Aug 3, 2010I know that you can have a nice control center if you have nvidia or ati drivers installed. Is there such a thing for intel graphics (Intel GMA or HD graphics)?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.10 - ATI Graphics Installed And Catalyst Control Center
Feb 25, 2011I run Ubuntu 10.10 on a dual monitor set up with one direct to my monitor and one to my TV through HDMI. I run the screens in clone mode with the TV showing exactly what is on my monitor(same resolutions/refresh rates). My problem is that I have problems with software that involves any sort of 3d rendering/openGL. I have ATI drivers installed and catalyst control center. I first noticed the problem just after install where I am unable to see any of the screensavers that have GL in the title. My screen just goes black even in preview mode.
I started downloading a few games. All my 2d games work, but when I installed Oolite all I got was a black screen. So I uninstalled all my ATi software and Oolite worked just fine without the ATI drivers. The screen savers still refuse to work and I am not sure where to begin to diagnose the problem. I also notice alot of tearing when watching any sort of videos on my TV screen. I haven't found any way of creating a "theater mode" where by I get fullscreen video with full V synch on one monitor whilst windowed on the other monitor.

Aug 18, 2010! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel� 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...
I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

Jan 2, 2011I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

Mar 26, 2011Today is my sort of third day with the OS and I'm still loving it. I've been able to get the hang of quite a few things in Maverick but there is one thing that I really need help with.Back in Win7, I had the very same situation and after a week of messing around I was able to get it working; it was sheer luck, but hey, who cares?
I'm running an ASUS M4A785-M motherboard with an integrated ATI 4200 video card and using a 32" Toshiba TV with HDMI video and sound, which Ubuntu was kind enough to download the proper drivers for all on its own; Win7 didn't. Problem is, the best resolution I can use is 1920x1080, but at that point some of the text looks just too small, so I use the 1776x1000 resolution instead. Still, the grand majority of websites don't fill the browser. I have to manually zoom in each time so they can look properly. I know that after a week of tinkering in Win7 I got it working just fine without the need to zoom in on pages. I can't remember for the life of me how I did it and I had accidentally formatted the entire HDD once and all those settings got lost.Lower resolutions make it worse too. On some of them, the actual computer window won't even fill the TV unless I change certain settings, and then it still looks horrible because everything gets stretched out sideways and gets squashed and even if the PC screen doesn't fill the whole tv, it overcasts itself in the middle; as if I was using a much smaller monitor and it was overcasting.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Catalyst Control Center Not Saving Changes?
Mar 15, 2010Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is not saving the changes I make. I saw a couple of thread about this that had links to instructions on how to install CCC, but it still doesn't work for me.
I start CCC with 'sudo amdcccle' and the GUI appears. I can use it to make changes; however, it never saves them. After clicking OK, it instructs me to restart the system. After a reboot all the setting are back to the default.
I have installed CCC three different ways:
1) sudo aptitude install --without-recommends fglrx-amdcccle | tee fglrx-amdcccle.log
2) sudo envyng -t
3) sudo ./ati-driver-installer-10-2-x86.x86_64.run
In all cases, the fglrx driver works, and 'sudo amdcccle' brings up the GUI, but the changes are gone after a reboot.
Hmm, at the moment, when I click "Apply" and the "Do you want to keep these settings?" 15 second countdown box appears, no changes occur even temporarily.
I've tried doing a fresh install of 9.04, then upgraded to 9.10 (I have problems with the 9.10 command line installer not installing grub) among other things.

May 30, 2011I am currently using Xubuntu version 11.04 and I am working with a Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. I am using the proprietary FGLRX drivers from AMD.
I have a small problem. I have two monitors, and in order to tell the computer to use the extra monitor for extra desk space, I have to get into the Administrative CCC. However, when I click on the administrative CCC, nothing happens. It's strange considering that the regular CCC works just fine.

