I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 with gnome3 on my EEE PC and coming over an annoying problem.
After I pushed any key on my keyboard I cant use after for 1-2 seconds my mouse. After this I can use the mouse as usual until I use the keyboard again
just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

I have a Hp pavillion dv5 (laptop) running Ubuntu 10.04 with all of the updates. When i start it up i can move around the mouse just fine. As soon as I hit enter to log in, the mousepad on my laptop stops working completely. The mousepad doesnt work nor do the buttons. However, if I plug in a USB mouse the USB mouse works fine, but the mousepad doesn't.

I had Edubuntu 8.10 installed and have now installed 10-10 Ubuntu to rule out software issues. During the new install, the video would stop after a period of time, and could return to operation by moving the mouse. The same mouse,keyboard, and monitor are being used on three other computer boxes using a KVM switch. The problem is unique to this Foxconn box. After the unit freezes, I can use the alt-ctr-sysrq RES to eliminate the GUI. This tells me that the Linux system is still running.
What segment of the system log should I be examining? Is this an IRQ issue?
I have recently installed Ubuntu on my desktop. Whenever I log in after approx. 2 minutes the keyboard or mouse (or sometimes both) freezes. The mouse and keyboard are connected via USB and not p2/p. rebooting every 2 min in order to use the OS is not exactly convenient

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 using the distro upgrade feature. Everything was upgraded without errors.
However, my mouse/keyboard now freezes after 10+ minutes of use. Both are unresponsive, and the keyboard lights does not change with the use of caps-lock, etc.
The system didn't crash though. I had a download running which was completed despite the mouse/keyboard hang.
The computer is barely usable now, I really wished I didn't upgrade...
I've had these problems ever since upgrading to 10.10Boot up goes nowhere unless I touch the trackpad or keyboard. My clock says it's 10:00am but it's three in the afternoon, so I'm always having to resync with NTP. Music and video stutters with playback unless I touch the trackpad.I'm on a Toshiba NB205 netbook.These are pretty big problems. And I'm sure I'm not the only one using 10.10. Is there no fix out for this yet?

After some time, the mouse just randomlyeezes, although the keyboard is still responsive.I plugged in a second USB (standalone) mouse.It initially worked, but after some time, it also freezes. Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, GNOME desktop. Previous install (same OS) gave an error when switching users. Did a fresh install, and now the keyboard and mouse freeze. This happens almost every session. I have to force shutdown. Sometimes it happens in 5 minutes, other times it happens in 4 hours. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but the Ubuntu problems are starting to get to me. I really want to use this. I like it, but I'm getting frustrated. 9.10 had wireless problems, and now I'm getting this freezing thing. Both the keyboard and mouse are USB connections. Everything else works when the freeze occurs, i.e., video's still play, web browser is still displaying gifs, etc. Only the mouse and keyboard freeze. All other operations seem normal.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been battling this issues for about a year now. Kind of got tired of dealing with it, but inevitably I go away for vacation or something and I lose power at the fort then the system will not come back up on its own.
Every time (100%) I power my system on with the single USB cable connected to it, my system hangs. It did it on 8.x, 9.x and all versions of 10.x. I have asked the questions before, but never get anywhere with it. Finally I have found this Forum and figured out how to ask questions Weird, I know
Anyway.
The system goes through the BIOS check and gets to the GRUB loader. If I do nothing, it hangs with a black screen just after it says that it is loading the kernel.
If I change the kernel commands to include the noacpi=apic or most other common fixes for what I have been told, USB, I get to the same place seemingly.
In reading through the forums and a little testing, I find that if I remove the splash and the quiet commands (obviously snicker), I am able to see where it is really stopping, but does not make sense to me.

There is nothing in the SYSLOG, MESSAGES or DMESG at all for this boot. I would assume that the system is not to a point where we can log this data
This is an AMD Phenom II x4 running 10.04 64bit Ubuntu. The USB connected device is an Avocent KVM 4 port with Audio and USB.
My work machine crashes 1-3 times a day, and I often lose work. This is getting very frustrating--I've never known a Linux system to be so unstable.
When it freezes, I can still move the mouse around. I believe it's also still doing some background tasks, since files have finished copying before and my music will still be playing, if it was before. But the mouse cursor doesn't change, and it's totally nonresponsive.
The trouble is, I don't know how to diagnose this problem, to tell you something less vague. I might be able to check, to see what's going on? The problem usually comes about when I'm doing something--either loading a new web page, or starting a new program, or even when I just hit a button. Otherwise, I'm just stumped.
Since upgrading to the final version of 64Bit Natty, I have a problem with the mouse randomly freezing, I cannot do anything with it. So far the cure is to press enter, which also sometimes starts a program or logs out, but not all the time. In fact generally it just unfreezes the mouse and I carry on!It is though rather annoying so if there is a solution to this I would appreciate it.It never happened with the Beta versions just the final one!

