Ubuntu :: Lost Thunar Bulk Renamer?

Jun 9, 2010

In a previous version of Ubuntu, when you installed Thunar you automatically got the Bulk Renamer as well.With the latest version not only does it not download automatically, but I can't find it in Synaptic at all. Has it not been updated to work with Ubuntu 10.04 or am I just being blind, and not seeing something obvious?

Ubuntu :: Bulk Find & Copy In Terminal?

Mar 29, 2010

I have found KRename to be very useful for bulk find and renames; however, I'd like to do a find a copy, which KRename doesn't appear to do.

For example, I'd like to (case insensitively) search all subdirectories for files called "cover.jpg", "cover.gif", or "cover.png" and create a copy of these called "thumb.xxx", in the same subdirectory the original is found, with the same extension as the original.

Ubuntu Networking :: Bulk Renaming Files On A SMB Share?

Jan 23, 2011

I have a Netgear ReadyNAS NV in the basement, that I want to use to serve up video files over my network to a TV in the living room.

Now, I have a lot of files that HandBrake encoded and it gave the files an m4v suffix. Even when the files are in a codec that the TV can handle, it refuses to load them because of this suffix... so I want to rename them all.

This is fairly simple for files on a local filesystem. I can simply cd into the directory containing the files, and do something like the commands below.

Code:
$ for a in `ls`;
> do
> stem=`echo ${a} | cut -f1 -d"."` ;
> mv ${a} ${stem}.mpg ;

[Code]....

Although there are a few smb commands available (smbstatus, smbget, etc.), I've not found any commands like smbls or smbmv.

Are there any special commands or utilities around that can do the kind of thing I'm trying to do?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Bulk Video Converter For Viewing On The Ipod?

Jun 17, 2010

I've been working on a small program to perform a very specific and useful task of quickly and efficiently converting videos to go on any Apple Ipod or Iphone. This includes both classic and 5th generation Ipods as well. Ibulk is a command-line only program but incredibly easy to use and runs off FFmpeg with AAC functionality. The program comes with a Read Me file which will explain its options and instructions in concise detail. Ibulk converts several videos in its input folder to the desired H.264 or XviD video encoding to its output folder. All videos are created in mp4 format with 160Kbps 48000Hz audio sound quality (highest setting an Ipod can handle) and both video encoders at the highest bitrate an Ipod can handle with the exception of some videos which will be auto-adjusted to meet the Ipod's requirements. Ibulk is written in the native unix/linux language and so it should work on any linux distro.

Ubuntu :: Write A Script To Go Through And Delete Bulk Duplicate Files?

Jul 7, 2010

I am using my Ubuntu machine to serve as a media server and network storage. The problem I have is iTunes on my desktop managed to make 2 copies of every song on the machine so instead of the 30GB I have its up to almost 100gb. I was wondering if there was a way to write a script to go through and delete the duplicates. The duplicates are the same filename as the original except a 1 or 2 following. Wasn't looking forward to deleting 12,000 files by hand.

Debian :: Changing Status Of Packages In Bulk

Jul 24, 2015

I am currently running Debian Jessie with the Xfce DE.

I recently decided to replace the Xfce window manager with i3. Running Code: Select allsudo apt-get remove xfcwm unfortunately caused a lot of very necessary software to be listed as "no longer required" because they were installed automatically with xfcwm; reinstalling xfcwm did not fix the issue.

I would like to know how I can list these packages as "required", or at least as not automatically installed. I tried using

Code: Select allsudo apt-mark unmarkauto

But this only seems to work one package at a time, and there are simply too many packages for this to be a convenient solution.

Ubuntu :: Camera - Allow To Bulk Export Images At The Desired Size And Quality

Jun 6, 2011

I recently have bought a digital reflex. After a few shootings and so on it's now come the time to use my Ubuntu at best to work with my camera. Can you recommend to me some software (if it's an all in 1 product the better)

What I'm really interested in is handling RAW format (.cp2 if I'm correct?), tagging renaming and organizing my pictures (both with and without filters and so on applied on them). Also it would be great if it would allow me to bulk export images at the desired size and quality. (I've tried digiKam but it doesn't import pictures from my camera)

Ubuntu :: Gigolo Keeps Using Nautilus Instead Of Thunar

May 12, 2011

I've got this Ubuntu 10.04 machine at work where I installed xubuntu-desktop as I'm much more familiar with Xfce than with Gnome.This means now all Gnome and Xfce related applications are installed (both Nautilus and Thunar, to make an example).I use Gigolo to access network shares.Problem is, when I open a network share with Gigolo, Nautilus opens instead of Thunar. This is annoying for a number of reasons and I'm not going to bother you with those.I want Gigolo to use Thunar instead.

I already did everything that's suggested on the Gigolo help page, but the problem persists. Uninstalling Nautilus, besides not being an option as this is a multi-user machine, doesn't solve the problem and actually results in this error on the terminal.

Ubuntu :: Any Way To Avoid Running Thunar?

Jul 13, 2011

I had a problem with Thunar in Xubuntu. As I often work with huge images, memory is consumed generating Previews. Disabling Previews seems to be very difficult in Thunar, as it makes use of external Thumbnailers. Another problem is making a file executable. I couldn't find out how to do that in Thunar. So I decided to change back to Nautilus, which solves the problems. In preferences it is easy to disable generating previews. But I was not able to get completely rid of Thunar. The folders on my desktop still would open in Thunar, although I set Nautilus as default browser. So the problem sometimes is still there. Uninstall is not possible, as it completely uninstalls xfce-desktop. Is there a way to avoid running both browsers at the same time?
