Ubuntu :: Microsoft Office 2000 Product Key Force Shutdown
Jan 10, 2010
I installed office 2000 CD using wine, I did this on Ubuntu net-book remix on a NC10 using a networked CD drive. So the installation went okay, I then came to using the software, word opened and promoted me for my product key, which I entered correctly the window disappeared for a second then repaired, I entered the key again but then this caused the whole program to shut down, I have tried repairing it , reinstalling it all apart from uninstalling and reinstalling it. Which I have tried and subsequently failed
Right I got it to work, so for any looking for the solutions simply go to /home/(username)/.wine/system.reg and change the user name and the organisation either delete it or enter something, I entered my user name but I left the organisation blank but I left the quote marks that were there. Save it and the product code thingy should not appear again.
My girlfriend of over a year recently bought a Toshiba laptop. Don't know much about it for I have not seen it myself. 3GB of RAM. Anyway, it's a Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. She has Microsoft Office 2007 pre-installed on it. Now, it's asking for a Product Key, which she does not have. Why? I don't know. I guess they didn't give her a box that has one on it, or something.
So, she sent Microsoft an e-mail and is now awaiting a reply. Anything that I can (LEGALLY) do to help her figure out the Product Key? She said there is one inputed (didn't think that was a word) in the dialog window asking for it, but it says that it's incorrect.
installation wine in rhel5 actually i heared that through wine we can install microsoft product in linux .but i dont know whats the requirement for installing this. where can i get wine for rhel 5 kernal=2.6.18-8.e15 and how to install wine and whats the preprocedure before installing this wine.
we want to complete replace isa 2000 Microsoft by squid proxy server. the role of server is simple as regular proxy server. using rhel5, but when i enter into squid proxy world i found tons of parameters, and stuff to read. and optimization and performance tuning needed.
which is best suitable proxy squid, there is regular, transparent i need to define 2 rules, 1 for office hours internet let say 10 hours, 1 for 24 hours internet, where certain people comes in 10 hours and some in 24 hours group also can some one suggest is there any no GUI control from web broswer or linux machine itself we can define control access list?
I have a client how likes windows 2000, and office 2000. Her outlook box got too full and that totally killed outlook. Msft provides tools to fix this, but none of them work. I managed to switch her over to thunderbird, and I got the messages transferred over, but not the address book - only the email addresses transferred. I can not export outlook 2000 into office 2002, and I don't think office 2007 will work either. I have heard of transferring the addresses into outlook express, and then transferring to outlook. Will that work?
how to synchronize Microsoft Outlook with whatever office app of LINUX? What are the office solutions that are offered by linux or what can we compile?I have some CSV files from outlook but it is annoying to daily try to export those. How to synchronize the ubuntu machine, with for instance ethernet
I tried to install Microsoft Office 2007, but I get a program error "This program has encountered a serious problem and needs to close". Here is the wine log:
Code: fixme:ole:NdrCorrelationFree (0x18b9504): stub fixme:ole:NdrCorrelationInitialize (0x18b9504, 0x18b9104, 1024, 0x0): stub fixme:rpc:NdrStubCall2 new correlation description not implemented fixme:rpc:RpcImpersonateClient ((nil)): stub
how well does Microsoft Office 2007 work under WINE? My mother is a school teacher for younger children, so she really only needs Microsoft Office 2007 and a browser. For the life of me, I've never met anyone that gets more viruses and problems with her computer. So I'm wondering if I can switch her over to Linux and use Microsoft Office 2007 in WINE. OpenOffice isn't a possibility, I'm already pushing it asking her to learn how to use Linux. (I know it isn't hard, I use it myself, but she will fight to the death about using Microsoft Office) So how's Office in WINE?
I was checking out wine and installed ms office 2007 in it. But I ended up deciding (for the Windows programs that I needed to use, and the context in which I need them) to just install XP in a VirtualBox machine and use all my Windows programs there (not very many). So, I uninstalled wine and I did all of this that is recommended in the wine faq (to completely remove everything):
However, I now have an annoying issue. Microsoft office programs are the default opener of office documents. And since the programs no longer exist, this causes a problem. How can I remove the option to "Open With Microsoft Office ..." so that OpenOffice is the default?
When the custom animations added to my presentation exceeds an amount and i run the preview, my computer freezes. I have never had such problem with microsoft's office. I have open office 3.2 on ubuntu 10.04. my system has 4GB of of ram, core i5 430m cpu with integrated intel graphics. is this phenomenon natural? is it duo to my system limitations or it's an open office bug? what could i do now?
