OpenSUSE :: Mouse Freezes After Keyboard Use In Flash?
Aug 24, 2011
I'm running suse 11.4 64bit and flash 11.0.1.60 My problem is that when I'm running flash if I give some keyboard input then my mouse (and only my mouse from what I can tell) will freeze for a second or so. This is most annoying when I'm goofing off playing a flash game that requires both keyboard and mouse inputs, since if I use the keyboard for anything I can't use the mouse for a second or so.I've tried searching the forums but I can't seem to find anything on this topic.

I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 using the distro upgrade feature. Everything was upgraded without errors.
However, my mouse/keyboard now freezes after 10+ minutes of use. Both are unresponsive, and the keyboard lights does not change with the use of caps-lock, etc.
The system didn't crash though. I had a download running which was completed despite the mouse/keyboard hang.
The computer is barely usable now, I really wished I didn't upgrade...

I've had these problems ever since upgrading to 10.10Boot up goes nowhere unless I touch the trackpad or keyboard. My clock says it's 10:00am but it's three in the afternoon, so I'm always having to resync with NTP. Music and video stutters with playback unless I touch the trackpad.I'm on a Toshiba NB205 netbook. These are pretty big problems. And I'm sure I'm not the only one using 10.10. Is there no fix out for this yet?

So it's a beautiful day and I'll be happily using my computer when I realise that the screen is no longer showing that I'm typing or moving my mouse (or finger across a touch-pad). I can leave my computer in this frozen/crashed state for hours. My only recourse is to drain the battery or hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop/notebook. As my memory serves, it has an ATI graphics thingy. Radeon 1400, maybe. But I've had the computer for years and this behaviour has emerged only the past couple of months, with seemingly increasing frequency.
The OS is
# uname -a
Linux polaris 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jan 10 22:40:40 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
(aka Squeeze?)
Sometimes this happens within minutes of turning the computer on and logging into Gnome. Sometimes this happens only hours after I've started using the computer (mainly just surfing the web). Sometimes it is preceded by a loud boop sound and the following if I have console open, sometimes not. So maybe that's unrelated. But that happened just now so I thought I'd throw it in.
One weird thing: Usually this happens within an hour of starting to use the computer, but one occasion I noticed I had not had the problem for several hours. On that occasion, the only thing I noticed I was doing that was also unusual: I had turned on and forgotten about a kvm virtual machine. After I shut down the vm, I had about only a minute before the freeze. I'm surprised now that it hasn't frozen since I started typing thing. Maybe I should always keep this forum open in a browser window.

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, GNOME desktop. Previous install (same OS) gave an error when switching users. Did a fresh install, and now the keyboard and mouse freeze. This happens almost every session. I have to force shutdown. Sometimes it happens in 5 minutes, other times it happens in 4 hours. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but the Ubuntu problems are starting to get to me. I really want to use this. I like it, but I'm getting frustrated. 9.10 had wireless problems, and now I'm getting this freezing thing. Both the keyboard and mouse are USB connections. Everything else works when the freeze occurs, i.e., video's still play, web browser is still displaying gifs, etc. Only the mouse and keyboard freeze. All other operations seem normal.

I have been battling this issues for about a year now. Kind of got tired of dealing with it, but inevitably I go away for vacation or something and I lose power at the fort then the system will not come back up on its own.
Every time (100%) I power my system on with the single USB cable connected to it, my system hangs. It did it on 8.x, 9.x and all versions of 10.x. I have asked the questions before, but never get anywhere with it. Finally I have found this Forum and figured out how to ask questions Weird, I know
Anyway.
The system goes through the BIOS check and gets to the GRUB loader. If I do nothing, it hangs with a black screen just after it says that it is loading the kernel.
If I change the kernel commands to include the noacpi=apic or most other common fixes for what I have been told, USB, I get to the same place seemingly.
In reading through the forums and a little testing, I find that if I remove the splash and the quiet commands (obviously snicker), I am able to see where it is really stopping, but does not make sense to me.
The last informational text that appears to be processed is one of
Registered Protocol Family 1
There is nothing in the SYSLOG, MESSAGES or DMESG at all for this boot. I would assume that the system is not to a point where we can log this data
This is an AMD Phenom II x4 running 10.04 64bit Ubuntu. The USB connected device is an Avocent KVM 4 port with Audio and USB.

I am using Debian with a gnome desktop.
Code: Select alluname -a
returns
Code: Select allLinux app-server 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux
My desktop sometimes freezes and does not respond to keyboard or mouse. I initially thought the CPU was overheating but it froze tonight when my CPU temperature was 32C and it has been up to 50C without freezing. I am beginning to think it is a software issue rather than a hardware issue but do not know. I looked at the pm-powersave.log and user.log but did not see anything suspicious.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on other machines before and have not experienced this problem. Occasionally, the system will lock up. They keyboard and mouse stop responding (my keyboard status lights no longer respond, but my optical mouse light is still on). I can ssh to the machine, and it seems to work as normal. I kill processes that are open on my desktop through ssh, (i.e., Firefox), and I notice when I switch back, I still have the same frozen image on my screen. I have looked at the following files to determine any issues with the GPU:

I installed SalixOS on my laptop just to play with when I'm bored. My laptop is nothing special, it's a couple of years old has a pentium dual core t2390 at 1.86Ghz and 3 GB ddr2 RAM with Intel video.
I then have a beast i7 920 clocked to 3331Mhz 6GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GT220. Full screen ..... at 720p is fine unless I move the mouse, then the whole picture freezes. Persistant mouse movement will freeze the screen for a few minutes. This machine runs both slack64 current and slack13 32 bits.
The slack box does much better with 32 bit flash than 64, but it still doesn't do nearly as well as the laptop.
With Salix and Slack being so close to each other supposedly I can't figure out why the hardware seems to be irrelevant. The only thing I can think of would be the video codecs installed by Salix, whereas I built a bunch of codecs myself for Slack.

