View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm an excited newcomer in ubuntu and i'm also an animator. and i have problem playing all streaming video from this particular website (the 11 second club), probably they use quicktime plugin or something. In addition, we can play the stream frame by frame so we can check the animation more details on poses.
could you guys help me out with this...? this website is an important learning centre for me, and definitely for many animators out there who use ubuntu.
here's an example:

Sometimes for web TV one is offered a menu where the video is divided into sub chapters where you can jump right to this part of the video by clicking in a chapter menu (very similar to playing a DVD). Well, this does not work for me. Clicking a sub chapter only set the video to play from start, and sliding the bar only freezes the player with a white screen. I'm running 10.04 (64b), Firefox 3.6.9, with the latest Totem-plugin.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter many days of trying to tweak Ubuntu 9.10 desktop i386. This subject will focus on my dvd drive. ...Here is what I have done, but I'm not sure what I did or still need to do, or to do different. ...
Basically the problem is, I can't play store bought DVDs, but I can play my copies of them.
When using MDPlayer that I added to Ubuntu, I can play the copies of my store bought DVDs, but not the originals. However, when using Ubuntu 9.10's movie player, it wont do anything and I'll have to do a force quit to close it.
I learned that this may because there is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution, as I'm sure you already knew.
...Yet, Most people have worked around these issues.
I came across the Medibuntu site: [url]
Running the Terminal, I added the bash command that adds Medibuntu's repositiry to Ubuntu. It also adds Medibuntu's GPG key to the keyring.
(The sudo wget - etc etc etc --quiet update)
Then I jumped down to the... "This command should be run in the Terminal, after adding the repository:" ...And did that. (sudo sed -e 's/ etc etc etc /medibuntu.list)
i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAnyone else struggling to play iplayer video? I've got the proprietary Flash plugin, which means it's probably not this "SWF Authentication" thing that there's been so much talk about.
I've rebooted, tried all sorts of tinkering, it loads the applet (I can see that Flash is loading OK because other things work, and right clicking on the applet gives the Flash menu)
However, clicking the play button does nothing.

I have installed all libsox packages I could find, including libsox-fmt-mp3 and libmad0.
sox -h though, gives me:

(no mp3 mentioned there).
The reason I try to play mp3 files with sox is that I wanted to play a playlist with different formats and feed it to ices2 through a pipe, ie :

Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor. Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Firefox has stopped playing video, including from ...... It just shows a big image of the "play" button in the space. Moreover, in some other news sites with .flv videos it simply does not play. All I can see is the play/pause button and the volume control flickering. My understanding is that this happened after the latest system update. I would also like to know if there is a download helper extension for Chrome equivalent to the one available for Firefox that enables download of video files.

I keep running into a problem with KDE crashing when using the search bar in Firefox.
For some unknown reason, something gets set in the Firefox profile that will cause KDE to crash when a few chars are typed into the search bar in Firefox's upper right corner. When this situation occurs, I can log on to Gnome, and use the search bar with no problem. This is something related to KDE only.
The temporary solution is to delete my Firefox profile. This fixes the problem initially, but returns after a few weeks of web browsing. Deleting my browser profile every two weeks is NOT much fun!
Firefox level is 3.6.13. KDE is 4.4.4. Suse is 11.3. I do NOT have Moonlight installed.
Thus far I have had no luck. I have installed Namoroka from the ppa repo and got flash working nicely but java is another matter. I followed instructions to install the jre manually but no matter what I do it will not display in FF's "aboutlugins". I have to ask if Namoroka is using the default folder: /home/username/.mozilla/plugins/? Because that is where I created the symlink to the java plugin.

A week ago I used Update Manager to update Xubuntu from 8 to 10.04. Update manager completed properly. However audio stopped working in firefox but video worked ok. Using other audio players like banshee worked fine. Worse, Firefox ran slow as molasses. I tried re-installing (using Synaptic Package Manager) the Adobe Flash Plug-in in Firefox. No change. I tried re-installing Firefox. No change. Yesterday I used update manager and got about 40 updates, including updates to firefox and linux. After these updates, Firefox sped up nicely but now the video and audio are both blocked.
Update: subsequently I abandoned Xubuntu and installed Ubuntu 10.10. Adobe Flash is properly installed and audio works fine in the audio player and video player but not in Firefox. Tried installing Chromium and Midori and each browser has same problem - no audio. My sound icon is properly set to output connector -> analogue output. The version of firefox is 3.8, and that version works fine in Windows.
