In Konqueror, when browsing files the display would open in the "Advanced Embedded Text Editor" which was really handy. In Dolphin it
opens in Kate (KWrite by default but I changed it.) Is there a way to make Dolphin behave like Konqueror?
I'm using opensuse 11.4 64 bits on an amd 3 kernel. One day it's working fine and the following i't works all fine except konqueror and dolphin. When i try to open them it seem to be frozen (the application, not the system), but in the end they open after 3-4 minutes. Then they work well, but if i close them and open again, or if i open another window I have the same problem. Othe applications (for example firefox) launch quickly.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to 11.3 I don't see that the View > Preview mode is broken. Image icons are created, but they all look like the icons in the picture below. When I move the zoom slider the largest sized icons come out fine. Anyone an idea how to solve this problem? Is there any repository that I can use to get more recent versions that should have fixed these bugs? I just noticed that PNG images come out right, so it could be something related to JPG files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using KDE4 for some time now as a test and have noticed what at first seems to be a major omission. There is no way to run dolphin or konqueror as root. Old style KDE3 in SLackware 12 had the "root konqueror" option, (or whatever it was named in the KDE menus), but KDE4 doesn't have this. I tried adding a new menu itme in KDE4 to run dolphin as root but it had odd errors about "could not start process" and "could not to talk to klauncher" - it would not display any files from my directory. Konqueror had similar odd problems - something about klauncher and Dbus server. This is a pain as there are sometimes files I wish to move/delete which I need to be root to do and it would be nice to have a gui to do this.
Anyone got any quick ways (from KDE) of achieving this or setting up a KDE menu item to run a file manager (dolphin/konqueror) as root ? I don't always want to have to run "su -c mc" in a terminal to do admin stuff in the filesystem and I don't want to run KDE as root.
How do I switch from Dolphin to Konqueror in Linux Mint 9 KDE? I'd like to make Konqueror the default File Manager.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI really prefer Konqueror to Dolphin, but as it is I have six external harddrives that are connected to my computer, and Dolphin has that sidebar that shows all connected storage devices and you can go straight into them by choosing one. This is the sole feature that keeps me using Dolphin, because I use it constantly. Does Konqueror have a similar feature? If it has something thats even remotely close to that sidebar, I'd switch over in a heartbeat. I looked through all the options I could find but didn't see it anywhere.

I just set up NIC bonding in Ubuntu 10.4, following these instructions, and I've got it working except for one problem: Every time I up or down a network device, or every time the system reboots, my routes go all to hell with eth0 and eth1 entries next to my bond0 entries. When the eth0 and eth1 entries show up, my connection is hosed and I have to go in via the maintenance IP to kill each route one at a time, leaving only bond0. Here's how I want my routes to look at all times:

possible to make a flashdrive behave like keyboard. I recon there must be some good reasons not to. Because I can imagine some situations where this comes in verry handy.For example a script that executes gives login tab password enter and readies the next login for the next computer.This way I could just plug the flashdrive in, let type, plug it out and continue.

It works great except for one thing: When I open Dolphin in superuser mode and change the permissions to make myself the owner of those folders, the change doesn't take. Is there a special trick to it?GEFPS: I plan to use openSUSE as my main OS, but it's easier to keep my data on the NTFS partition, because Linux speaksindows better than than Windows speaks Linux. If I have 20 files, each with a shared prefix, on pressing tab, zsh will fully complete the first file, then continue going through the list with each press of tab. If I want one near the end, I would have to press tab many times.
In bash, this was simple - press tab and I would get the prefix. If I continued typing (and pressing tab), bash would complete as far as it could be certain of. I find this behavior to be much more intuitive but prefer the other features of zsh to bash.
Is there a way to get this style of completion? Google suggested setopt bash_autolist, but this had no effect for me (and no error message was printed upon starting my shell).
I've finally got Konqueror working well enough to uninstall Firefox. The problem has been KHTML, which has big problems rendering modern web content with heavy scripting. a team of developers has been working on creating a webkit rendering engine as a modular Kpart for Konqueror. Kwebkit will probably be included with KDE 4.6, but for the moment it's something you have to install yourself. Here's what I did. First of all, these steps were all performed on a -current64 box with Alien Bob's KDE 4.5.3 package [URL] installed. I started out by installing kwebkitpart using the package available here: [URL]
At this point you can use kwebkit by launching Konqueror, going into View > View Mode and selecting Kwebkit. Trouble is, it's not going to be stable... Konqueror will crash constantly. In order to achieve stability you have to install QT4.7 or higher.
You can get the latest QT (4.7.1) here: [URL] You don't need the complete development environment; just get the framework. I'm assuming here that you have the Slackware source tree somewhere on your hard drive (mine is in /opt). You'll find QT in the /l directory. Save the existing source code somewhere else and put the code you just downloaded in it's place. Because the new source code has a different name you'll have to modify the script accordingly. I modified this line:

It took a long time. After it builds you can go into pkgtool and uninstall the previous version of qt. Then reboot your box. I rebooted into init 3 so I'd have a working terminal if something went wrong with the new version of qt. But no prob; I booted into the terminal, logged in, startx and no sweat.

