Whenever i wanna watch a video on any site like ....., hulu, or cbs, the video watches fine in the normal minimized view. But when
i turn on fullscreen the video plays for a couple minutes, or seconds, and then freezes for about half a minute, but the sound continues.
I'm using ubuntu 11.04 with Unity 2d as my hardware is too old to run the original one. I was previously using Lubuntu but after a slight RAM upgrade decided to use Ubuntu. Now I can't watch full screen video's online which is not the problem as it's always been like this with every distro I've used but now I can't even watch full screen videos in VLC, totem or any other media player for that matter, it'll either lag or completely freeze my system and this worked in Lubuntu fine

This happened in both MPlayer and VLC as long as the HDMI cable was connected. Audio was fine.It presents as some sort off copyright protection, but I remember being able to watch movies fine in Maverick. Is anyone else having this problem with Natty?

n an up-to-date kubuntu karmic I experience the following:watching a flash video with adobeflash in firefox in fullscreen mode, randomly the picture freezes while the audio continues. The video unfreezes when I move the mouse, the video then fastforwards to the actual replay position. Video card is nvidia geforce fx5200 on proprietary driver, I have the desktop effects enabled. Any idea what this is about? I discovered the effects causing wine windows to break (no window contents, no foreground, no reaction on mouse) when changing the desktops or minimizing them. Seems like there are some bugs in the window manager / decorator...

Another problem I'm having is that when I turn the volume past 60% using the sound applet on the panel, it gets very distorted. If I open sound preferences, I notice it is in the "amplified" zone at this point, so I have to keep it in the "unamplified" zone, but then it's not loud enough.

i've got a mythbuntu 10.10 box connected to my tv; sometimes i want to use it to watch internet tv. owever, when i try to resize videos to full-screen, sometimes black bars intermittently flash across the entire screen. this does not happen when the video is in a window or on the web page, only when going into full-screen mode. unfortunately, on some of these sites, even the "large" in-page video selection is still too small to be comfortably watched from the couch.
i'd suspect it's something with flash, but a similar thing happens when i'm using skype inside a windows xp on vmware. black bars flashing across when in "full-screen" but just fine when zoomed up inside a window. and i don't think vmware video output is flash-based. so it may be something else entirely.
also, this doesn't happen on all internet video - i've only had it happen on video from nbc.com and nfl.com (i haven't really had the opportunity or reason to try many other sites yet), and it was only a little noticeable from the nfl.com but nearly unwatchable from nbc. yet if i go to videos, i have no trouble getting any of their videos running full-screen.
i have an integrated geforce 8200 graphics, and i'm running the nvidia proprietary drivers version 256. i'm not running 260 since its vdpau capability is questionable, and i need that for mythtv. i have a 64-bit system.
does anyone have any ideas regarding this? the fact that i'm getting consistently good results from videos yet consistently bad ones from the tv networks makes me wonder if it's something i'm even going to be able to fix.
I'm running 9.10 x64 version on an Athlon II x4 with 4 gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon HD 4770 card, using the fglrx driver. I'm also using Compiz.
However, I'm having a pretty major problem with video playback. Some time after starting playback, the entire system appears to freeze up. At least the video does, anyway. The audio continues to play, but the mouse is locked in place and the video frame doesn't move. I tried alt-prscr-k, but couldn't kill X. I tried ctrl-alt-f1 and f2 but again, no change. Ctrl-alt-delete had no response either. In the end, I've been having to use alt-prscr-REISUB to restart the machine.
This problem happens at unpredictable times. The other night, I watched about 1 and a half hours of DVD before it happened, and then after restarting I couldn't watch 10 seconds before freezing again. Just now, again, I started watching a video file, and the system locks up a few seconds in to the video, every time (and a different place every time).
I tried both the ati and radeonhd drivers as well, but I couldn't get the results I wanted with my 2-monitor display. I've only been able to get my monitors the way I want them using fglrx. But without being able to watch video, it's pointless anyway.
I'm lost for what to do... I've spend the last 24 hours installing and uninstalling and reinstalling the different ATI drivers over and over, only to come back to this problem. Is there something I'm missing completely?
As the title implies I can't use the fullscreen feature in a flash video because all the screen turns white &, wherever the pointer was, get noticed as a faint shadow. I can increase the screen only if using the keyboard shortcut <Ctl++> keys combination.Have Shockwave Flash 10.1.r82 add-on. Firefox version is 3.6.8. Ubuntu = 10.0.4 LTS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I play videos in VLC, the video output seems to randomly freeze while playing the video. This does not effect the audio though. The audio output continues, but with the video frozen on a frame. This is happening in windowed and full-screen mode. I have to use "pkill vlc" each time twice then start VLC again. I have had to resort to mplayer for the time being. I am running squeeze. I was not experiencing this problem before though (started within the past week), so it must be due to some recent upgrade. I have tried "aptitude purge vlc && aptitude install vlc", but I am still experiencing the same problem.

