the incompatibility with Cairo dock, the image in the meantime, remains upside down!

Feb 16, 2011I'm not sure this is the cause, but after I changed the properties of gstreamer, by following a fix on VLC freezing during video playback, I cannot control my desktop anymore.Luckily I can still switch windows thanks to docky. Unfortunately I cannot change the tab in the gstreamer-properties so I can reset my change. I changed the video from default to X11.How can I edit it manually from the command line?

Jun 11, 2010I am running ubuntu 10.04 with the fglrx driver installed with apt-get. I have an ATI Radeon HD AGP with 512MB of video ram. My bios window size is 64MB. The Xorg.0.log file shows that 512MB is recognized. I also tried checking the /proc/mtrr file and it shows two values one I believe is my ram size which looks to be correct at 1.5GB the other is 512MB which I think is my video ram size, but when I do an lspci -v the video ram size shows 256MB. I am trying to run Doom 3 and it only allows me to use 256MB of memory.

Jun 18, 2010i have some issues running twinview through my laptop and an additional monitor. i currently have the nvidia settings such that the monitor is the primary screen. however, whenever i click full screen in videos or another application, it maximizes in my laptop screen. also - when i maximize videos videos, the screen fills up, but the actual video size doesn't tend to increase (it doesn't stretch to fit). is this an adobe problem? ubuntu 10.04, nvidia driver v195, dell latitude d630 laptop.

Mar 22, 2010I just upgrade to F12 from F10 and having problem with Skype mic audio. it was working well with F10 before.
I have try to plug in a mic for internal sound card and using external USB headse, both sources could not capture my mic audio. I try to use Gnome Volume preference to select the source and it makes no different. I also noticed the output volume is low on USB headset too
Just get it working on playing with Gnome Volume preference. I find that on headset input and output audio, I have to crank it up to 100% range to get it working. Volume control seems to be useful from 80-100% Problem solved, hope pulseaudio would improve the volume control

Nov 4, 2010I recently got a real fancy unidirectional microphone, but when I go and use it, something strange happens. The mic is a mono mic, but when I record something, it appears to think it's stereo. Instead of having the same thing on both channels, it puts it all in the left channel, and silence on the right channel.
I tried fiddling with alsamixer. In capture (F4), adjusting the "Capture" device has an effect. However, it doesn't do anything useful. Lowering the right channel to zero does nothing, lowering the left channel to zero creates silence, and disabling the right channel creates silence.
In my System>Preferences>Sound (or pavucontrol, or what-have-you), there are "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Duplex" options there, but no "Analog Mono Input" or "Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" options (the latter being ideal).
Something interesting, though, if I do this:

arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 1 -vv -V mono /dev/null
it works correctly and outputs on both channels. But if I do

arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 2 -vv -V stereo /dev/null
then it's back to the same behavior. The VU meter on the second command shows the left channel going up and down as I make noise, but the right one always at zero.
The machine does have a crap internal mic built in to the screen bezel. If I do either of the above commands, they both work correctly. The stereo VU shows the same activity for both channels.
The machine is a Eee 1015PED, which has Intel integrated sound. Something probably insignificant is that the mic has a 1/4 inch mono plug, and to get it to plug into the Eee, I needed to get a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adapter. The mic's 1/4 plug is mono (duh) and therefore two-conductor, but the adapter I got is stereo, or three conductor (L, R, GND). I don't know if this is tripping something in hardware to tell it it's stereo or something.
I tried the mic on my desktop, which has a SB Audigy 4 (the non-pro flavor) and that has the "Analog Mono Input" function, so that works fine. Is there some way to turn this stereo input into mono input?
