Ubuntu Multimedia :: Boot With Intel Graphics Without Monitor Switched On?

May 12, 2010

i'm trying since ubuntu karmic to set up a xorg.conf for a special purpose. I've a htpc connected to my tv. Intel GMA 4500, DVI->HDMI-cable connected, Lucid Lynx installed. When the machine boots with the TV powered on, everything is perfect. xrandr reports all valid modes on output "DP2". Without the TV powerd on, Lucid starts in the low graphics mode, with the funny zenity-message. So far, i managed to disable all useless outputs (VGA1, HDMI1, DP1, HDMI2), leaving DP2 enabled. I managed this by assigning outputs to monitors and adding Option "Ignore" "True" to the corresponding monitor-sections. My only remaining problem is, that the intel-driver reports no connected monitor on output DP2. The TV is connected, but shut off. Has anyone got a hint to tell the driver to ignore the presence of a monitor?

Ubuntu :: Monitor Unknown Intel Graphics

Jan 27, 2011

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Dell Latitude D430 that I use at work. I have it on my desk docked going to a Dell LCD Monitor. When I go into the monitor set up it says Unknown for the monitor and Laptop for the actual laptop display. Also, I have very low resolutions for the "Unknown" monitor.

I am trying to resolved this issue so that I have better resolutions on the external monitor and then I can try to extend the desktop between 2 screens.

I found something online about adding the intel PPA and I did that, but now what. There is no xorg.conf that I can find for 10.10.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Unable To Use Dual Monitor With Intel Hd Graphics

Nov 26, 2010

I've installed CentOS 5.5 64 bit on a Dell Latitude e6410. This model only contains Intel HD Graphics, not the extra Nvidia card you could also buy in addition. The getinfo output can be found here:[URL] Initially X11 did not work at all (blank screen), but using hints from other posts in this forum I was able to fix this by editing the file xorg.conf using the vesa driver, although I still do not get the native screen resolution of 1200x800 (I alwas get 1152x768).

Now I want to add an external monitor (Samsung Monitor connected via DVI, screen resolution 1680x1050). Unfortunately as soon as I try to configure the dual head mode using the system-config-display tool after restart of the X server there will be the the blank screen again. I tried various drivers with no luck.Has anyone succeeded setting up dual head on an Intel HD Graphics machine? I understand that this hardware is quite new and and would be easier to set up with more recent distros, but I would like to stick to CentOS, but cannot wait for CentOS 6.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel I7 HD Graphics Gives Black Screen Sometimes On Boot Kernel 2.6.37 Rc7

Dec 30, 2010

Just a little background I have a sony vaio VPCZ119X laptop and have been struggling to get all components working under linux especially the intel graphics. I saw that once I upgraded to the latest available kernel release which currently is 2.6.37 rc7. The intel graphics is working, but sometimes when I boot I get a blank/black screen but seems to be lit up. All other functions seem working so for example I am able to login etc just that I dont see anything on the screen.

I have tried the following so far to identify the issue or isolate it:

- Switching to the console screens has no effect, still the black / blank screen.

- Restarting the system does not always immediately get the screen working, sometimes it takes a couple of reboots before the screen is available

- I have a switchable graphics with nVidia I never get this problem when I use the nvidia driver

- I have tried closing the lid etc as suggested in the below post without any change in output, will try further as there are other options available as well The "Black Screen" on Boot I see one difference between both the Xorg log files but I am not able to reason out why this happens hence I will just supply the files here and try not to theorize.

Xorg.0.log - This was the log output when I got the X display working Xorg.o.log.old - This was the log output when the X display was black/blank Also to highlight that I am using the latest kernel release that is still being tested I guess so maybe it is also a bug in the kernel?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Record Monitor Streams With Pulseaudio And Intel 82801H

Mar 20, 2011

I'm getting silence when trying to record output from pulseaudio on my laptop. This wasn't happening the last time I tried, which, I admit, was almost certainly a previous ubuntu release (I'm on 10.10).

My sound card is an Intel ICH8-family device, supported by the snd_hda_intel module. PulseAudio calls it "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".

I'm doing various things that I find on the onlines, a few main ideas:

1. parec
I use:

Code:
parec -d alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor
When I search for 'monitor' in $(pactl list), the only thing listed is alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor.
I use sox to convert the output to wav:
Code:
sox -t raw -r 44k -e signed-integer -L b 16 -c 2 $RAWFILE $WAVFILE

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Graphics Card Not Recognized - Monitor Native Resolution Not Available

May 8, 2011

I actually do have a GeForce4 MX 460 in this pc. I have a 7950gt in a different pc. Oops. I guess the MX 460 cant do 1600x1200 on the dvi output but somehow it can do it on the vga output? I guess I could just use a vga connection instead of the dvi connection.

