Ubuntu :: Modeline For Vizio 32" TV?

Sep 10, 2010

I have an Nvidia GeForce 6150 integrated video card, and my TV is a Vizio VW32L. I installed the latest recommended driver from the Hardware Drivers. When I open the utility, I can select 1360x768, which is pretty close I thought. I selected this and hit apply, but it cuts off both the right and left side of the screen. For example, I can't see the Applications in the upper left corner. I went in to the TV menu and auto-adjusted, but it still cuts off both sides. I looked around the forums a bit and it sounds like I have to create a modeline. This is from my manual:
1366x768
60Hz
47.55 H.Freq (kHz)
59.81 V.Freq (Hz)
Positive H.Sync
Positive V.Sync
85.50 Pixel Freq (MHz)
I typed this in on http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl and got the modeline:Modeline "1360x768@60" 84.50 1360 1392 1712 1744 768 783 791 807

Can anybody verify these settings? Or am I going to screw up my TV? Also, I'm pretty new at this. Where in the xorg.conf file do I put this information?

I was looking at other threads and I think I have to add +HSync +Vsync to the end, because my manual says they're both positive, right?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Add Modeline In Xorg.conf

Sep 1, 2011

I have an apple tv1 running ubuntu hardy. Due to audio video requirements I do not want to upgrade. I am trying to get 1080p24 working my TV. I ran X in verbose mode to ensure that my TV supports 1080p24 and it does. For some reason the X is not able to see the 1920x1080 @ 24Hz mode. I got the required information to add the modeline to my xorg.conf.

My xorg.conf is as follows

Code:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Layout0"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0

[CODE]....

When I check the Xorg log file I have the following warning

Code:

(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1920x1080_24"; removing. Is there any way I can append the valid modeline for 1920x1080 @ 24Hz to. I am avoiding using a modified EDID.

General :: X-Window Modeline For High Resolution Modes On NEC LCD 22WV Monitor?

Apr 30, 2010

What should look like X Window System (X.Org) modeline to be put in xorg.conf, for high resolution (incuding recommended 1680x1050 @ 50Hz resolution) for 22" NEC LCD 22WV monitor? X.Org autodetect correctly only 800x600 and lower resolution SVGA modes,unfortunately.1,2

How can I generate proper "Modeline" line for xorg.conf? Is information included in NEC_Datasheet_LCD22WV-english.pdf enough (found on NEC LCD 22WV product info page)? What tools there are available to generate proper modeline for a LCD monitor for Linux? MS Windows (MS Windows XP Home) correctly detects and use 1680x1050 resolution; can I somehow get modeline information from MS Windows?

Footnotes:

1) It might be hardware problem with the monitor itself, as the same LiveCD Linux distribution that couldn't autodetect recommended 1680x1050 mode for NEC LCD 22WV monitor, correctly autodetects recommended 1440x900 mode for slightly smaller NEC LCD 19WV monitor from the same family, by the same producent.

2) Or it might be problem with graphics card (NVIDIA Riva TNT2 M64) not supporting such resolution, or with graphics driver not supporting such resolution.

Debian :: Xorg Log File - Six Identical Blocks Of Information Regarding EDID And Modeline Settings

Feb 4, 2016

I had problems with the system not reading the monitor EDID and have fixed the problem by adding an override file in xorg.conf.d and all of that seems to be working well (although the system has not failed to read the EDID since I implemented the override. go figure).

The thing that I am wondering about is something I see in the Xorg log file. At the end of the log file, after everything seems to be configured, there are six (6) identical blocks of information regarding the EDID and modeline settings. Is this normal or is X stuck in some kind of loop? Everything is working and I am not waiting an inordinate amount of time to log on, or after. Just curious. Here is the log file.

Ubuntu :: 1080p Vizio Razor VM230XVT TV Stuck At 800x600 Resolution?

May 1, 2011

I am completely new to Ubuntu or any Linux based OS whatsoever, so excuse me if I sound retarded. I recently installed Xubuntu to an old laptop of mine and everything went fine except for the fact that I had to install a WiFi driver; I liked Xubuntu so much that I decided to go ahead and dual boot Ubuntu on my WIndows 7 machine. After I installed Ubuntu, I realized that I was stuck in 800x600 resolution and I was unable to run the resolution in 1920x1080 like I should be able to. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Ubuntu and I had the same thing happen. Most of the other help forums I had searched claimed that I needed to check my Xorg Config, but I don't know how to do that. Also, I get a "too many connections" message every time I start in Ubuntu; could this possibly be related?

[Code]...

Quick update: Ubuntu will not let me use the "extra visual effects" option for my desktop appearance. It stars searching for a driver then doesn't let me use the enhanced visuals. This leads me to believe that it's a driver issue. How can I tell which driver I am using in Ubuntu????

