Ubuntu Multimedia :: ALC268 Realtek Soundcard On 9.10
Mar 2, 2010
Till around three hours back, sound was there. After restarting the computer, there was no sound. I checked the sound pref. Nothing was mute. The sound icon showed:
I have an MSI S420 with a realtek alc883 onboard. I upgraded from ubutu 8.04 to 10.4 recently, The sound worked in 8.04 although the mic did't work and the same thing in 8.10 (i went through all upgrades) it stopped working at all in 9.04 onwards.
If i did Lspci -v it did say the name of my card, ( I unmuted all in alsamixer and got the codecs but even a test soud won't work) I also dowloaded a driver from Realtek itself, that didn't work.
Then I edited alsabace.conf some more. I tried every one that could possily be it at [URL] including all that said MSI.
I then tried Lordraidens comprehensive sound guide from step 1 to step 5, I used the module-assistant and istalled a driver that was called "hda-realtek-codec" or so. It was the only appropriate one on the list.
I also run into someoe with thesame problem. [URL]
i think ill give up and use the 8.10 that is still on a other partition
I updated my Slackware installation to 13.37 today. I was running current (a few weeks old).
I recently bought a new set of 2.1 speakers, so i thought of re-running alsaconf and then alsamixer.
Thats when i got this strange error:
Code:
These are the contents of my /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
Code:
Here is the output of lspci and dmesg:
lspci:
Code:
dmesg:
Code:
Ok...The funny thing is, the sound still works! (Alsamixer shows all the 6 channels of my previous 5.1 speaker system).
Additional Info:
*Am using a customized kernel - version 2.6.39-rc5. **It does not work in the default Kernel 2.6.37.6, not even in 2.6.38. *** It works in kernel version 2.6.35.x and 2.6.36.x. (I checked!)
I've just installed 11.3 on my laptop (Nexoc E619). My soundcard was set-up too, as an Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) (YAST Information) It is listed however, under System-Settings>Multimedia as HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) which I believe to be correct, after having looked at some older threads. I can actually play music etc. but with the small problem, that the repeat 'skips' some ms at, what it looks like to me, random points. Even playing the testing sound in YaST gives me a different skip-pattern each time. [URL]...
An application I am trying to get going on 9.10 takes over my soundcard whenever I run it. I hear a small pop from the speakers and then no application can play sound after that.
The program is: springlobby My soundcard is: Onboard sound (Asus M4N68T-M motherboard)
I have posted on the application's forum but it seems most of the posters are developers and the advice goes a bit over my head.
Quote: old versions of SL uses SDL audio to access the sound card, make sure SDL audio is set to use alsa+dmix or pulseaudio, if it's set to OSS or alsa with direct card access, it will lock the sound card
if it's a recent version, everything i said applies instead for openal.I have removed pulseaudio but this is not the cause of my problem as it was the same before removal.full thread is here: http:[url]....
I just installed the Yamaha WF192XG soundcard into my computer, connected the MIDI keyboard (Evolution MK-7) and I got the "...is running in low-graphics mode". Rebooted, still got the message.. Entered the nvidia-x-config thing (or whatever the command is) and rebooted. Still got the same message
I have a laptop and a desktop computer. The thing is, I would like to see movies on the laptop from the stationarys hard drive to watch movies and also listen to music (Spotify) from speakers that are connected to the desktop but I don't really know how to solve it.
I know it's possible to make a network sound card on the staionary but I can't get it to work. I hav'e followed this guide but then I can't find the network sound card on the laptop. [url]
I was, untill very recently, using ubuntu 10.10, and have just upgraded. In Ubuntu 10.10, I was easily able to record sound from my sound card in audacity. For whatever reason, since upgrading I have been unable to do so. I have no problem recording sound from my laptop's microphone, but can't seem to find an option to record from the sound card. I believe it's the same version of Audacity, so all I can assume is that it's an Ubuntu issue.
