View 2 RepliesI have several .MTS (avchd) files that I'm trying to play in xine but I get the common "there is no demuxer available to handle ..." How can I tell what I"m missing and where do I find it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, audio and video doesn't sync while playing MP4 video files. I have tried many MP4 files to confirm this is not specific file related issue. I have tried both VLC and Mplayer. Sound track doesn't sync with video track.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I try playing any TTA files in Clementine, Rhythmbox or Movie Player all I hear is white noise. It plays normally in VLC and SMPlayer, but I want to be able to play TTA files in Clementine. I've been able to do so before I recently reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10 on my computer. I've tried installing ttaenc-3.4.1 from source, and nothing changed. I also tried installing ffmpeg-0.6.1 from source, but that didn't help either.

Format: TTA1
Bitrate: 0 kbps
Rate: 44100 Hz
Channels: 2
Selected codec: fftta
I'm using latest version of ubuntu 10.04.
Sometimes when i play a media file i get this error :
Code:
"An error occurred : Failed to connect stream: Too large"
I have all the codecs installed.None of the player totem, vlc plays them.
I've tried to search through this forum a couple of times to understand this problem, but no posts to date (that I've found) quite address it. Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference. There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? (Yes, I've tried using mmcheck. Does no good. This is openSUSE 11.3 for x86_64. Amarok Version 2.3.0 Using KDE 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 2"
I have mentioned this in another thread elsewhere but perhaps this is a better location. In Opensuse 11.3 I was able to play files on my NAS drive from within smplayer over samba shares or ftp. I would simply use dolphin to browse to the file on the nas drive (either through samba or ftp protocol), double click the .avi file and it would load smplayer and begin playing immediately.
In 11.4 I have samba set up using the same smb.conf file However, if I double click the .avi file it copies the entire contents to the local computer before launching smplayer. If I use smplayer's file selector and navigate to the file on the samba share I get the message "you can only select local files" This is a different behaviour to that from 11.3 However, using the ftp protocol from within dolphin smplayer launches immediately and begins playing. smplayer is launched using the shortcut command
Code:
smplayer %U
Does anybody have any suggestions on a workaround or how to correct? Using kaffeine I have no problems. Double click the file on the nas drive and kaffeine launches immediately and begins playing.
I need to play or preferably convert (i.e. to MP3) old SNG files, which contain voice records. From what I could find, it's basically a MIDI created by synthetiser. I think it was recorded by some ancient VLC player. I failed so far to play it on anything I could download.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have tried to play mp3 files with sox play.
The result I get is:
play FAIL formats: no handler for file extension `mp3'
I have installed all libsox packages I could find, including libsox-fmt-mp3 and libmad0.
sox -h though, gives me:

(no mp3 mentioned there).
The reason I try to play mp3 files with sox is that I wanted to play a playlist with different formats and feed it to ices2 through a pipe, ie :
sox Musik/storlista.pls -t raw - | ices2 ices-pcm.xml sox

Recently pulled the plug on Windows 7 and changed completely to Linux. Don't regret it for a second and I will now stay Linux for the long haul. Just a couple of issues have emerged though....
1) All dvd's I have tried so far, do not play in Movie Player. Error message was:Location not found. (dvd file name does appear in play list though it does not play....I have let it search for plug ins and updates but the return was: Plug in not found (though it does not say what plug in was not found....which I hoped it might then I might know what it was...).
2) Vodafone MBB K3570-Z doesn't want to play ball either. Noticed no install message, not even as a recognised usb device.Looked at similar posts and tried editing, deleting and retrying. Ensured the user, password, APN, were all properly edited, but not a peep out of it.Also selected mobile broadband in network settings. But no connection at all. Also tried the usbmodeswitch too.
I'm able to open DVD data discs, it's just playing DVD movies which is the problem now.
I've followed the official ubuntu guide on this and it hasn't worked. Even with all the numerous posts regarding the matter I'm still unable to find a fix.
Thus I'm posting here. If I can't get this to work I'm fooking back off to Windows because I've wasted far too many hours as it is.
I'm running P4 2.4 Ghz, NEC 2500a DVD-RW drive. I've also got two other DVD drives, a Pioneer slot drive which I get the exact same problem and another one which I haven't tested yet as it appears to be a software problem.
Code:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am unable to play audio CDs. I have 2 CD drives and upon insertion of of a CD into the top drive, it notices the CD and asks what I want to do... Play with Kaffeine results in it opening, but then nothing happens. When I do the same thing with the CD in the bottom drive, it plays the first track of the CD but nothing else. Every time. With different CDs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently trying to play a VC-1 encoded MKV-file under Linux (Ubuntu 10 / latest Mint, both are affected), but VLC reports that it isn't able to decode WVC-1. VLC is able to play this file under Fedora 13, OS X and Windows, while both mplayer and ffplay are able to play this movie under Ubuntu 10 and Linux Mint.
I made two log files that where previously posted on the VLC forum, where I was told that it looks like there is a problem with the avcodec. I have basic experience with compiling stuff, but my knowledge of C++ and the linux internals is close to null. Which packages do I need to build from source in order recreate avcodec and its dpendendcies?
Link to error log running Ubuntu 10 and latest "Linux Mint" (reinstalled multiple times):[url]
Link to log running Fedora13 (works, but I prefer debian based linux):[url]
And last but not least a link to my thread on the VLC board:[url]
I just upgraded from the last LTS version to 10.04 Lucid Linux and Flash just totally sucks. I keep trying to watch videos at [URL] and the videos play for about 1 minutes then it locks up and gives me this error: "Unable to play the video specified:
rtmp:1935//streaming.ted.com/talks/dynamic/MichaelPollan_2007-high"I have followed all of suggestions in the "Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto" by ubuntu-freak and I'm still having major problems with Flash videos.
I regularly use XBMC on my htpc. Everything seems to work just fine except that I cannot watch DVDs with it. It just never detects a DVD. If I insert a DVD with XBMC running, it just lets me browse the files. If I select the video files it plays some of them (depending on the DVD apparently). If I click on the play button it says that no disk is detected. There is nothing that I can see in the log file and seems relevant. I really don't know what to do. The computer is an HP z555. I just modified it by adding more ram and I changed the video card for an NVIDIA 8400GS. It is running Ubuntu Lucid and XBMC 9.11 installed from the PPA repository. The dvds play well with totem, vlc and mplayer
View 4 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd support Ubuntu and buy the Fluendo add-on from the app store. (I am running a fresh install of 10.10.) Whenever I put in a commercial DVD I get an "an error has occurred" message. How do I go about fixing this? I was under the impression that the ubuntu restricted extras would break fluendo, which is why I did not install them. Although during the install I did tell it to download the extra software there.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy audio is working on my recent koala install. System wav files play without a problem.
However, when I open a terminal to play my own wav files I get an error. (I encountered this problem merely by trying to setup an incoming mail notification with CheckGmail....)
The command: aplay /home/saskms/Music/test.wav
The error: aplay: test_wavefile:807: can't play WAVE-file format 0x0002 which is not PCM or FLOAT encoded
I think I have installed all the necessary gstreamer options. I am guessing that maybe I just need to re-rip the WAV file into a different format. I also tried doing searches on the error, but yielded no results.