The problem I'm having is that my LCD monitor (acer AL2021) can't be used at it's native resolution of 1600x1200. This is probably because my GeForce 7950gt graphics card is not being recognized. Xorg seems to think my card is a GeForce4 M 460. (It's not, really!) I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

Here's what I've been doing for the last few hours:

Ubuntu :: Odd Resolution - Monitor After Switched It To TV Mode Then Back To PC Mode

Feb 8, 2011

When I first installed ubuntu 10.10, the display was for some reason tinted green and shifted a few inches to the right. After experimenting with the resolution preferences, I eventually got it to a large resolution (1280x720 ... or something like that) yet is was quite blurry. I found out that the problem was with my monitor after I switched it to TV mode, then back to PC mode. It became perfectly clear! All I had to do then was adjust the screen positioning by shifting it left a bit.

Even though I have made the resolution I figured out to be default, whenever I turn the PC on after shutting down, it goes back to the "green-and-to-the-side" mode. :/ Ain't really a big problem, until I tried to fiddle with the resolution preferences s'more.

Somehow, I have set it to be twice as wide of the maximum my monitor can display, went back to being green tinted for some reason, and is completely shifted left (yet the right side is still visible) This means that I cannot see what is going on the left side, and cannot adjust the resolution preferences, nor can I click blindly cuz the border is only around my visible side of the screen. Now it is stuck like this.

I've researched many hours and eventually found the terminal command for the resolution preferences. it popped up on the visible side. Although it was to no avail cuz I HAVE TRIED EVERY SETTING AND OPTION and absolutely nothing changed. I assume a system restore would simply revert it back to the previous satisfactory settings, but the thing is I want to FIX it. I am new to this terminal stuff, so I want to learn it and all that. To put it simply, here's what I want:

Learn how to manually adjust resolution without depending on a simple dialog box. Make the satisfactory resolution default and consistent through turning it on and off. Link that could teach me the essential commands, all this googling is stressful. D:

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Triple Monitor Setup: X Crashes When Moving To The Second Graphics Card (third Monitor)

Oct 22, 2010

This is a triple-monitor setup with two video cards, where the mouse pointer gets "stuck" if it tries to cross from one video card to the next one. It worked correctly in openSUSE 11.2 and doesn't work in openSUSE 11.3 with the same xorg.conf. This is a 64-bit openSUSE 11.3 with xorg 7.5-11.3 (the openSUSE prepackaged version). I've already tried NVidia drivers 256.53-16.1 (the openSUSE NVidia repository version) and 260.19.12 (the latest off of the NVidia website).

This is the same xorg.conf that I used successfully in openSUSE 11.2. I tried a new automatically generated xorg.conf using nvidia-settings and it had the same problem. This forum won't let me upload the relevant files, but here: [URL] is a tar-ball with my xorg.conf, Xorg.*.log, /var/log/messages, and the NVidia debugging output.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Is Not In Full Potential In Lucid Since Switched From Windows

Jul 11, 2010

I have had sound issues with Ubuntu since I switched from Windows. I must say I am enjoying using Linux but, am consistently frustrated with my sound issues. Infortunately, I still can't "fix" my sound to use it to its full potential. The steps I took to get to my current setup are shown in this past thread. [URL] I will sum up behavior and specs:

1. I have a 4.1 speaker sound system that includes, headphone port, mic input, and some usb game ports.

2. I have pulse audio all updated but I have it set to audio duplex otherwise the connection terminates. Meaning, I can't set it to 4.1 output. If I do set it to 4.1 the sound is uneven (amplitude) out of sync and poppy.

3. When I have it set to duplex, I hear decent sound except when I play audio or video files on vlc or rythmbox. Internet vidoe sounds and startup sounds are fine.

4. The sound card for the system is recognized as CS46xx. I have a Hercules Game Theater XP sound card. This is consistent with the alsa.org listing.

Ubuntu :: Low Graphics Mode - Intel 845G

Jul 30, 2010

Have a reasonably old HP D510 running onboard Intel 845G graphics, which has worked fine to date using Suse 10/11.x x86 and also have tried various Ubuntu breeds on it before, as well. Have just installed Kubuntu 10.04, and am having issues that irregularly, and apparently randomly, screen goes black and I get a message saying "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode".

I OK this and get a messages asking me what I would like to do:
1 Run in low graphic for this session
2 Reconfigure graphic
3 Troubleshoot
4 Exit to console
5 Restart x

Basically, none of these work. If I click 2, there are a number of choices which don't work, can only cancel. Basically the only fix is a reboot, and it will again work for a 'random period of time'. Have never had this issue previously, so it is obviously something that has been introduced with 10.04? Briefly installed Ubuntu 10.04 prior to Kubuntu, and think I had the same prob.
