Mar 12, 2010I just restarted my computer, and now I have no sound whatsoever. I did not download, or install anything. The only thing I did was adding a user.

View 1 RepliesUnder 10.04, I was using my sound card just fine, but after a system update,I lost all my sound profiles and my sound. I'm using my mobo's SPDIF ( I have an ASUS p7p55d).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did but I lost all audio. I'm running F15 with gnome 3. By opening system settings and then sound I don't find anything muted. Under hardware I have 3 devices, the first is RS880 Audio Device (Radeon HD 4200) this one has no sound at all when I click test speakers. Then I have quickcam comm STX and then I have Internal Audio which works by clicking on test speakers.. I have no clue of where to start to fix this but reinstall everything again.

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

Also I am totally confused by the mixer, it has so many knobs that I am totally lost!

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.40, I no longer have sound, except for the Ubuntu sound when it loads during start up. Does anyone know how I can recover sound on my computer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had such good sucess with Ubuntu that this took me by surprise. Last week after an update I was suddenly without sound in Karmic Koala. Fortunately. I also have Lucid Lynx and the sound is OK there. I really gave it a dedicated try but was unable to get any sound.

Recently, I suddenly lost all sound coming in from firefox. Other sound works fine (e.g. Amarok), but I can't get any sound from type of source on the internet. There's also no sound coming from Opera.
Am running 10.04 from upgrade.
The startup sound just desappeared. The Gnome Login Sound is still on the list of starting programs and the command is right (/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play id=desktop-login description=GNOME Login). What makes it more weird is, that it works fine on all other users. I started to suffer from this problem since I tried to change the sound (I have done it before with no problems). At the same time with changing the startup sound I installed PulseAudio volume control. Could these things have something doing with my startup sound desappearence?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have connected the PC to an amplifier via optical cable. Everything was working fine. Suddenly, I lost sound! The last things I was doing was extracting some CDs by Sound Juicer and I installed a program named setcd. I thought it was the new software conflicting, so I uninstalled it. However, still no sound. I check the sound settings and find to be the same as before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Maverick things generally went well - but I noticed TWO sound controls and removed one - later after a reboot I no longer have any. It will appear once I click on System/Preferences/Sound, but otherwise it doesn't show up on the desktop bar. I checked under the Add to Panel feature but no luck - any ideas how to get it back?

I think Virtualbox tried to do something to the kernal as I got an error refering to kernal version when I started Vbox. After that I had no sound.
I've tried to go through various sound fix threads but so far no success.
I've performed ALSA Upgrade:
Code:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of a furball trying to change a soundcard. I took out an Audigy card. KDE detected the removal of the old card and asked me if I wanted to remove the drivers. I said yes. I went into the bios and enabled the onboard sound. Now I've got no sound so I guess I've got some configuration to do. So far:

I've just done an upgrade after noticing the Update manager thingee at the bottom of the screen. I was listening to my music when I noticed it.
I did the Restart now after upgrading. Now I have no sound at all. Checked headphones were turned up which they were. Checked sound settings and found there were no Devices in Hardware and Input and a Dummy Output (stereo) listed in Output. I would have thought that my onboard sound would have shown up as well as the sound bits on my HDMI card - not that I've ever managed to get sound out of my telly via the HDMI cable. (I do have Alsa sound installed).
I installed the gmusicbrowser to check it out, however it seems to have taken banshees spot in the unity indicator.Even after uninstalling and purging the application it stays in there as a broken entry,.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just lost the sound to Xine after updating Hardy. It works fine otherwise and I have sound with Totem and VLC so it would seem to be a Xine-only problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently freshly installed Debian 8 (stable) XFCE.Everything was working fine. I installed Skype (using the instructions in the Debian wiki) and that worked no problem. I then installed libavcodec56-extra (just to have the extra codecs ready in case needed), and Synaptic also installed the i386 version also. After that, no sound (anywhere at all).I reinstalled libavcodec-56 (and the i386 version) to try to rectify the problem, but the sound has not returned.
As per a google seacrh, i installed pulse audio. This showed me that the the 'levels' were moving in line with the sounds which should have been playing, but no amount of tweaking managed to get the sound to come out. I have Mint installed on the same machine and the sound works fine here so i know for sure it is not a hardware issue.
I'm running 32bit Lenny on an older Dell Dimension 2400 running the 2.6.26 Kernel. This box was mainly used to play movies for my son over the network (most are encoded by me using xvid and lame). One of my kids wanted to use the computer to watch videos on ...... I attempted to install the flashplugin-nonfree from the backports and it kept timing out on downloading the package, so I ran apt-get update and then apt-get upgrade. I rebooted and tried the flashplugin-nonfree again and finally got ..... videos to play but there was no sound. I assumed it was a permission issue, so I switched users and attempted to play some of the movies which I've played before and currently the video plays fine but the audio sounds very ugly. I attempted to play an mp3 using mpg123 from the command line and I get mostly static. You can hear some sound but it's all jumbled and there is a lot of static. I have a creative soundblaster card using the EMU10k1 driver. Everything was working fine before I started mucking with the flashplugin and I'm afraid something I "upgraded" may have caused my issue.
Any suggestions? Is there a way I can remove any sound related drivers etc and attempt to reinstall them? I attempted to run sudo alsaconf but afterwards, it acts like there is no sound card. a reboot resolves that issue as I didn't save any changes, but I'm not sure where to go from here. I've become spoiled by all of the newer distros which detect all of my hardware and everything is configured for me.
my issue is as my Title "Lost Top Sound Icon & Can't control volume with Keyboard" OS: Ubutnu 9.10 x64 - Karmic Koala Lost the Top Panel Sound Icon, I even go to: System > Preferences > Sound Message Pops Up: Waiting for sound system to respond
Funny thing I do get Ubuntu OS Audio sounds Now as well I lost control of my Volume with my Keyboard, pretty sure it has to do with the same Sound icon in the Top panel that is missing The only way I can control Audio is Manually using: gnome-alsamixer 0.9.7
It sucks big time, because I can't control my Audio when ever I need to mute it or upper/lower it through my keyboard fastly when needed. having to manually opening an application to be able to change/control the Audio volume is a huge hassle for me

My sound was working, but I got a new SPDIF cable, so I switched it to digital. It worked fine. But then I restarted and now it's gone.
aplay -l tells me I have no soundcard but lspci -v lists
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 836c
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
Memory at f9ff4000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]

So my soundcard is there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe old Nvidia GT220 recently died in my HTPC and I replaced it with a new GT430. Sound over HDMI worked beautifully with the old card (after much trial & error,) but has now stopped working with the new card.Forgot to mention that everything appears to be unmuted in alsamixer. When I run "aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/ sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" I get no sound. I do however get sound from the headphone jack when I do the same command for the onboard sound card (0,0)
View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything was working when I was on Ubuntu 9.04 but after I upgraded to 9.10 via their upgrade utility. The upgrade failed at the last point of installation (when it tried to install daemon I think). Nevertheless, after the reboot I was on ubuntu 9.10. But the sound stopped working as well as the mouse trackpad on my laptop. I remember that during the installation when it asked if I wanted to keep the old sound configuration file, I clicked yes. So is there I way to fix/reinstall the sound driver and the tackpad? In the sound hardware setting window, no device is listed. I'm pretty sure that my hardwares work on ubuntu 9.10 as the sound and trackpad work fine using the ubuntu 9.10 live CD.

Even I can see that the last bit is probably a problem. However, don't have a clue as to how to proceed.