Nov 12, 2010I have a personal laptop and a work laptop. personal is running ubuntu 10.4(which im planning upgrade to 10.10 soon) and Win-Xp on work laptop. I would like to run ubuntu on work machine, but i need to use vmware vsphere client regularly as half my work is related to it.
Is there an alternative available for vmware vsphere client? How can i have ubuntu on work laptop and have access to VMs via the control center? Is running Windows-XP on ubuntu via vitual box a resolution? If yes, I have 3GB of RAM on my work laptop, is that enough?
OpenSUSE Install :: Is There Tool Can Use In Control Center?
Mar 19, 2011I installed OpenSuse 11.4 Gnome on my Toshiba laptop. A couple of things i noticed while trying the live CD first is that the file manager recognized my NTFS partitions and after I installed I expected it to do the same. Also, while installing I thought I selected a secure logon with username & password. After installation it boots right into the desktop GUI. I haven't had a lot of time playing with OpenSuse yet and I have browsed through some threads and I couldn't find a way to configure a secure logon and do I have to mount the Windows partitions in the Command Line or is there a tool I can use in the control center?

Jan 4, 2011I've got 10.10 up and running like a champ. Haven't done much in it, but all was well. After a little while I went in to turn the cool effects on, and it told me I needed a driver for my ATI card so I said go for it. It ended up putting Catalyst Control Center in for me. That's all fine and dandy except on the windows side I can get into an area that allows me to adjust overscan and turn it off (its a slider for under and overscan).
This version wont seem to let me do that, so now I'm stuck with either NOT a full screen, or no ability to have fun graphic effects. While your here, how can I change the data files which I think ubuntu refers to as your /home folder (documents pictures etc) to a different location? Windows7 and Ubuntu need to see the files in the same places so I don't have to have two working sets of files.

Jan 27, 2011I was just wondering if there are any applications that would serve as a webcam manager in Ubuntu. I am running 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell XPS M1530. Under Windows, I was able to modify camera settings (resolution, image, special effects) from a dedicated panel any time the camera was on. I don't need a lot of flashy features, but it would be nice if I could lower the resolution so that Skype runs more smoothly.

Most things run fine, however the "Akonadi Control Center" does not appear in my KDE "System Settings". Akonadi itself seems to run, at least Contact uses it for the addresses.
I searched for all "akonadi" packages, but I didn't find ones which I do not have installed.
OpenSUSE :: Yast2 Control Center Broken After Update?
Mar 4, 2010About a week ago, I installed all the updates that popped up. I didn't actually look at what was being installed.

General :: KDE - Control Center And Configure Desktop Missing
Apr 6, 2011Yesterday, after I first installed Slackware 13.1 I had no trouble replacing the default wallpaper with a simple gradient. Very easy. Today, (after re-formatting the drive and re-installing the entire system because I messed around with a script and it wouldn't boot) I can't change it. I spent about an hour messing around with menus and settings trying to figure out how I did it, and eventually, as a last resort, turned to the help file. It tells me to choose Configure Desktop from pop-up menu when right-click on the background.
But Configure Desktop doesn't appear in the pop-up menu. (At least, not anymore it doesn't.) The help file also says to use the Control Center, but I can't find any trace of that either. I haven't the slightest idea why these are missing. Since I re-installed everything onto a freshly re-formatted drive, anything I played around with before shouldn't have any effect on the new installation. The problem is there both when I login as root and user. I really don't want to try re-installing everything again.
The only changes I've made to the system since the re-install is to edit /etc/inittab to replace the 3 in id:3:initdefault: with a 4, so I get a graphical login, and to edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 to place an & at the end of the dhcpcd request which, according to the instructions I was following should put it in the background to speed up boot-time slightly. I haven't (knowingly) played around with anything that should affect KDE, except changing settings from within the KDE menus. I know it's probably going to be something very simple, and possibly obvious in retrospect, but I'm new to Linux and have no idea what I'm doing here.