Previously I have had no problems with sound. After the installation of gnome-network-admin package, my soundcard was no longer autodetected on startup. I have since removed the package but the problem remains. After boot-up in 'Sound Preferences' > 'Hardware' there is nothing shown. In > 'Output' it shows 'Dummy Output' . I can regain the sound by using
I have a SteelSeries Siberia USB soundcard. I'd like to get pulseaudio to automatically recognize it and switch to it when I plug it in.
Currently I have to go alsamixer in terminal, select the device and turn it up (It's always at zero when I plug it in). When I do this I can't control the volume with the buttons on my laptop, i have to either control the volume in the media player or move it up and down in alsamixer.
I'm having a rather peculiar problem with sound in Ubuntu 10.04. Specifically, every time I reboot I run through a cycle of sorts:
A). Sound is working fine. Reboot
B). No sound. "aplay -l" returns "no card found". Additionally, the hibernate and suspend buttons are missing from the shutdown menu and restart acts as log out, immediately returning me to the log in screen (sudo reboot in console works). I try to fix the problem by the following commands:
C). After rebooting sound works normally again and I get the following:
Code:
aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: VT1828S Analog [VT1828S Analog] Subdevices: 2/2
[code]...
I have "linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic" installed. I have been experiencing problems with audio since I bought this M/B, but with 9.10 things were stable and with my previous 10.04 installation bearable. Now, however, I practically can't work. I have to run the aforementioned routine every time I reboot. Additionally, I don't if it is relevant, but the problems started after I installed the audio drivers in Windows (another royal mess, but at least now it's stable and it works)

I own an external usb soundcard: Creative Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1. After some tweaking around Multimedia Settings, (K)Ubuntu 9.10 successfully detected the card. I can now use it.
However, setting the sound level in KMixer does not work at all - KMixer now only contains a Microphone channel. Using hotkeys, I can still turn volume from 0 to 100%, but that has no effect on the volume produced by the soundcard. The sound card comes with a sound joggle, but turning it left or right has no effect whatsoever on the volume level.
Is there a way to solve either of these issues? p.s. Also, the card came with a Windows app and driver cd.
I'm not too experienced on Ubuntu, but I'm trying to get a Delta 1010LT working on Ubuntu 10.04 minimal install (no gnome, only console).I can see the board detected using lspci, but looking at dmesg output I get the following:
Code:
[ 31.116668] ICE1712 0000:05:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21 [ 31.116709] ice1712: Using board model M Audio Delta 1010LT [ 31.135560] invalid CS8427 signature 0x0: let me try again...
[code].....
if a change the model to delta1010 the driver is loaded correctly, but I assume there are major differences between the two boards so I don't get audio out, even if I unmute everything using alsamixer.Motherboard is an Intel D510MO with onboard audio disabled.
my onboard soundcard (hda-intel ALC662) is not recognized in my new computer. It works fine with other distros, but ubuntu just does not seem to find it:
cat /proc/asound/cards --- no soundcards --- lspci -vvnn:
Has any one got this Sound card to work in Advanced mode: i.e 96KHz / 24 bit It works as a plug and play soundcard at 44Hz 16bit - but Alsa doesn't seem to support the "advanced mode" There is a kernel module driver here [URL] Couldn't get it to work though? When I perform
$ sudo make
I get this error
Quote:
make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build SUBDIRS=`pwd` modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-24-generic' CC [M] /home/rhid/mmusbaudio/mmusbaudio.o Building modules, stage 2.
I'm having a bit of a furball trying to change a soundcard. I took out an Audigy card. KDE detected the removal of the old card and asked me if I wanted to remove the drivers. I said yes. I went into the bios and enabled the onboard sound. Now I've got no sound so I guess I've got some configuration to do. So far:
I was listening to music and decided to check update manager, and after the install I reboot and then POOF, sound is gone, I checked Alsamixer and got "no such file" did aplay -l and got that there was no soundcard found, which I officially can say is bull, since, I DO have a card, hahaha. I am running a HP G72 and already went through the comprehensive check and kinda got with seeing which driver matched my card*EDIT* heres some info I forgot to post
Code: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 1484
I have had on and off problems with my sound for quite some time now. Each time it would stop working, I would find a fix which would work for a month or so, then I would go back to having no sound. I have had consistent sound on my Windows partition, so I don't think something is wrong with the hardware. The first fix I used was using "sudo alsa force-reload" to get ALSA working again. The latest fix I used was to add the line "options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba" to alsa-base.conf, which worked up until now. My built-in computer speakers won't make any sound, nor will my external monitors when they are plugged into the headphone jack. I do get sound when I plug in a pair of USB headphones.
