View 1 RepliesI need to play or preferably convert (i.e. to MP3) old SNG files, which contain voice records. From what I could find, it's basically a MIDI created by synthetiser. I think it was recorded by some ancient VLC player. I failed so far to play it on anything I could download.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have tried to play mp3 files with sox play.
The result I get is:
play FAIL formats: no handler for file extension `mp3'
I have installed all libsox packages I could find, including libsox-fmt-mp3 and libmad0.
sox -h though, gives me:
AUDIO FILE FORMATS: 8svx aif aifc aiff aiffc al amb amr-nb amr-wb anb au avi avr awb cdda cdr cvs cvsd cvu dat dvms f32 f4 f64 f8 ffmpeg flac fssd gsm gsrt hcom htk ima ircam la lpc lpc10 lu m4a m4b maud mp4 mpg nist ogg prc raw s1 s16 s2 s24 s3 s32 s4 s8 sb sds sf sl sln smp snd sndfile sndr sndt sou sox sph sw txw u1 u16 u2 u24 u3 u32 u4 u8 ub ul uw vms voc vorbis vox wav wavpcm wmv wv wve xa
PLAYLIST FORMATS: m3u pls
AUDIO DEVICE DRIVERS: alsa ao oss ossdsp pulseaudio
(no mp3 mentioned there).
The reason I try to play mp3 files with sox is that I wanted to play a playlist with different formats and feed it to ices2 through a pipe, ie :
sox Musik/storlista.pls -t raw - | ices2 ices-pcm.xml sox
FAIL formats: no handler for file extension `mp3'

I'm an excited newcomer in ubuntu and i'm also an animator. and i have problem playing all streaming video from this particular website (the 11 second club), probably they use quicktime plugin or something. In addition, we can play the stream frame by frame so we can check the animation more details on poses.
could you guys help me out with this...? this website is an important learning centre for me, and definitely for many animators out there who use ubuntu.
here's an example:

When I attempt to use a Firefox Addon like Simple Timer, the audio alarm will not work. Instead, I get an error message Could not play the audio file! NS_ERROR_FAILURE I can get the same sounds to play in Google Chrome, but I prefer Firefox.

With windows xp firefox or chrome everything is easy, no problem. ubuntu and firefox with "windows media player plugin" nothing works.I tried vlc, totem, mplayer ... no way.
Sometimes for web TV one is offered a menu where the video is divided into sub chapters where you can jump right to this part of the video by clicking in a chapter menu (very similar to playing a DVD). Well, this does not work for me. Clicking a sub chapter only set the video to play from start, and sliding the bar only freezes the player with a white screen. I'm running 10.04 (64b), Firefox 3.6.9, with the latest Totem-plugin.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy audio is working on my recent koala install. System wav files play without a problem.
However, when I open a terminal to play my own wav files I get an error. (I encountered this problem merely by trying to setup an incoming mail notification with CheckGmail....)
The command: aplay /home/saskms/Music/test.wav
The error: aplay: test_wavefile:807: can't play WAVE-file format 0x0002 which is not PCM or FLOAT encoded
I think I have installed all the necessary gstreamer options. I am guessing that maybe I just need to re-rip the WAV file into a different format. I also tried doing searches on the error, but yielded no results.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was having a terrible time playing some WMV files and I finally got it working this way:
Based on this: [URL]
Step 1 Add the Medibuntu repositories to sources
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
by adding this at the bottom of the file then saving
Code:
#medibuntu repositories
deb [URL] lucid free non-free
Step 2 Update for that change to take effect
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Step 3 Install the w32codecs [you won't find it if Medibuntu repositories are not in place]
Code:
sudo apt-get install w32codecs
Step 4 Install Kplayer [so far the only player I can get to work for WMV files]
Code:
sudo apt-get install kplayer
I'm new to this. The VIDEO_TS folder has a bunch of VOB files sequentially names along with BUP and IFO files. But when I start up VLC and choose 'Open Dir' and point to the VIDEO_TS file, it plays a short trailer of the movie and does not move onto the rest of the VOB files. Is there a was to play them sequentially? or is the only way to select the files in the order in which to play them and then play them all?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer it's a Pentium 4, 2,26 GHz, 1 GB RAM, and 2 40 GB HDD... I ran update manager and installed all the updates. I installed all the Ubuntu restricted extras and I can play all the formats but .flv; there's sound but the all I can see are lines and static.I ran the tests and see if my video card was properly working and all seemed OK. Also every time I play a ..... video or from another site that uses flash the computer totally crashes. I installed Chromium and see if the problem had to do with Firefox but chromium also totally crashes. after rebooting I tried playing another Internet video, but all I could get was a blank screen with sound.
Another issue I had was that right after the installation I could not set the screen resolution higher than 800x600, I don't know if the problem with the flash and the screen resolution are related =X