I've seen a pc case to use but I dont know if the remote control for it can work under ubuntu or any other distro. Sep 1, 2011I just did a fresh install of natty, installed a few programs along with the ati catalyst control center.
I am having serious login issues, here is what I do:
I am at the login screen right from start-up, type in username and passward and hit enter, screen goes blank, it appears I am logging in, ubuntu plays a sound and puts me back at the login screen. I do not get an "Authentication Failed" error like I would expect. Unable to login as myself or as root.
However, I am able to login if I select the "safe mode," I am not able to login under the normal mode or the ubuntu classic modes.
I suspect that this issue has to do with the ati proprietary drivers, after playing with the settings for a while in safe mode I am now able to login to the normal natty mode without any apparent issues.
Here is what I changed in ati catalyst control center to boot into natty mode:
I disabled the Xinerama and Tear Free options.
Under the 3D settings, I selected the "override application setting" for all the 3D settings I could.
I believe I still have some display issues as I am unable to drag windows from one display to another, my mouse is able to move just fine across displays though.
I also found that enabling Xinerama prevented me from logging into the ubuntu and ubuntu classic modes, but I was able to login to the ubuntu with no effects mode.
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Change The Graphics Card In 10.04 Media Center?
Jan 6, 2011I got it into my head to change the graphics card in my Ubuntu 10.04 media center. I removed my old ATI card and installed a new ASUS ENGT 430. I tried to uninstall the ATI drivers and associated software prior to this but obviously I didn't get it all. When I boot into X it takes me in under low graphics mode. I've tried rebuilding my xorg.conf. I've installed the driver from the ASUS site and nothing.
I decided to swap in my old ATI card and obviously I've not cleared all the ATI artifacts as the low graphics mode that machine first booted into was at the high resolution that I was running previously. I uninstalled all Nvidia software but now I'm not even able to get the old ATI software to work. Jockey sees the drivers after I install them through the Software Center but they're not really working. XBMC won't start for GL reasons.
What do I need to purge all graphics drivers and install the nVidia driver? I've got a feeling if I started from scratch I could get it to work but I seriously don't want to reinstall everything. I've worked hard to get my XBMC config just so and I don't want to lose everything
Fedora :: Fc12 - Initializing Catalyst Control Center - Libatiadlxx.so ?
Aug 1, 2010I finally upgraded from my old Passive Nvidia 6600GT video card to a passive ATI 5750. Using Fedora Core 12, 2.6.32.16-141.fc12.i686, On boot the native driver worked but the card got hot as it was not de-clocking into idle mode like it does under windows 7.
So I reluctantly installed the closed source ATI driver from RPM Fusion
I also added nomodeset to the kernel start-up
Previously I was using the native standard built in Nvidia driver.
The new ATI driver seems to be running with correct entry in Xorg.conf and now it runs very cool at idle just like under windows :-
However the control center will not start...There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition.
Also some commands using aticonfig return this error...
These libs are on the system in /usr/lib/catalyst
I am also getting video tearing in movies with mplayer and VLC. I have tried the options...
Which added a vsync entry in xorg.conf, but No luck...I think I need to get catalyst control center (amdcccle) running which I has a sync on refresh option radio box that may solve my video issue.
I can live with these errors but the video / movie tearing is a show stopper.
I am getting headache over this trying to find a solution to these issues. ATI and Linux still do not mix well
Fedora :: Control Center Update - Tweak Tool Or New Program?
Jul 23, 2011Today I updated using yum there was a update to something called control- center (2 updates for this) It said it was for changing fonts backgrounds, themes etc... is this just a update for systems settings or tweak tool or a new program? I know I cant change themes in System Settings so what is this...Anyone download this today? I cant find a new application.

Nov 18, 2010I'm having trouble with Yast, I noticed today that I can't open the control centre from the desktop (along with install/remove software) when opening from the command line I get. the following output:

Yast2 control centre opens, but none of the options load when selected. I have tried updating everything through Zypper which didn't work. (aka zypper ref/up etc). Then I tried removing yast and installing it again. When I did this (and downloaded the Yast control centre again the above errors, reappeared.