I have tried using the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solution Guide [url], but I run into a predicament...
aplay -l (with or without being root) gives...
Code:
Code:
Alsamixer isn't much help either. It shows the name of my card in the top left, but there are no sliders to adjust.
I've tried compiling the modules from source, reinstalling through Synaptic, and plenty of other things, to no avail. Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite U305-S5107
i recently installed Ubuntu and the USB soundcard worked just fine, but when i changed the "Connector" in Sound Preferences (Output tab) the output stopped working (= no sound). Input still works. Sound did not come back even when i changed the Connector setting back (I hear no sound when its set to Analog Output as well as Analog Headphones, which are the only 2 setting).
I have a problem on a fresh install of Jessie with KDE. I have three soundcards. In Wheezy I used pavucontrol once for each application to change the sink from the internal to the external soundcard, and that setting would stick each time I rebooted the system (audio would go on the external soundcard). Now each time I reboot the audio gets routed to the internal soundcard and I have to use pavucontrol each time to route the audio back to the external one. URL...
and none of them has worked. I don't know if it's a related issue, but the settings I choose in the for Phonon in the KDE multimedia settings don't stick either. I select the external soundcard as default device and upon reboot the internal one is on top on the preferences list.
I have no more sound on my debian. The only audio output I can find is the "dummy output".
When I try ask to aplay -l to display my sound cards, here's the output :
Code: Select alldevice_list:268: aucune carte son n'a été trouvée... <=> french for "no sound card found"
But I can still see my card(s) using lspci :
Code: Select all00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller (rev 06) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device fa49 Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 255 Memory at f7a14000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled] [size=16K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
[Code] ....
I already updated the system, reinstalled pulseaudio and alsa without any success.
Alright, just installed maverick, got the sound to work great on the 7.1 with pulseaudio. works great in movies, and everything else just wonderfully. the only thing i am stumped by is how to get the sound to loop from my digital input on my soundcard to my analog speakers also on the same soundcard. i know the sound feed works on the input as the makeshift VU meter/bar on my digital input in the sound preferences moves, but i can't get the sound to actually come through on my speakers.
I have an X-Station 25 synth, which has worked fine in the past on Ubuntu. Recently made a fresh install on Xubuntu, and for whatever reason, I'm getting no sound coming out when I just select USB audio. If I go into Sound Preferences, I can see the device. I can even select it for sound input. Hell, if I press some keys on the keyboard, I can see some of the squares on the input level go green.Evidently, there IS sound coming in via the USB connection, and Audacity is capable of recording it.
However, the only way of hearing it is by putting headphones directly into the unit and listening to the monitor output signal. The audio coming in, as detected, is not being played from my laptop speakers/headphones.Am I just missing something here, and that's MEANT to be the only way to hear the audio out?In alsamixer, there are no controls for the Xstation, and nothing seems to be muted. I've upgraded the firmware to the most recent version as well.
I use Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex. I have a Realtek HD Audio Sound Card. All works well, but i dont get any sound, when i insert an earphone/headphone into the audio jack. The speakers are working though. I have an Acer aspire 5542g laptop, with ADM Turion dual core, 3gb ram, ati mobility radeon GPU.
I've recently built a new PC with an ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard with Realteck ALC1200 integrated audio. I'm connecting my Logitech z-5300 to it.
I'm not getting any audio despite connecting everything properly.
I'm not sure if it is because there is no stock drivers for it, or if there is some other issue. I'm not sure what the source of my problem is, or how to fix it. I'm a noob when it comes to audio, so any help is greatly appreciated!