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 9.10 On Acer Aspire Revo + NVidia ION LE + XBMC On Vizio L32HDTV - Title Bar And Taskbar Missing

Apr 22, 2010

when I connected to the L32 HDTV over the HDMI cable, picture came up, and I thought great, plug & play. But the title bar and taskbar were missing and I soon learned that this cheap Vizio TV has a native resolution of 1366x768 and simply upscales and chops off what it considers "overscan" when you drive it at the proper 720p 1280x720. To add to the problems, it doesn't report the correct EDID modes (look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see the probes or install and use the read-edid package) so 1366x768 isn't an option out of the box. I spent days mucking around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf with custom Modelines, strange options and copying confs from other threads, trying to get it working at 1366x768 or 1360x768 or 1368x768 (some variations seem to work for some people)

In the end, I didn't have to touch xorg.conf at all =) All I had to do was install the newer NVIDIA 195 drivers!!! Then you get the lovely Overscan Compensation slider in nvidia-settings, and all is well. First, you will have to apt-get remove the old drivers (probably -185 or -180). Install apt-show-versions for an easy way to do that. I had a bunch of junk, I just removed all packages that had nvidia-someversionnumber in the package name.

Ubuntu Installation :: New Ubuntu User Can't Load Ubuntu Or Windows

Oct 7, 2010

I'm currently running off of my live-cd, and after spending 4 hours of my life trying to fix this myself, i figured someone out here has to know how to help me. Basically, i wanted to try linux, then liked it enough to decide to put on one of my usb-drives (320g adata nobility NH92), and i couldn't get it to boot anything but windows w/o the live-cd, which would then boot the live-cd, lol, in other words, i couldn't get it to boot at all from the external, even though i had changed the setting in my bios to boot from usb first, and tried manually selecting boot from usb and all that fun stuff.

Sooo... eventually i decided it might be a problem with the bootloader, and while i'm not exactly sure at this point what i have done to my computer, all i can successfully boot is the live cd. When I try to boot w/o the live cd, whether i try to boot from my internal (windows) drive, or external, all i get is a device not found error.I think i could fix it if i had windows recovery cd's (i'm running xp, btw), or installation cds, but... unfortunately, they died in a terrible accident. So i have no cd's at all for windows. :/

Ubuntu Networking :: Ubuntu 2 Ubuntu Via Ethernet While Still Using WiFi?

Jan 26, 2010

I'm wondering if this is even possible. I've searched high and low and have yet to find and answer to this particular setup.

The setup:
Router is in another building.
Desktop connected by WiFi
Laptop connected by WiFi
Both the Desktop and the Laptop are in the same building together. About 5' apart.

SSH server is setup on Desktop
FreeNX client is setup on Laptop

So they can connect just fine via WiFi for remote desktop control of the Desktop from the Laptop (so SSH and FreeNX are working). Is it possible to connect the 2 pc's directly to each other by Ethernet cable AND transfer files between them by Ethernet while still being connected to the Internet by WiFi on them both?Or would the WiFi have to be disabled while using the Ethernet connection?Neither has a Gigabit Ethernet NIC so I know it would at least require a crossover cable or another router to connect the 2 by Ethernet cable. The idea behind all this is to be able to transfer files between computers quickly by Ethernet while the computers are still busy doing other things on the Internet by WiFi.

Ubuntu :: Connecting Ubuntu To Ubuntu Through VNC / Remote Desktop

Apr 19, 2011

The scenario is as follows - I will be moving across the country and my desktop will stay here powered and online, while I move with a laptop. I need a way to connect to the desktop for file streaming(music and movies) as well as using the virtual machines. I have thought about SSH and VNC.I need something failsafe. That's priority one. I won't be around to fix it if it breaks. I can set the computer to come on in the BIOS at a certain time if the power went out. But if I can get in remotely the whole setup is useless.SSH only provides terminal use, correct? So if I chose that route I would be able to access the computer via command line and play music and movies with mplayer and such, correct? But I would not be able to run the virtual machines? Because there will be no GUI, right?

I have been playing with Vinagre and Vino through the host and guest of a virtual machine and I cannot get it to connect. Is there a better application? x11vnc? I have forwarded port 5900 on the router and have upnp enabled. Got a better remote desktop suggestion?I would like to run this setup headless.(no monitor) I also would like to run it without a gpu if that is possible to make it more energy efficient. Both computers are 64 bits and will be running Ubuntu 10.10 and soon 11.04.Are these crappy ideas to begin with? Should I go another route to get my files and access the virtual machines?

While ubuntu was installing it said "network autoconfiguration failed," I hit continue, thinking I could figure out how to configure it later. After lots of googling I still haven't figured out what exactly is wrong.

Code:

after googling around I made it look like:

I would like to provide more information such as ifconfig and any other commands but I'm not exactly sure how I would do that without being able to copy/paste. I guess I would have the command dump the output to a file, but I'm not familiar with the -options this being my first time CLI-only.
