Because I can imagine some situations where this comes in verry handy.For example a script that executes gives login tab password enter and readies the next login for the next computer.This way I could just plug the flashdrive in, let type, plug it out and continue.

So when I am doing this gcc -g rand.c -lasound -li2cbrdg -o rand.I don't have missed functions instead I have some other C/C++ connected errors, when I am using g++ compiler like this g++ -g rand.c -lasound -li2cbrdg -o rand.it does not see functions inside that library but everything fine with c++ code.How can I make g++ behave like gcc in this case?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just set up NIC bonding in Ubuntu 10.4, following these instructions, and I've got it working except for one problem: Every time I up or down a network device, or every time the system reboots, my routes go all to hell with eth0 and eth1 entries next to my bond0 entries. When the eth0 and eth1 entries show up, my connection is hosed and I have to go in via the maintenance IP to kill each route one at a time, leaving only bond0. Here's how I want my routes to look at all times:

When I set "USB flash drive" as a first bootable device in BIOS, I get SYSLINUX "boot:" prompt and it loads both "vmlinuz" and "initrd.gz", but finally I end up in BusyBox prompt and following message:

If I have 20 files, each with a shared prefix, on pressing tab, zsh will fully complete the first file, then continue going through the list with each press of tab. If I want one near the end, I would have to press tab many times.
In bash, this was simple - press tab and I would get the prefix. If I continued typing (and pressing tab), bash would complete as far as it could be certain of. I find this behavior to be much more intuitive but prefer the other features of zsh to bash.
Is there a way to get this style of completion? Google suggested setopt bash_autolist, but this had no effect for me (and no error message was printed upon starting my shell).
In my corporate environment, I'm required to run a Windows machine that acquires a VNC session on a machine in the server farm. My windows machine is dual head with different resolution monitors ( 1600x1080 on left and 1920x1200 on right). If I create a VNC session that spans the monitors, then maximizing a window in the VNC session causes it to stretch across both my monitors.
Instead, I want a "maximize" event to behave like it does on my windows machine -- I only want to maximize to the display that the window is on.
How can I define what, what I'll call, "maximize regions"? Regions in the VNC graphical plane where when I click "maximize", the window only expands to the region it currently ( and mostly) resides in.
Can I do this in gnome, X, xrandr, or some other magical interface?
I made a persistent install of Ubuntu on a flash drive. I made changes to that installation. The software (Unetboontin) sets this all up. I think it partitions it for you. How do I image that flash drive to another flash drive?

View 3 Replies View RelatedBack in Febuary, my wife bought a Toshiba Satilite from Wal-Mart and a few days ago the hard drive got toasted. So now I'm using an 8gig usb drive as the boot drive. I also have 2 other flash drives for downloads and such but overall I am very pleased.
I'm running 11.04 32 bit and was wandering if 64 bit made a difference. I've got 4 gigs of ddr3. It's slow to boot, but once it's running, it's faster then Windows 7. Very nice.
Is there anything I should chage, use, since I'm running it off a flash drive??

I bought an 8GB flash drive because my D drive doesn't read DVDs. Anyway, my goal is to install Linux ubuntu and have it be my OS (replacing Windows XP). Last night I went to the Ubuntu homepage and downloaded the Ubuntu desktop edition 32-bit and put it on my flash drive. I followed the instructions on how to open and run it, but I was never asked about whether I want Linux to run side by side with Windows or if I want it to replace Windows. It downloaded the whole program, my computer restarted and then (on a black screen) it asked if I wanted to use Windows XP Home Edition or Linux Ubuntu. It's really frustrating because it took a while to download and install it in the first place AND to top that off, when I tried to use Ubuntu it went to a black screen and at the top said that there was an error. So I uninstalled all the ubuntu program and software and now I have a clean slate and want to try this again. I am a complete n00b. Could someone please walk me through how I can go about downloading (w/ links plz), installing and making ubuntu my ONLY OS on my computer via a flash drive? I'm desperate and I don't want to go through all of that and make the same mistake again!