I am fairly new to using Ubuntu 10.10 or any other versions of Ubuntu. I recently downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 and opened it with Wine (read it was the best and easiest to use) after a few seconds I get an error message asking me to install msxml 6.10.1129.0, So I did some further research and found a bunch of links for download but from experience I did not attempt any as I know my PC can get infected. How to get Office on my PC.
1> are the flash exploits are of any use to a Linux operating system like Ubuntu etc. ? 2>are the Microsoft office exploits any risk to libreoffice or open-office software suites? 3>are there exploits for Linux , open-office and libreoffice ?

I have installed on my Ubuntu 10.10 OS via my laptop MS Office 2011 using wine.
The trouble that I am experiencing is that when trying to install MS Office 2003 to my Pc/ Non-laptop computer with Wine I keep getting the error if I double click setup.exe in the MS Office 2003 CD code...
I have seen many tutorials online but all of them require modifying .DLL's in Wine and none of them have worked so far.
I'm running Debian Squeeze (6.0.1) 64-bit and I'm trying to run Microsoft Office 2007 (due to formatting issues with OpenOffice) through Wine (version 1.0.1 from the repositories). I followed the instructions over here but when I try to run the setup I get an error box with the following message:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. And there are two button: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send". And the installation is aborted. Is there anyway to make this run?
I have Ubuntu 10.10 and Open Office 3.2.1. I guess that this problem may affect Libre Office too, but I will be happy to be proved wrong about that. I am editing a document that was originally produced in Microsoft Word (the standard .doc format). It is a form produced by a national organisation and it has to be sent back to them, and when submitted it has to be no longer than two A4 pages. It contains a series of headings and (expanding) text boxes for content.
In order to be sure about the length, I did most of the editing with Microsoft Word on my wife's laptop. On that machine, and on a PC that has a different version of Word, the document fits exactly within the two-page limit. But on my laptop, using Open Office, it appears considerably longer, taking up two-and-a-half pages. Why is this, and can anything be done to correct it? Open Office appears to be using the same fonts as Microsoft Word - the font names are the same, anyway - and the font sizes are the same, yet the text appears to take up more of the page display.
I'm a freelance science editor; I edit dissertations and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals primarily. My clients almost exclusively use Microsoft Word. Any word processing tool that I use has to be compatible with MS Word, particularly "Track Changes" version control. Has OpenOffice (or another open source word processing software) achieved this?
I've installed xUbuntu on a machine I will be using as a file server. Everything is fine except one thing. If the server suffers an improper shutdown such as a loss of power the next time the machine boots it gets to the GRUB2 boot menu and then waits for a keyboard input. As this machine runs headless with nothing connected other than a network cable and power lead and is tucked away under the stairs it's quite an inconvienience to go to the machine and plug in a keyboard so I can press enter. Is there some way I could force the machine to boot as normal without stopping at the menu ?
Everytime I try to install opensuse it locks up at the very finish, forcing me to force shutdown. Then when I try to boot up, it loads a horribly misconfigured view of another linux install. Anyone know what is going on? I posted here alsi: Opensuse install problems - linux-free-bsd-general-discussion - Linux-Free-BSD
i'm using Ubuntu in my office. I have to report two issues with network connectivity.1. Wireless doesn't work if come back after suspend/hibernate the computer. The work around I follow is,a. Turnoff the wifi and restart the computer. (It won't shutdown. have to do force using the power button)b. Reinstall the network-manager_0.8-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb and network-manager-gnome_0.8-0ubuntu3_amd64.debc. Restart the computer (Again it won't shutdown. Need force.)d. Now wifi will detect the networks and shutdown works fine hereafter.2. Sometimes the wired gets disconnect frequently (thrice in 2minutes). Physical connectivity is good and working well in Windows.
Two or three times on a daily basis it just freezes and I do not know why. For example, I am doing some minor coding, surfing the web and just some regular stuff and suddenly, out of nowhere, it just freezes. I cannot force reboot, cannot shutdown, cannot run, cannot enter terminal, nothing. Totally helpless. Only physical reboot do the work. Never had this issue before.
If I issue a shutdown -rF now, it will force e2fsck's on all the volumes when it reboots. But once the checks automatically finish, does it restart normally? I want to run e2fsck's on all my volumes, but dont want to stay the probably 5 hours it will run, so hoping someone knows for sure what happens.