(i assume because they both use gstreamer.) when i try to use vlc when those 2 aren't working, the video does play but there is no sound.

I have not changed any settings on the Backend, only loaded a few Music, Photos & Videos to the /var/lib/mythtv/music & pictures & video directories.
Photos & music functionality is 100%
The problem I'm having is with the "Watch Video" option; the test videos I have loaded to /var/lib/mythtv/videos directory, show up in the Watch Video section, all the information on each movie is displayed (looks great), it gives me the option to "Play" the video, but when I select play, nothing happens.
If I close the "Frontend" and open the same movies with VLC the work perfectly
I installed 10.04 in a Dell Dimension 3000 for my father. It's a nice upgrade from the old Pentium 3, except for graphics it seems. I tried playing a video I recorded on my phone. Movie player(totem) appears to play the video, but instead shows a blank screen. Moving the window, minimizing, ect. shows a frame or two, but that's it. Converting to OGG, and turning off compix does nothing. I installed VLC and now the video plays but in slow motion. Sound works great in both. I'm not sure if it's an Intel graphics thing or what, but it's pretty bad when ..... plays better then local video.
BTW not sure if it's related but it also seems to have a problem coming out of suspend.
i'm really irritated with this huge problem with my system. i'm using ubutnu10.10 on my dell inspiron 1525. the problem is, whenever i play any video on any browser(firefox and chromium), no matter if its your tube or vimeo or whatever. the system crashes as soon as video starts to play. the video plays for few seconds system starts to slow a bit and suddenly it crashed and shuts down.
also while using the totem videos sidebar i can searhc the video but cannot play it at all.
i get this error
"gstreamer encountered a general supporting library error"
i tried other forums too but.. no help till now. its like 2 months with both these problems
This is happening pretty often. when in ubuntu, usually while i'm browsing the web, my browser will go dim then a box will come up saying something along the lines of missing resources. the thing is, all my desktop icons will then turn to red x's and no text characters on any further boxes will show. when i restart it says grub error and takes one more restart to finally come on. i got fed up with it and switched over to windows 7 where my browser also froze and my computer froze up.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway Laptop which is dual-booting Windows XP SP3 32-bit and Ubuntu 10.04, also 32-bit. The 64-bit version, would not install on my computer, even though the computer has 64-bit capabilities. It doesn't bother me that I use the 32-bit version, but something it is now doing seems to be affecting the way things work on my laptop. The computer has 4GB of RAM in it, an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, and an ATI Radeon X-series graphics card. The monitor has HDMI capabilities. On the Windows side, it handles full-screen programs and operates very quickly. On the Linux side, I can also run things quickly. However, most programs on the Linux side are much slower-running than they would be on the Windows side.
Something I notice when my laptop goes into fullscreen on the Linux side, is that the color quality goes way down. You can see that it is trying to run in apparently 256 colors, and each individual pixel is very visible. It does not do this on the Windows side. Also, programs that I run on this half of the computer are very laggy, slow, and inefficient. I know that my computer has the video and processing power to handle these programs with ease, but it isn't utilizing all of it. How can I make Ubuntu run at a higher speed overall, by taking advantage of all four gigs of RAM and this 2.4 GHz Turion processor to run everything like Windows does?
I have set the hotkey for "Very short backwards jump" and "Very short forward jump" to "Left" and "Right" respectively, and yet pressing the left and right arrow key does not work. Plus when I play the video in fullscreen the subtitles look pixelated.

I can't alt-tab or escape out of fullscreen, my mouse doesn't work and the keyboard is unresponsive. I'm forced to restart by pressing my computer's power button. This happens in both vlc and kmplayer and it also happened a few times when i was not watching a video. I was just on firefox, browsing the internet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Compiz Config Settings Manager installed on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine. All the effects are working properly and everything is running fine. However when i play video with VLC Media Player, i would only get audio and no video. After looking this up i changed the output to X11 vidoe Output. I started getting video and audio. But when i switch to fullscreen mode the fullscreen video window is rendered by Compiz and thus has all of those window effects like wobbly, minimize, maximize and stuff are also applied to the full screen video. It also does not have all those controls that vlc normally shows when you wiggle your mouse in full-screen mode. I tried disabling the Video Playback option from the CCSM window, but to no avail.
The same thing also happens for the full screen view of Google Chrome. And the only way to leave full screen is to press F11 again. In this case the tab stacking area which drops down doesn't appear at all, also the exit full screen option which too drops down also does not appear. It seems Compiz is blocking all of those interactive buttons like the floating control panel in VLC and Tab stacking area in Chrome.
