View 1 RepliesI want b able to recover or reset the password that i lost. I have ubunto installed with windows vista. I used the following link for guidance: [URL].. tried recovery mode in grub it always asks me the same thing:"Give root password for maintenance". I also tried to edit and boot the kernel unfortunately it did not work. So i never have a prompt, it still asks me for the password.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using pwman3 for both personal and work related passwords. I have a few dozens of passwords in these databases (well over a hundred).
I'm trying to migrate to KeePass for multiple reasons (pwman3 seems to not work any more and is not maintained, keepass has android and nokia database reader clients) but am looking for a way to do this on a Ubuntu desktop.
I manage to export the data from pwman3 into an XML file in pwman3's format but didn't find an easy way to convert it to something that KeePassX can read.
The closest I found is a Ruby script to convert from Revelation XML to KeePassX, but it's written in Ruby and trying to build on it to convert the pwman3 file is going slow.
Ok I just got my self in a mess. I wanted to change a users password and some how changed mine instead. I am the administrator. (go figure) now I can only log on to the users account
I tried old password
I tried no password
I tried users password
No luck all failed. I am off to work so will not be able to respond until tonight so I hope you guys have a few tricks up your sleeve.
KeePassX is a fork of KeePass; the outstanding open source application for securely storing passwords. I use it for all my accounts and passwords for all my machines and customers. I ran into quite a bit of trouble trying to build it from source as it requires the Qt and Xorg headers to compile.
The following are the steps to build and install keepassx from source on Fedora 14
Step1: Install dependencies
Code:
yum -y install gcc gcc-c++ qt-devel qt-config libXtst-devel
Step 2: Fetch source code
Code:
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/keepassx/keepassx-0.4.3.tar.gz
Step 3: Unpack Source
[Code]....
I'm switching from Xfce4 DM to Openbox WM. In Xfce4 KeePassX's autotypeing works fine. In Openbox for ex. UserName 'azerty-qwerty' autotypes to 'qwerty6azerty' - whatever the browser.
Code:
Select all# dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration is correct: Logitech Ultra-X Keyboard / French.
/etc/default/keyboard:
Code: Select allXKBMODEL="logiultrax"
XKBLAYOUT="fr"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS="lv3:ralt_switch"
BACKSPACE="guess"
'Copy UserName to Clipboard (Ctrl+B)' from KeePassX, then paste (Ctrl+V) in the form field/a text editor displays correctly.
What might be the cause of this?
Settings - show plaintext passwords in:
[check] edit entry dialog
[check] database key dialog
But the program hides passwords. Why?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed and this now worries me, if I export a KeePassX xml file then open it with a text editor I can see all my private details.Just tested it on my old desktop with Slitaz and open the exported file with leafpad text editor and I can see my details just the same.Previously I used RoboForm and when viewing an exported file in the same way you could not make out any of my details. Is KeePassX designed this way or have I not used KeePassX correctly.I have posted this on KeePassX forum and emailed them direct with no response so far.Ubuntu 11.04.

My situation is that I have a desktop that was in storage for a year, and I don't have the login name or password anymore. Is there anyway to get around this roadblock, say by upgrading? I'd really like to save the files on the HD.If I can boot up in protected mode and login as root,it seems that I should be able to change the login and pwd.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.10nbr on my wife's eee 901. Now she cannot remember her password. I've tried booting to recovery to use the passwd command, but that does not work. I believe I encrypted the home folder when I installed. Normally if I don't encrypt home, then I enable auto-login.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't recall my Ubuntu password.**
I found instructions regarding recovery.
They involve pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 while booting the Ubuntu live CD.
If I allow the live CD to boot, I arrive at a Ubuntu GUI.
However, if I press Ctrl-Alt-F1, the monitor (HDMI TV) goes blank and indicates "no signal
correcting the password from a GUI (can I just go to a command prompt from there somehow, and work from that command prompt?) or getting my video to display when I press Ctrl-Alt-F1?
** (I remember trying to set up the system with NO password).
It's absurd to require one.
Especially so if a person with a live CD can simply change it (I guess at least the change would be detected).
I just did a net install of Debian Jessie in VMWare Player. I very much enjoyed the install. I chose not to install a desktop. I set the root password as root. And the user as paul/paul. Now I cant login in root, it says I have the wrong password. How would you resolve this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have forgotten my password, like a moron, and have been trying to reset/recover it.
I have found the plethora of sites giving instructions on how to reset my password, such as psychocats.net
So have gotten into the root shell and this is what I type.
ls /home
(gives me the name of my account)
passwd (my account here)
unknown user (account name here)
I have also tried doing the editing the boot kernel.
I add this: rw init=/bin/bash
Once I restart I get the root@(none) command prompt. Then I type passwd (username here) and get back ' unknown user

I'm new to Linux (had some basic Unix experience in 1995 era). (Teenager) gave me HP2133 mini notebook running SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. Everything checks good (hardware and software), even wireless networking. Problem is she apparently created Admin/root password but says cannot remember. I cannot even set correct date time... yast is asking for root privilege:
Command: /sbin/yast2 time
Is there anything I can do to re-establish administrator privilege?
for christmas my parents got both my younger sister and i acer mini computers, model d250-1958. my sister was trying to change her password that lets herself as a particular user log in. somehpw she messed up the password and its not what she thought it was and now she doesn't have any way of accessing anything. i thought that there might be an ovveride system or a reseting trick. i've looked in the manual but cant find anything of the sort for either of the two options.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm really new to Linux so this will probably sound like a pretty naive question to most users, but how do you change the root password?To install Java, I have to type # su into Terminal,which then asks for the password.What's weird is that when I start typing a password, no characters show up. I don't know if this is supposed to happen or not.I've found a bunch of different sites on the Internet that explain how to change the root password, but none of them seem to work for my specific work station.
I've got Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. In the GRUB boot menu, I can choose to boot normal or in recovery mode (I'm led to believe older versions don't have this option).I've tried typing # sudo passwrd into Terminal, but I already have a root password set up apparently, so I can't change it there.
