image is also present in the below link: Black or Corrupt UI Artifacts Under Wine - Ask Ubuntu - Stack Exchange i am running Opensuse Tumbleweed and my graphics is Intel. if it is a graphics driver problem, what can i do to correct this issue?
I tried to install Microsoft Office 2007, but I get a program error "This program has encountered a serious problem and needs to close". Here is the wine log:

how well does Microsoft Office 2007 work under WINE? My mother is a school teacher for younger children, so she really only needs Microsoft Office 2007 and a browser. For the life of me, I've never met anyone that gets more viruses and problems with her computer. So I'm wondering if I can switch her over to Linux and use Microsoft Office 2007 in WINE. OpenOffice isn't a possibility, I'm already pushing it asking her to learn how to use Linux. (I know it isn't hard, I use it myself, but she will fight to the death about using Microsoft Office) So how's Office in WINE?
My girlfriend of over a year recently bought a Toshiba laptop. Don't know much about it for I have not seen it myself. 3GB of RAM. Anyway, it's a Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. She has Microsoft Office 2007 pre-installed on it. Now, it's asking for a Product Key, which she does not have. Why? I don't know. I guess they didn't give her a box that has one on it, or something.
So, she sent Microsoft an e-mail and is now awaiting a reply. Anything that I can (LEGALLY) do to help her figure out the Product Key? She said there is one inputed (didn't think that was a word) in the dialog window asking for it, but it says that it's incorrect.
I'm running Debian Squeeze (6.0.1) 64-bit and I'm trying to run Microsoft Office 2007 (due to formatting issues with OpenOffice) through Wine (version 1.0.1 from the repositories). I followed the instructions over here but when I try to run the setup I get an error box with the following message:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. And there are two button: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send". And the installation is aborted. Is there anyway to make this run?
when i am trying to install microsoft office2007 in my fedora14 through wine, after 75% progress installation stops and an error message appears. "installation stops due to an unexpected error" but in any way i want to install it on fedora14. its a 'do or die 'condition so anybody can give me informations.
I noticed that the fonts for Office 2007 look shabby. I am not taking about anti-aliasing or subpixel hinting; but the general appearance of the applications in not even close to what I am used to in Windows. I'll show what I mean through some screen shots below. The text for different options in the ribbon looks awful. Compare this with windows and the text is clearly legible.
Same goes for the advanced options and other interfaces in Office 2007 under Wine. [URL]... when I type in some text in word, the default font (Calibri - Size 11) at 100% zoom looks awful. Here is the comparison of Linux with Windows7: [URL]... I would like to mention here that I have excellent font rendering in other native Linux applications like Firefox and Open Office. I know that users of Ubuntu and LinuxMint do not face this issue... I have seen many video and screenshots where the installation on Linux looks as good as that on Windows. Additionally, I was going through some of the treads on this forum and I realised this was an OpenSuse centric issue. Subpixel Hinting Packages (Ubuntu Lucid Patches) are now available for 11.3.
I've ran into something rather odd. I've installed wine and Office 2007. If I am to open a office 2003 (doc) or office 2007 (docx) file, it will open wine and office 2007 to edit the file. This is the desired behaviour. If I am to open an office 2003 (doc) file in firefox, openoffice will be opened. If I am to do the same with an office 2007 (docx) file, wine and office 2007 will open.where to start to get wine/office 2007 to open files from firefox?
Ms office 2007 works perfect in 10.10. I'm worried I won't get the same effect in 11.04. I only have an old netbook so I can't really test 11.04 in vb and I don't think I can properly install MS Office it to my usb drive live booting 11.04.
A few days ago I started an unattended install of MS office 2007 by mistake (didn't have the keyboard captured into a windows VM running at the time). For some reason the office installer didn't want to uninstall it and kept crashing even after trying various things to try and get it to uninstall it never did. I then deleted the .wine directory and uninstalled wine via synaptic which got rid of office but didn't get rid of the firefox problem that I'm having. Now whenever I download a word (.doc/.docx and I'm assuming other MS office files).
it tries to open in Microsoft office word which now longer exists on my system with no option to open the doc in OO which I would like it to do. I have been through most of the file extensions for office 2007 and managed to change them back to open in OO in gnome but firefox still thinks that office exists on the system even if a new FF profile is used. Any ideas to what it could be and how I change it back or will I have to reimage my system? Running ubuntu 10.04 amd64 with the stock version of open office.
i have successfully installed office 2007 on ubuntu 10.10 using "PlayOnLinux". I am now trying to activate my version of office, but when i get to the screen to type my code nothing is entered in the box i cant even get a blinking bar to appear in the box. I tryed just typing it in even though it did not appear (nothing happened)...ive tried disabling compiz and could not get it to work.