However, when I insert it into the USB slot, the light on the drive glows, but I'm unable to mount the drive, neither does ubuntu detect it.I disconnected the flash drive, and then run `dmesg | tail`. The issue I've been having is with Flash on websites; most notably, Livestream's Flash-based browser viewer, and Adult Swim's flash-based games. Clicking works perfectly fine, but the keyboard input is entirely disabled for the Flash area. Text boxes, or game controls, won't respond at all, even when everything else is still working.The only way to input any text into Flash-based text boxes is to write it somewhere else (Firefox's URL or Search bar, or in GEDIT), then copy+paste into the tect box (again, Ctrl+V won't work, only right-clicking and pasting will go through).
I've tried multiple versions of the Adobe Flash player, including the installer directly from Adobe's site, the adobe-flashplugin package in Synaptic, the flashplugin-installer package, and I believe I tried GNASH as well (although I'm not sure if that did anything).I haven't had a chance to attempt to downgrade either one yet, however, nor have I been able to test another browser.I've seen a few other issues of this sort pop up here before, but they've all either gotten no solutions, or they're a year or two old, or they're running into 64-bit-specific issues. Hopefully this is posted in the correct location, and fingers crossed someone has an answer (or better yet, a solution).
I recently scapped XP Pro on an old laptop (Toshiba Portege 7220)as it was so slow and I installed Ubuntu 9.10 - All installed ok and it worked fine for about a month. Last week I switched on, got the Ubuntu splash screen and thats where it stayed. I gave lappy to a friend of mine that knows about Pc's (hahaha). When I got it back he said he'd wiped the HDD and partially installed xp. The install apparantly hung after the reformat and copying files onto it.My problem now is I can't boot from HDD, Ubuntu Live CD or Windows CD - Laptop is set to boot from cd then hdd.When I try to boot from CD, the cd is read as I hear the drive being used also see light for cd flashing, after a while i get a blank screen with flashing cursor in top left corner and the cd stops.If I remove the HDD and put it in external usb caddy I can see the windows folders/files when plugged into my desk top.My questions are :-
1. Is there any way to make the drive reusable as a internal drive again as I know it works as an external drive.I would like to reinstall Ubuntu on it
2. Is it a fault with the laptop itself - how do I check
I'm just wondering if there is a way to keep the flash plugin from stealing the keyboard focus. This way firefox's shortcuts can be used regardless of what type of content is in the window.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running suse 11.4 64bit and flash 11.0.1.60 My problem is that when I'm running flash if I give some keyboard input then my mouse (and only my mouse from what I can tell) will freeze for a second or so. This is most annoying when I'm goofing off playing a flash game that requires both keyboard and mouse inputs, since if I use the keyboard for anything I can't use the mouse for a second or so.I've tried searching the forums but I can't seem to find anything on this topic.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 6+2 disk RAID5 array. If I do mdadm --detail, it shows me 6 active, working 8, failed 0 and spare 2, as expected. However, in Disk Utility, it tells me I have two arrays, the one I expect, but with 6+1; and another with no disks. When I look through my disks, I see there's one which is 'different'. While I had made all my 8 disks partition-less, this one seems to have developed a partition somehow - "Linux RAID autodetect". Also, when I click on 'Go to array', it takes me to this other odd diskless array.
How can I get my disks to behave themselves?
(Also, I think these disks seem to move around devices for some reason).
some days ago I upgraded my 10.04 Ubuntu to 10.10. Upgrading took quite some time as I had already witnessed in previous upgrades. Everything seems to work fine after this operation but for the Grub. I can no longer set the timer! It means I have to manually push "Enter" to start booting. I also noted that I cannot change the font size of the Grub any longer. I have not seen such behaviour during previous upgrades (I started upgrading with U 9.04).

I'm really sick of not being able to ctrl+l or ctrl+tab just because I'm watching a video, and today a video froze in fullscreen mode and I couldn't even ctrl+f1 to any terminals or ctrl+backspace to kill KDE. It would be awesome to stop flash from grabbing certain key commands and pass them to the browser or OS instead.

At this point I am using an external keyboard, but since it's a laptop and I am using it at school, that is not what one would wish for. So, my question is; is there any way which will allow me to use the Keyboard Shortcuts to make a shortcut which will for example use ALT+Ctrl+<button> to write the letter A?
My second question is; Do anyone know what has happened with what I will describe in the following text; or perhaps recognice the problem and a solution? One of my friends has installed XUbuntu on his netbook. It has been running just fine; and for a while after he upgraded to 9.10, his computer went somewhat broke. It boots up fine, and it loads the login screen; but instead of being able to log in, it switches to a terminal. We have tried using it to log in, but as none of us are any good with the terminal we have not succeeded.
I want to disable the CAPS LOCK key and replace it by pressing SHIFT twice in quick successions (like you do in Android and iOS devices). Disabling the Caps Lock key is easy using xmodmap but is it possible to do what I want to do with the SHIFT key?

For example, if I am in a text editor and press "ctrl+alt+q", I would like it to type some predetermined string to the page. On Windows, AutoHotKey does this. I can't seem to get it working in gnome, though.
I have installed lineakd, and I have a file ~/.scripts/type.sh that looks like:

I have the command sh ~/.scripts/type.sh set to the key combination I want in system->preferences->keyboard-shortcuts.
I'm sure I'm not using xsendkeys correctly, but couldn't find much documentation on it. Anybody know how xsendkeys works or how I might solve this problem another way?
After a while away from Linux, I recently installed Ubuntu 10.4 on my home PC. Here is the problem: The terminal STINKS in general. Unfortunately, it appears that nothing has changed in the last 3 years in this particular area. I remember now that the terminal (keyboard mappings, colors) was one of the reasons I went with Fedora for my home PC a few years ago.
Short question: WHY is Ubuntu's so different, and why hasn't it been improved? I have a standard 104-key keyboard, yet when I try to edit with VI, the arrow keys don't map properly. You'd think that user feedback alone would have fixed this over 3 years time. Anyhow, how do I fix it?
The white background, minimal color terminal isn't very good. But I really need help getting the various keys (delete, home, end, arrow keys) to map properly. I went with Ubuntu because it seemed to be more ready "out of the box" and I don't need cutting edge like Fedora offers. I wanted more stability, etc.
