The install and setup of VirtualBox is good and working.
I'm having a perplexing issue with usb devices. I have three usb devices connected to my system - apc battery, sd carder, and a Logitech joystick. All devices work on the host. I can connect the apc and the card reader to the guest and they work perfectly. But not the Logitech joystick. I get this error, same as I've seen in some other threads:
Failed to attach the USB device Logitech Force 3D Pro [0600] to the virtual machine winxp1. Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_READ_ERROR)

When I installed I modified my fstb:
Code:

I downloaded Ubuntu Server. I absolutely love it. It is easy to set up and I've already learned alot while doing so.
Now, I want to get a bit further. I want my Ubuntu Server to be accessible from the internet, so I can access my files and webpages from everywhere.
Everything works locally, but I don't have any clue to maken it visible for WAN. Is everything from here set in the router settings? Or will I also have to make adjustments in the Server's settings?
I'm using VirtualBox PUEL and have enabled the USB controller (including EHCI) on a XP VM and have added filters for the devices I want to pass through. Unfortunately the entries in the menu listing the USB devices are greyed out. Running VirtualBox as root has them enabled but the VM doesn't boot past the menu you get when you press the F8 key on startup.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from Ubuntu to Kubuntu (fresh install of the OS, not just installing KDE), and I'm more than a little lost. When I download files to the desktop, they don't appear on the Desktop. I can see that they're in /home/andrew/Desktop through Dolphin, but the icons just aren't there. I was able to successfully put an icon for Firefox, but the icons for these files just aren't showing up. I can't help but think it might just be due to a setting, but for the life of me I absolutely can't find it and I've been googling to no avail. how to make files visible on the desktop?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot with ubuntu 10.04 (ext4) and ubuntu 9.04 (ext3).On 10.04 I accidentally deleted a whole bunch of files with the rm command. I installed extundelete in 9.04 which can undelete from ext4 file systems. However, I can't access my 10.04 home directory in 9.04, as /media/disk/home/asdf is empty except for two files README.txt and Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop. I didn't delete all of it for sure.
Does anyone know how to make my 10.04 home directory visible in 9.04 so I can undelete?
Today I noticed that I cannot enable visual effects on my computer. When I try to enable them, the screen flickers, enables the effects for just a moment, then flickers back to the previous screen with a dialogue box that says "visual effects could not be enabled". This is very strange because I was able to enable them when I first installed Ubuntu (in fact, I ran the "extra" visual effects for a while until I decided that it slowed my computer down too much). I don't know if it is possible that this has something to do with the most recent updates?
I'm not sure exactly what graphics card I have, but it is an ATI Radeon of some sort.
I am going back to Windows for good. All I need to know is what are the partitions settings so that it will be reconized able in windows. I planning on saving some of my songs and other media that I have collected but I dont want loss all of on some wasted space that isnt readable. So simply put what setting are needed to make a partition visible in windows 7 using gparted.

In first place i am sorry about my horrible English. I want to make a web site with a virtual host of apache visible by all the computers connected to my networking. I put this in the end of the file "/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf"("192.168.1.194" is the IP address of my computer. The default gateway IP address is "192.168.1.1"):

It works if i go to "http://192.168.1.194/" with the browser of the computer with apache inside, but on the others PC of my networking this method don't work!

I installed Ubuntu 10.4 today because my Windows laptop got a nasty program from some forward from a "friend." I couldn't do anything on my computer, so I installed Ubuntu over the Windows XP. (erased hard drive, complete install). Everything is great except now my wife can't print to the printers on my computer. In fact, my computer w/Ubuntu can "see" everything on her computer, but her computer can't "see" mine or the printers on it. How do I make my Ubuntu computer visible to a Windows computer on the home (MSHOME) network?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says
Current usage: Unknown
There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power. It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector. The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?
I cannot make Virtualbox work in Ubuntu 10.04 (upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04). I tried both to install Virtualbox OSE from Package Manager and Virtualbox 3.2 downloaded from the Virtualbox site (32 bits version, as my OS). Installation is OK, but when I try to run it, I get an error message:
Error in home. virtualbox.xml (line3) cannot handle settings version 1.2-linux. Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (080004005). Virtualbox would be good because it allows running some Windows applications or games. Wine seems useless, only a couple of applications run in Wine and practically no games. It keeps warning me about DirectX etc. I can't understand why Wine exists at all.
How do I can do to make the virtual machine with virtualbox has more sound?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a server and noticed that the to RAID5 setup is showing 4 Raid devices but only 3 Total devices. It's on a fully updated CentOS 5 system that only has three SATA drives, as it can not hold anymore. I've done some researching but am unable to remove the fourth device, which is listed as removed. The full output of `mdadm -D /dev/md2` can be see below. I've never run into this situation before.Anyone have any pointers on how I can reduced the Raid Devices from 4 to 3? I have tried
mdadm /dev/md2 -r failed
mdadm /dev/md2 -r detached
but neither work and since there is no block device listed I'm not quite sure how to get things back in sync so it's only seeing the three drives.

I was trying to install VirtualBox through the YaST > Software Management but it is not working, someone in the forum told me that I have to download the OSE version and do it manual way. Finally I am able to start up VB but not able to use the network connection. Thus I am trying to do this:
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup. I get this error:

When I type dmesg, it shows me a bunch of info which I don't know what should look for. When I type modprobe vboxnetflt, I get the error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-default/updates/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format. what should I do in order to get my VB to be able to connect to the internet?
I have installed Ubuntu for a friend and find that on that installation Audio CD's are not automatically visible.
Data CD's appear fine and audio CDs are visible with some software (e.g. with RipperX) but they are not visible in the file system and cannot be played directly (e.g. with RythmBox).
With my installation of Ubuntu (also 10.4), as soon as I insert an audio-CD, I am prompted as to whether I want to open the CD with RythmBox. This does not happen with the other installation.
Does anyone have any tips here? Do audio-CD's demand that a certain package is installed for them to be visible/playable?
PS: I have recently changed the DVD-drive to a CD-drive. Do I need to re-declare the drive parameters?
I have a folder on a fat32 partition that is mounted in both os's on my system.(Ubuntu 10.4 and Win 7) When I go to windows 7 the partion is mounted but I can not find the Music Folder on the drive. When i have it booted in linux I have access to the Music folder. The last change on my system I made was I ran edna-0.6 for a day so I could stream the contents of the folder. I need to figure out how to get access to these in windows again.