Each time I pass with a cursor over a widget on the desktop its side bar appears, of course it should because of resizing and moving or do some setting, but that is very boring if I do not intend to use that bar. Screenlets behave better, the setting menu appear only with proper clicking. Is there a way to manage jumping widget menu bar not to appear on every cursor passing ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed openSuse 11.4 64bit with KDE 4.6 and that's when the trouble started. If I put a data or mp3 cd in the drive it can be mounted. Simple audio cds refuse to mount, giving me only the option to play on one of the audio players. Since I wanted to move some music to the computer I've had to resort to windows to copy files then transfer them. How can I force KDE/Suse to behave the way I want or do I have to revert to an earlier version with KDE3.5? I suspected that System Settings/Removable Devices was where I needed to be but nothing I did worked. So then I tried playing with System Settings/Device Actions and again nothing seemed to work. I can't mount the CD manually,I get this (using su -c "mount etc"

In my corporate environment, I'm required to run a Windows machine that acquires a VNC session on a machine in the server farm. My windows machine is dual head with different resolution monitors ( 1600x1080 on left and 1920x1200 on right). If I create a VNC session that spans the monitors, then maximizing a window in the VNC session causes it to stretch across both my monitors.
Instead, I want a "maximize" event to behave like it does on my windows machine -- I only want to maximize to the display that the window is on.
How can I define what, what I'll call, "maximize regions"? Regions in the VNC graphical plane where when I click "maximize", the window only expands to the region it currently ( and mostly) resides in.
Can I do this in gnome, X, xrandr, or some other magical interface?
I have installed dolphin in ubuntu 9.04 but whenever I click on a folder it opens with nautilus file-manager. I found no option in the folder properties for making dolphin the default file-manager !

I searched for this issue on the web and found among others this:[URL].. I downgraded Flash to 10.0.45xxx and it seems like Konqueror runs fine with webkit now. However I now got this message browsing Hattrick.org:
icedteanp plugin error: Failed to run /etc/alternatives/../../bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window. This error only occur when using webkit, not with KHTML.
I have the following problem with konqueror. Eveytime when I am trying to enter https://localhost:10000 (this is webmin) or https://localhost:631, konqueror asks me in a popup the following (translated from german):
"The authentification of the server has failed.The certificate does not suite to the server. The certificate has not been signed by a trustable authentification authority"
Then I press "continue". Then the next popup appears asking me: "Do you want to always accept this certificate without any request" And the possible buttons are "always" or "only this session". The problem is that I always press on "always" but obviously konqueror is not remembering this certificate since I have to press all the buttons a hundred times in the ongoing session and every new session. In firefox, I was only asked once and the certificate was stored in list. Does anyone know how to fix this problem in konqueror??
Has anyone had any joy with the above combination? I had the current beta and the square flash versions working fine but when I changed the konqueror engine to webkit I can't get ..... to work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can use Konqueror to browse my filesystem but not the web. One of two things happens: 1) Either it just crashes, or 2) it displays an "Operation could not be completed" error page. The former occurs if I type something into the address bar that may require some guesswork, like yahoo.com, and in this case I may get a chance to restart the session. The latter occurs if I type a complete url like [URL]... or if I type a term in the google search box. It suggests disabling the firewall; I have, to no avail. Same thing happens with rekonq but not with epiphany or firefox or chrome. I use openSUSE 11.4 with KDE 4.7. This problem occurred after upgrading to 4.7 - not sure if it was immediate upon upgrade - but before recent issues with the R47 repo. Of course, hoping to fix Konqueror, I updated all of my R47 packages and got caught up in the black screen problem, but now that's resolved and Konqueror still crashes.
I like Chrome but want Konqueror as a backup, no need to install other browsers as long as it works, but I suppose that's the alternative. Downgrading Konqueror would downgrade its library and dolphin as well; I'd rather avoid that, as I had a weird issue with my mouse getting "trapped" in an app in 4.6 - I could still work inside that app, but clicks did not register in other apps or plasma generally, such as the start menu or the "x" button to close the app in question on its own window decoration. This issue has not recurred in 4.7, so I'd rather keep the version than keep Konqueror if it comes to that.
I am running OpenSuse 11.1 with KDE 4.3.1 updated. If I am open a terminal and type in
kfmclient openURL $HOME; my konqueror does not open in normal explorer like mode instead it's open the FSview (FileSizeView) mode. Where can I change this behavior?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a strange effect here, where konqueror is started multiple times. It is no problem to start it from the K-Menu. But konqueror seems to be associated with different actions in applications, e.g. many "help" entries; among others e.g. Inkscape: "Hilfe/Inkscape Handbuch" (~ Help/Inkscape handbook") If I'm unfortunate enough to hit such an item, the konqueror items start flooding my task bar, while the mouse cursor - changed to the konqueror icon - is flickering like wild, while konqueror is starting again and again. None of the windows really open and all icons disappear after some time. (due to some resource overflow, but unfortunately I can't find the relevant log entry this time) How can I prevent this ? (Or debug this, if the cause is unclear)
View 7 Replies View RelatedKonqueror opens in full screen every time which is more a nuance than an issue, I just haven't had time to search why; I'm seeing if anyone else has this issue or knows the preset to change how K. starts up. I don't use Konqueror enough. I can right click to take it off full screen mode, but for who ever else who uses it, it can be a nuance.
I also have this same issue with Thunderbird, but I can't get it out of full screen mode there is no menu bar up top to reduce, minimize or close out.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have developed an audio problem; although continue to get sound with kaffeine and aamrok, firefox recently quit playing sound; no software updates were performed, it just quit. It has always been buggy, like audio would cut out if another program tried to play a sound and firefox and/or aamrok would have to be restarted. this is different though, it's nothing to do with a conflict it just doesn't work. It won't play sound from flash videos from the internet or locally but I can see the vids, and it won't play mp3's (these both will play fine with aamrok or kaffeine). It worked fine until all of a sudden, Also, konqueror is exhibiting the same behavior as firefox, and it too used to play sound just fine.
I have already used yast to update anything to do with "codec" "xine" "flash" and "firefox"
