Ubuntu :: Mail - Minimize Or Have The Notifications Show Even With The Program Closed?
Feb 17, 2010
I know I've probably should've searched a little harder than what I already did but... If evolution mail is closed, I get no notifications... How can I minimize this to the tray, or have the notifications show even with the program closed?
I use pidgin for IRC regularly and am wondering if there is a way for it to show notifications when others talk?
I have "others talk in chat" selected for the sound notifications, but I'd really like it to use the visual notifications (the notification applet?), like it does when I'm chatting with someone over IM. Is that possible?
Can ossec be run from ubuntu with less notifications to mail only intrusions. i really dont wish to be notified of every single thing that goes on in my system. i only want to be notified of intrusions and anything else that would be of serious concern. can anyone tell me what setting i can do to achieve the goal in mind ?
I'm using Evolution in KDE and everything's working well except for the notifications (calendar and new mail particularly). I'm guessing those are in different packages? how to get these running? Oh and one more thing, regardless of my default browser, evolution opens things up in rekonq by default. How might I get this working for firefox?
Is there a way to get an account on Pidgin, say an MSN account that has the option to display email notifications checked, to open a selected email client such as Evolution or Thunderbird instead of opening Hotmail in a tab in Firefox?
I've been wondering about how I can change settings on the notifications that show on the screen when a wireless connection is established, when I get new mail, etc. They look a lot like growl notifications from OSX, but clicking on them doesn't show me anything. If someone could explain a little about what they are/do
How can I set the hot key of Super > "D" to minimize all open windows and show the desktop. I used that feature all the time in Windows. I use compiz too.
Ubuntu 10.04 has the new indicator applet for the gnome panel. in it there is this very handy mail indicator working as launcher for empathy, evolution and pidgin (if installed), holds your currently opened conversations and shows when a new mail arrives.but this mail checking is only done when evolution is opened.now my question: is there a way to minimize evolution to the indicator mail applet? i don't want to have a new tray icon, the mail indicator icon works fine. i want evolution to stay away from my taskbar but still checking for my mails.
I need to find out why one server doesn't accept mail from my server. Mail isn't delivered and isn't bounced.Usualy it's easy to find in mail log files, but not in my new server. I just checked mail log files and discovered there is no information for each email sent from my server.
All log files: mail.log mail.err mail.info mail.warn
I am running firefox, and when I minimize a programme I "lose" it completely in the bottom right hand corner of my screen and unable to re-call. Have i fiddled with something to create this stupid error.
I am running the NBR using the Gnome interface, instead of the default netbook interface, but the problem happens even if I switch back to the default.Whenever I click on the MINIMIZE to desktop [v] button, the program abends (i.e. it disapppears, is NOT visible mimimized to the desktop, nor shows in the task bar or lower panel. The default buttons are in order of placement are:x [close], v (downward pointing arrowhead)[minimize to desktop] and [^ / ] (upward pointing arrowhead / square) [minimize /maximize]. I realise that on a small netbook screen such as my Asus EEE 1000 PC one might easily click on the "close" (x) button my mistake.
However, I UORPOSELY click on the down arrow button, and the current program / window disappears completely. As per my description above, I cannot find the application, so I have to relaunch it from the program menu. If it had been minimized, the system would inform me that the program was already running. Since it does not, it is a safe assumption and statement to say that the application / window / program has abendedMy only workaround is to adjust the maximixe size of the window using the rightmost button (downward arrow head = smaller window, square = fully maximized).
I am looking to play a simple sound effect as an event notification in a C program I am working on, but want to do it as simply and easily as possible. Portability is of no concern (this is a Linux-only application) nor is the format of the audio file (the file will be bundled with the application, so I can make the format whatever is necessary). The simplest way seems to be just calling "aplay" from within my program, but I am not sure if this is really a safe approach or not. Is this is a reasonable enough solution for a simple task like this? Other than the program not existing on the host OS (which obviously I would check for on execution), are there any other pitfalls?
I am able to copy mails from another account to the account on my server. But I've got no clue of where dovecot stores them. Not in /var/mail I've checked..
This happened after I re-installed with a 9.10 Ubuntu Server disc.