My mouse won't movie, the status bar doesn't move, nothing. The status bar is currently about 90% or the way full, and states 'Installing System.'Do I need to manually restart my computer and start over? Or should it fix itself if I leave it long enough?

Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.

They keyboard and mouse stop responding (my keyboard status lights no longer respond, but my optical mouse light is still on). I can ssh to the machine, and it seems to work as normal. I kill processes that are open on my desktop through ssh, (i.e., Firefox), and I notice when I switch back, I still have the same frozen image on my screen. I have been using Tvtime for several years and never had trouble with the video until now. Now it opens, but it's frozen. There is no picture and no sound, just a black screen that I can't control in any way. Even to close it, I have to go through the terminal.I can still get channels using Mplayer, so the tuner should not be the problem. However, t is an Hauppauge 950.I was using Lucid on both partitions. Initially, one quit,but not the other. About a month later the other quit while I was watching which makes me think it may be something I have simply hit on the keyboard. I have since upgraded to Maverick on one and reinstalled Tvtime to no avail

It would work fine connected to my laptop on AC power, but it would freeze when on battery.I have "laptop-mode-tools" installed, and I traced this problem to laptop-mode-tools trying to put the mouse to sleep and not waking it up.To solve this, I have blacklisted the power management for the USB mouse. First, I did "lsusb" to find the mouse device:

After logging into fedora about 5 minutes into the session everything except the mouse freezes on the screen. There is nothing that works. A hard reboot is done and the same thing happens after logging in. The system use to work fine up until a few weeks ago. I suspect it may be an yum update.

This is most annoying when I'm goofing off playing a flash game that requires both keyboard and mouse inputs, since if I use the keyboard for anything I can't use the mouse for a second or so.I've tried searching the forums but I can't seem to find anything on this topic.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo it's a beautiful day and I'll be happily using my computer when I realise that the screen is no longer showing that I'm typing or moving my mouse (or finger across a touch-pad). I can leave my computer in this frozen/crashed state for hours. My only recourse is to drain the battery or hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop/notebook. As my memory serves, it has an ATI graphics thingy. Radeon 1400, maybe. But I've had the computer for years and this behaviour has emerged only the past couple of months, with seemingly increasing frequency.

Sometimes this happens within minutes of turning the computer on and logging into Gnome. Sometimes this happens only hours after I've started using the computer (mainly just surfing the web). Sometimes it is preceded by a loud boop sound and the following if I have console open, sometimes not. So maybe that's unrelated. But that happened just now so I thought I'd throw it in.
One weird thing: Usually this happens within an hour of starting to use the computer, but one occasion I noticed I had not had the problem for several hours. On that occasion, the only thing I noticed I was doing that was also unusual: I had turned on and forgotten about a kvm virtual machine. After I shut down the vm, I had about only a minute before the freeze. I'm surprised now that it hasn't frozen since I started typing thing. Maybe I should always keep this forum open in a browser window.

I have updated the bios to the latest version.
I just upgraded from F11 to F12. Everything seems to be nice except mouse. The mouse buttons (both left and right, except middle one) are accidently frozen for some times. It could happen when opening a new tab in Firefox, launching a program, opening a new windows. I cannot click anywhere but can use mouse wheel. I have to log off/ log in and it becomes normal. It does not happen so frequently (around 3-4 hours) but it is really annoying.

When I begin to use Mozilla Firefox (version automatically installed with OpenSUSE 11.3) the cursor freezes or locks up (when I move the mouse/cursor-pointer), and the only way I can do anything is turn off the computer and start over (to no avail, because it does the same thing within a a minute or so after entering Mozilla Firefox. I did not have this problem with OpenSUSE 11.2.

CPU: i7-920
Memory: 12G of Patriot DDR3, 6 modules
OS: SLED 11, Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop, using Gnome
Main board: Asus P6T
Video: two Nvidia 9500GT connected to three displays
I am using memory at recommended settings of 8-8-8-1333. It has an XMP profile. Th CPU is a bit overclocked to 3.3 GHz, but my cooling more than allows for it. I ran the computer with all overclocks off and lower memory speed but the issue was still there.