I just loaded office 2007 on my admin account, but when I switch users, I am unable to see the Office 2007 suite. The only thing i see is the Note pad under accessories.I have ubuntu 11.04.. Installed the latest version of Wine.I'm sure its a permission settings.
Today I installed office 2007 from a Microsoft office dvd using PlayOnLinux.I installed it successfully & I can see them in my repository but, when I tried to open word,Excel & all for some reason they are not opening.I tried to run them using PlayOnLinux but its of no use.
One of my classes refuses to use any program other than MS Word 2007 for lab reports, because the reports have to be submitted electronically and they want to use Word to make comments, etc. I tried suggesting Latex or Open Office, but nobody seems to want to cooperate. So, I've attempted to install MS Office 2007 through Wine 1.2 for Ubuntu 10.04. The problem I've having is that the applications (Word, Excel) will open, but the top portion of the software with all the menus and tool bars does not appear.
From my school I am able to get a free copy of Office 2007 via download. Now from the research I have done, it says that the best way to install Microsoft office is to use PlayonLinux. However, all the instructions I find on it is how to install it using a CD, whereas I will be getting it via a download not a CD. Can I still install it with PlayonLinux with the download? I'm guessing I would just point the PlayonLinux to where my downloaded file is, but I want to make sure before I order it. Also will its functionality be just as good as when its used on Windows. I ask, because even though I am a newbie to Linux, I am liking it and would like to completely switch. However, the copy of office from my school is more expansive than the one I currently have, so if it won't function as well I put my school copy on Windows, but if it does I'll use my school copy on my Linux since I will be eventually attempting to switch to it once I finish my course on Unix/Linux. By the way I have Fedora 14 for a 64 bit system, in case that effects anything.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and I really need Office 2007 so I tried Wine 1.1.31. After installing Wine, I used wintricks to get MSXML, VCRUN2005, then the installation started. Everything seemed fine with the installation, but when I tried to run PowerPoint, there was no response. I tried to run PowerPoint in terminal, then I got some error:
We started upgrading our office package to office 2007. No problems right off the bat, but all of a sudden there are excel files stored on our linux file server that people store and share. Some of them you can open and some of them you can not open and it doesn't give a reason you can't open them it just says can't open file anyfile.xls..I attached a word doc with pic of error in excel.
We have a system where users can upload files, and then various things happen depending on what kind file it is. The check uses the file command. But for Office 2007 files, the file command says it is a ZIP file.
These files are in fact ZIP files, I can unzip them, and then I get a lot of small weird files. We don't need to do anything about these files, but it's a problem when the system handles them as ZIP files. So I need some way of detecting these files, and not by file extension (.docx) since it is often incorrect. Many of the users are Macintosh users and they don't always use a file extension at all.
When I open a Word 2007 document using Open Office 3.1, the document is blank. I know OO 3.1 supports Word 2007 format. Any ideas why my document is blank in OO but when I open it in Word 2007 the text is there.
how to synchronize Microsoft Outlook with whatever office app of LINUX? What are the office solutions that are offered by linux or what can we compile?I have some CSV files from outlook but it is annoying to daily try to export those. How to synchronize the ubuntu machine, with for instance ethernet
I was checking out wine and installed ms office 2007 in it. But I ended up deciding (for the Windows programs that I needed to use, and the context in which I need them) to just install XP in a VirtualBox machine and use all my Windows programs there (not very many). So, I uninstalled wine and I did all of this that is recommended in the wine faq (to completely remove everything):
However, I now have an annoying issue. Microsoft office programs are the default opener of office documents. And since the programs no longer exist, this causes a problem. How can I remove the option to "Open With Microsoft Office ..." so that OpenOffice is the default?
I installed office 2000 CD using wine, I did this on Ubuntu net-book remix on a NC10 using a networked CD drive. So the installation went okay, I then came to using the software, word opened and promoted me for my product key, which I entered correctly the window disappeared for a second then repaired, I entered the key again but then this caused the whole program to shut down, I have tried repairing it , reinstalling it all apart from uninstalling and reinstalling it. Which I have tried and subsequently failed
Right I got it to work, so for any looking for the solutions simply go to /home/(username)/.wine/system.reg and change the user name and the organisation either delete it or enter something, I entered my user name but I left the organisation blank but I left the quote marks that were there. Save it and the product code thingy should not appear again.