Ever since I upgraded to 10.10 my Indicator Applet will no longer notify me of new mail. I'm not sure if this is an issue caused by the update of Ubuntu or Evolution.
I've tried removing and adding it again, but no luck. Anyone else having this problem or have a fix?
I have noticed that when I get a new email, it never shows a new mail icon in the panel. I had the same problem with 9.10, and I thought the problem would go away when I upgraded to 10.4.
I have checked the properties in Mail preferences:
Code: Play sound - yes Display a notification - yes Indicate new messages in panel - yes
user can not see the correct file attachment in web mail which showed "winmail.dat" but works fine after downloaded to outlook. and the email is sent from microsoft outlook in "HTML" format(not RTF format). Any one could give me a solution figure it out, because there is quite a lot of user in my company have to use web mail and got this winmail.dat problem
My PC has an Nvidea 9800GT graphics card. Both my monitor and my HDTV are connected to the card. I have configured both my monitor and my HDTV to my computer. The monitor is screen 0. The TV is screen 1. Everything is normal on screen 0. The desktop background shows on both screens.
How do I start an application on my TV? When I drag a window from my monitorto my TV, the window disappears,
I install Lotus Notes 8.0.1 on Karmic Ubuntu 9.10, the setup is successfully. However, the mail could not show correctly. the Home shows blank. The mail address could not show for each mail. And some html mail could not show at all.Below are the console output.
05/03/2010 03:42:49 PM Lotus Notes client started 2010/05/03 15:43:15.532 SEVERE err.csilabelprovider.fetchimage.exception ::class.method=com.ibm.rcp.csiviews.providers.CSIL abelProvider$1.run() ::thread=Worker-5 ::loggername=com.ibm.rcp.csiviews.providers.CSILab elProvider
Simply doesn't start. Brings up the main mail window, doesn't show any mail folders, and doesn't respond to any key presses or mouse clicks.
Other users on the same PC have no problems, so it must be user specific. Some sort of config problem I guess. But where ? This particular user has over 500Mb of mail in folders.
I've tried two seperate downloads of the 9.10 installation media with the same results, I can't get to the installer. Each time I've tried it boots into the livecd portion. So how do I install this thing? I've even tried from the System/Administration/"Install Ubuntu 9.10" option on the livecd top menu, but get an error: "Sorry the program "ubiquity" closed unexpectedly" there is nothing that explains the installer not running in either dmesg or /var/log/messages. If the livecd can boot, why does the installer not load. I am selecting the "Install Ubuntu" option not the try it without installing option.
I currently have Evolution 2.24.5 on Fedora 10, but I'm not happy with Evolution. I can't update to 2.30.1. So, Is there a better mail program, ie Thunderbird or SeaMonkey?
So, after over 10 years, I'm ditching KMail. I just can't take Akonadi anymore. After a few hours of running, it just sucks the life out of my system. If I need to run Akonadi to run KMail, then I'm done with Kmail. So, I've got 10+ years of mail stored in maildir format, and I need a new mail program. I'd like to stick with something KDE friendly if possible, but I'll take what I can get.
How is it possible to send email using the "mail" program? I tried: echo "testing" | mail -s "test" myaddress@gmail.com But nothing happened. I made sure that the sendmail daemon was running before I tried. Is there anything else that I have to set up first?
I use Thunderbird. I find that without using a ton of plugins I can not get Thunderbird to do remotely close to what Outlook does out of the box. Truth be told the Microsoft Office suite is a really good suite of products, especially Outlook and it's integration with Word. I hate how is Thunderbird you have to have a plugin to have a calendar, and then being able to schedule appointments with people is a whole other project.
Also if you Forward an email it just creates a new email with the forwarding email attached as a .eml file. When that happens you get into compatibility of the recipient being able to read it (mainly web mail users). It is little things like that I get worked up about, but I have found Thunderbird is the closest open source client to outlook to manage my mail. I personally would like to find a client more like Microsoft Outlook that I can run natively on Debian.
im searching a kde programm to show current print jobs. I've installed aptosid (actual version).I've searched the repository and I only found printer-applet which does not run in aptosid - I got the following error messages:
Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/printer-applet", line 1161, in <module>
