I just reinstalled from scratch the new Ubuntu 11.04, and now I would like to copy in single evolution files with my profile etc.. from a back up. The problem is that such files are not visible on the graphic view, and I dont' want to go on the terminal.
Does anybody know how to make all files visible under "/home/<my login>/.evolution?
I recently switched from Ubuntu to Kubuntu (fresh install of the OS, not just installing KDE), and I'm more than a little lost. When I download files to the desktop, they don't appear on the Desktop. I can see that they're in /home/andrew/Desktop through Dolphin, but the icons just aren't there. I was able to successfully put an icon for Firefox, but the icons for these files just aren't showing up. I can't help but think it might just be due to a setting, but for the life of me I absolutely can't find it and I've been googling to no avail. how to make files visible on the desktop?

I downloaded Ubuntu Server. I absolutely love it. It is easy to set up and I've already learned alot while doing so.
Now, I want to get a bit further. I want my Ubuntu Server to be accessible from the internet, so I can access my files and webpages from everywhere.
Everything works locally, but I don't have any clue to maken it visible for WAN. Is everything from here set in the router settings? Or will I also have to make adjustments in the Server's settings?
i cant seem to find an option for this. im trying out mint and want to play music and videos but they are on a USB which i cant access.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot with ubuntu 10.04 (ext4) and ubuntu 9.04 (ext3).On 10.04 I accidentally deleted a whole bunch of files with the rm command. I installed extundelete in 9.04 which can undelete from ext4 file systems. However, I can't access my 10.04 home directory in 9.04, as /media/disk/home/asdf is empty except for two files README.txt and Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop. I didn't delete all of it for sure.
Does anyone know how to make my 10.04 home directory visible in 9.04 so I can undelete?
Today I noticed that I cannot enable visual effects on my computer. When I try to enable them, the screen flickers, enables the effects for just a moment, then flickers back to the previous screen with a dialogue box that says "visual effects could not be enabled". This is very strange because I was able to enable them when I first installed Ubuntu (in fact, I ran the "extra" visual effects for a while until I decided that it slowed my computer down too much). I don't know if it is possible that this has something to do with the most recent updates?
I'm not sure exactly what graphics card I have, but it is an ATI Radeon of some sort.
I am going back to Windows for good. All I need to know is what are the partitions settings so that it will be reconized able in windows. I planning on saving some of my songs and other media that I have collected but I dont want loss all of on some wasted space that isnt readable. So simply put what setting are needed to make a partition visible in windows 7 using gparted.

hello guys, i had a problem regarding my network icon missing. two days a go it just work fine and I'm using this desktop pc almost 6 months with no problem.just yesterday the network icon suddenly disappear.I've put the notification area it doesn't solved my problem. well this is odd, because when I go to the terminal and "nm-applet" their the network icon appears from where it is and became visible BUT when I close the terminal/terminate the terminal it disappears. I'm trying to install Ubuntu (or lubuntu) to this old Powerbook [URL] with 400mhz PPC CPU. I got it instslled and can use the terminal, but can't get the xserver running! The problem is the display is verey sensitiv with correct resulution and frequency, if it is not OK, it will not show enything (well, some colors like northern lights but nothing else ) I can login using the keyboard and hear the logon sound of gnome. but of cause i cant see anything I got no external monitor for testing.

It works if i go to "http://192.168.1.194/" with the browser of the computer with apache inside, but on the others PC of my networking this method don't work!

I installed Ubuntu 10.4 today because my Windows laptop got a nasty program from some forward from a "friend." I couldn't do anything on my computer, so I installed Ubuntu over the Windows XP. (erased hard drive, complete install). Everything is great except now my wife can't print to the printers on my computer. In fact, my computer w/Ubuntu can "see" everything on her computer, but her computer can't "see" mine or the printers on it. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've a problem with some downloaded files with Transmission. I use Transmission for downloading torrent files since I have installed Hardy Heron. Everything was ok. Last week I downloaded 25 GiB of files (dance videos, music and so on....) in my external hd. On sunday I try to move some of them in a dvd. As always I open Brasero and I search for them in my external hd: nothing. They don't exist in the destination folder, the same in 2 years with ubuntu, that I called "incoming Transmission".
So, I made some checks:
First:
- in Transmission -> right click on one of the downloaded, bright green and "invisible" file -> details -> informations -> position -> /media/hdext/incoming Transmission
Second:
- in pc Resources -> search file -> name of the same file inside /media/hdext/incoming Transmission...... Here it is!!!
Third:
- in the folder tree I mark "view hidden files": nothing! they're invisible!!!
If I open directly the destination folder I can't see them! In these days I continue to download other files, and everything goes on right.
OK I am windows 7 user trying to update my old Dell M65 (more for educational purposes than anything else) I have tried several flavors of Linux. I've tried PCLinux OS and was OK but would not boot 30% of the time and had an edgy feel to it. So now I'm trying Ubuntu. I down loaded and boot to the CD. Nice. No network. No wireless. Could not find any kind of "Control Panel" to view system settings or hardware or add hardware. Found "Hardware Driver" and clicked wireless card driver and got to the internet. OK! Looks good, feels good, let's try it.
I installed it to the hard drive and seemed OK but no net work again. Went to "Hardware Driver" and no drivers are listed. Now what I do. I'm sure the driver is on the CD but how do I install it? I can't even tell Umbuntu I have a problem.
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says

There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power.It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector.The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?

My question is: what is an easy way to view all of these HTML files? I know on Ruby you can run gem-server and you can see all of your RDocs from localhost on your browser. Is there an equivalent to that on Ubuntu for gtk-doc?
