Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound In Mplayer?

Nov 22, 2010

So I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on an HP Mini 210-1190NR. Everything runs fine except mplayer. I installed mplayer from the repos but when I try to play a video I get no sound. I can't figure out why.

Here's the output:

Code:
mplayer star.wars.the.clone.wars.s03e10.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu.mkv
MPlayer SVN-r32636-4.4.5 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer Team

Debian Multimedia :: No Sound In KDE - VLC/mplayer/firefox Still Have Sound

May 26, 2010

I made a recent update to my Squeeze system and got this weird problem. mplayer, VLC and firefox (.....) all have sound. But when I try to run Amarok I get nothing. I looked into the Multimedia panel on the KDE4 system settings, and its not showing any devices at all. Previously it used to show HDA Intel etc., etc. Now the entries are completely blank. How do I get KDE to recognize my hardware? Shouldnt it pick things up automatically?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Get Sound To Work In Mplayer For Myth Tv Box

Aug 7, 2011

Im trying to get sound to work in mplayer for my myth tv box. My hardware setup is a nvidia motherboard with hdmi (not used) and a geforce 210 with hdmi (that is used). The hdmi is connect to an external amplifier that should handle most things. Sound works fine in mythtv - the audio output device used is:

ALSA:hdmi:Card=Nvidia_1,DEV=1

When I try using the command line speaker-test utility it all works:

speaker-test -Dplughw:2,7 -c6

However, aplay and mplayer both dont give any sound - with neither outputting any error messages.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Windows Media 9 Codec: No Sound In Mplayer / Totem / Vlc

May 15, 2010

how I fixed my sound problems, that happened only for "windows media 9" videos, after struggling for days changing the players etc. (using Ubuntu lucid 10.04 up to date)First search for "Ubuntu install w32codecs" (or w64codecs depending on your system bus width) and... install them as root or 'sudo'

Code:

$ sudo apt-get install w32codecs (or w64codecs)

After updating totem to the very latest version (May 12, 3 days ago) the problem happened to be likely from the source: gstreamer. So I tried to install the latest version of gstreamer, and it worked (the default one packaged in Ubuntu is dated 2008...).

Code:

try
{
install latest developer version
}

General :: Mplayer No Sound When Playing Some Movies?

Feb 27, 2010

that's a bit of a strange problem, that somehow crept into my system. It used to work fine.Here is the problem as far as I can identify it. When I try to play certain video files with mplayer, there is no sound. As far as I can tell, it is only an issue with ac3 and dts sound tracks (using the ffmpeg decoder).Mplayer says:

Software :: No Sound While Playing Mkv File With Mplayer?

May 12, 2011

I am on the latest version of Ubuntu, and I try to keep my system up to date. I have a few mkv files that I make from avi and subtitles. When I play them with mplayer, there is no sound, and I have this error : Too many video packets in the buffer: (3924 in 33557981 bytes). Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed? For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.

But when I play the mkv with the default Ubuntu player, it works perfectly, there is the sound.

I don't really understand what that means, and I like to play my video files with mplayer.

Fedora :: F12 - Watch Movie In Mplayer - Sound Disappeared

Feb 22, 2010

I had good working installation of Fedora 12 x86_64 on my desktop, but few days ago, during watch movie in mplayer, sound disappeared. Till today i can't figure out, what happened - no errors displayed, no changes in configuration and no sound (both KDE and Gnome).

I checked soundcard in ubuntu live cd and it works fine. Also on login screen in my current Fedora 12 "beep" plays when i choose user, but after this i have no sounds.

I have up to date system, pulseaudio installed (i tried to remove it, but with no effect - without it also no sound).

Strange thing is, that sound disappeared during normal work, not after update or install anything.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Using VDPAU With MPlayer And VLC?

Jan 23, 2010

I am trying to take advantage of VDPAU for playing video files with my ASRock ION 330. As far as I know, MPlayer and VLC both include VDPAU support. Ok then, I managed to make MPlayer work from the command line:

mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau ./filename.mkv

In this way it plays a 720p content smoothly, with under 10% CPU use. Great!The problem is when I try to make this permanent, i.e., configuring the files ~/.mplayer/config and ~/.mplayer/gui.conf.This is what I have in there:

config
======
vo=vdpau,xv,
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,

[code]....

But still, when I open MPlayer from the menu, no matter what file I try to open it gives this ugly message:Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. With regard to VLC, I had no luck, although I am using the latest "1.0.3 Goldeneye" version, I don't know how to make use of VDPAU.

I'm trying to use mplayer to stream some content from the net to my desktop. This worked fine the first time I did it (though failed dismally on all subsequent occasions. Now, the first umpteen times, I was behind a proxy. Now I am not behind a proxy, but mplayer still looks for the proxy settings. Why? I have changed the proxty settings in the network proxy (applied globally), in Firefox and every where else I can think of. I use the following command:

Code:

mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile ~/Desktop/<desired_filename>.avi http://<source>.avi

and I'm told in response

Code:

What gives? Why is mplayer trying to use a proxy, and how can I tell it not to?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mplayer With Vdpau - Reset ?

Dec 12, 2010

I am using mplayer with vdpau enabled in Ubuntu 10.10. It works very well in general, reducing cpu usage for hd from 50% to 60% to around 10 -15% or less. There is however one slightly annoying problem. It is that mplayer would appear to "forget" its vdpau output setting once in a while and especially after rebooting. When that happens it needs to be "reset" in order to use vdpau. "Resetting" basically just means opening gnome-mplayer and change video output to xv and then back to vdpau again.

I should clarify that the setting has not actually been lost, it still says "vdpau", it just need resetting).