I'm in trouble with openSUSE 11.3 that's why I'm here. When I install a brand new openSUSE 11.3 (with GNOM or KDE) to my brand new hardware I found a serious problem. After login and use of openSUSE the keyboard and mouse will freeze. I can not determine the cause of freeze. As I sudty the problem it is not related with any idle time or etc. SUSE randomly freezes the keyborad and mouse. Sometimes I can use my system for a half an hour other times freezes almost immediately. It is also true when I leave the system alone.
What I did:
- I studied this forum article:
Keyboard & mouse freezes
- When I use BIOS only the system will not freeze -> possibly not hardware problem
- I upgrade my kernel to maximum accoridng to openSUSE kernel repository
- Install GNOM and KDE; it's all the same
- change USB setting according the mentioned article:
echo -1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-4.4/power/autosuspend

I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 yesterday. When I begin to use Mozilla Firefox (version automatically installed with OpenSUSE 11.3) the cursor freezes or locks up (when I move the mouse/cursor-pointer), and the only way I can do anything is turn off the computer and start over (to no avail, because it does the same thing within a a minute or so after entering Mozilla Firefox. I did not have this problem with OpenSUSE 11.2.

i installed suselinux 11.3 on my lenovo t410 and i am using kde4. since then, i have the following problem: the screen freezes suddenly and the keyboard doesn't work anymore. i can move the mouse cursor, but clicking doesn't work. funny enough, the sound still works. the only way to restart the laptop is by pushing the power button for 10 seconds.
so far, there was no real pattern about the 'when does that happen?'. it happens sometimes when i am surfing on 'innocent' webpages like wikipedia or spiegel.de, not very often while watching videos. once it happened when i was only using kile for latex. it happened while i was experimenting with kdenlive. another time when i opened 2 vcl player in order to watch 2 videos simultanously.
sometimes there are days without trouble, sometimes i have to restart the laptop 5 times (like today...). is there a way to find out what is actually wrong? and how to get rid of the problem? (how do i create a proper bug report of these incidents?)

Sometimes, (the most when I'm making changes in something, like the pager, appearance, theme, etc), the screen freezes completely (but mouse is moving) and I have to restart the system.
If I try it again, it crashes at the same point.

I have a recently installed version of opensuse 11.4 and I am unable to use the keyboard and the mouse at the same time. Whenever I type on the keyboard my mouse will become frozen for about 2 seconds and then will work as normal. It will happen with any key press. This problem became very apparent when trying to play first person shooters. I cannot move with the keyboard and look around with the mouse at the same time

I just installed the new OpenSuSE 11.2 release and after coming up in graphical mode the keyboard and mouse are not responding at all.
After that via a remote login force the machine back to runlevel 3 and this makes it able to login to the console and trying to start sax2 to make a new X configuration.
Well it doesn't read the old configuration but gets stuck as well.
The install was an update from OpenSuSE 11.1.

I am quite experienced in installing openSUSE. (I used it for many years.) But the problem showed below tricks me out.
I just tried to install openSUSE 11.2. In initmode 3 the keyboard works well. Everything worked well up to the moment I started runlevel 5. In XWindows Modus, the keyboard and the mouse are disabled. And I cannot get back to any other Virtual console.
When I started sax2, I get something (in the file /var/log/Sax.log) or both mouse and keyboard like this:
It indicates , mouse and keyboard are disabled.
Here are my questions:
How can I ENABLE my keyboard and my mouse?
Where is the file that configures sax2?
Do I have to set ("on") the AutoAddDevices? or to "off"

I have just update from 11.1 to 11.2 and after reboot system hangs when arrives to the screen where all users logins are showed. I run the installation again in repair mode. Everything correct. Started system again in Level 3, login as one of the users and run startx. It starts the desktop but no keyboard or mouse is working. Started system again in level 3, login as root, started gdm and same results. It arrives to the login screen for the different users and keyboard and mouse does not work. System seems to be running as clock in the right down works.
Started system again in Level 3, login as root, run SaX2 and same results: no keyboard no mouse. I am running gnome desktop with last image downloaded openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso. it seems to be something related to bug in OpenSuse 11.2 Milestone 7: (Bugs:Most Annoying Bugs 11.2 dev - openSUSE) HAL may crash, leaving XOrg without keyboard and mouse (Bug #537452), work-around: update with 'hal' package from Base:System

On our SuSe 11.1 PC keyboard and mouse are no more responding although it did work properly until yesterday. We shut down the computer yesterday evening and today they do not work anymore. But it is not a hardware problem, we can use keyboard and mouse until Grub bootloader, but as soon as we start a Linux session (doesn't matter if normal or failsave mode) the keyboard and mouse are disabled, we can see that because the NumLock and CapsLock LEDs are switched off immediately.
We have no idea what happened. We booted from CD into rescue mode and mounted the hard disk manually and checked some logfiles, but the boot.log tells us that USB keyboard and mouse are detected, as well as the Xorg.0.log file. And we found no indication that keyboard or mouse are disabled or something like that.

I just upgraded (via backup and install) from 11.1 to 11.2. SaX2 was perfect for configuring my IBM SpaceSaver (Trackpoint) USB keyboard, and my Logitech Marble Mouse. Now that SaX2 doesn't have the keyboard or mouse, eh... modules?, I don't know how I can configure them the way I'd like.
What now? I'd rather not have to use the on-screen keyboard every time I start up openSUSE to turn off NumLock... Do I have to manually edit /etc/xorg.conf now?
