Ubuntu :: Laptop Mouse Wants To Hide

May 2, 2010

I am using a Toshiba Satellite L355-s7915 notebook with a 17" screen. The maximum screen resolution is 1440x900, and I have to run at that resolution because lower settings just occupy less monitor space. What is means is that the image shown is still the same size, but in a smaller area. Of course print is not too big as a result. FireFox at least gives me a zoom-in and zoom-out capability when using Ctrl and either the + or - key, so that helps. But the mouse is rather small, maybe a 1/16" width. And sometimes it is hard to locate on the screen. Since the mouse pointer and the cursor positions can be in separate areas, seeing one does not help with finding the other.

Anyway, I have found that a search for a hard-to-see mouse can take a lot of mouse jiggling about, and it helps to have some place on the screen that behaves differently if the mouse passes over it. That pop up task bar that VirtualBox adds when the client is in full screen mode works pretty good for this, but if you don't know where the mouse is, then trying to move it over the pop up task bar locaton is a guessing game. I found a better way, and thought I might pass this along. You don't know where the mouse position is? Press the right mouse button. A choice of things to do pops up, and where it is, so is the mouse. In fact the mouse is in there to make a choice, and is easy to see now. Now you just take the mouse where you want to go, and you have survived another crisis.

General :: Hide Mouse Cursor In Ubuntu (for Touchscreen)?

Jul 1, 2010

I've recently got a tablet pc and I've got it nicely set up with Jolicloud - an Ubuntu derivative like Mint - but I can't hide the mouse cursor in Gnome. Now, I've read so much about tips and tricks on how to hide the cursor with terminal, X and gconf tricks in my Googling, but NOTHING works!

How do I do this definitely? Edit: Unclutter is not what I want, nor is changing the root X cursor satisfactory, because it is overridden by whatever toolkit you are using.

Ubuntu :: Way To 'hide' All 'folder Widgets' From Desktop With Mouse Action

Feb 12, 2011

is there a way to 'hide' all 'folder widgets' from the desktop with a mouse (or keyboard) action? I mean hide as in 'make invisible', not as in 'close forever'I'm trying to mimic this Window's app: URL..., which is nothing more than a 'folder widget' for windows. The only thing that this app has that I can not reproduce in KDE is the ability to hide all 'folder widgets' with a mouse action (Fences does it with a double click on the desktop).

Ubuntu :: Laptop Become Idle If Don't Move The Mouse For A Few Seconds

Sep 5, 2010

I have a laptop Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2550 and if I don't move the mouse for a few seconds becomes idle. Sometimes become idle after 1-2 seconds, sometimes after 1 minute. When that happens everything stops including sound, but when I move the mouse everything go back to normal.

(that's happening with the newer alsa driver) On ubuntu 10.04(which use a later alsa driver) I can prevent the laptop become idle if I listen music but the sound stop sometimes for a second. (seems like is an alsa driver problem) Right now the best solution is to install OSS driver and to play music all the time.

General :: Laptop Mouse Not Working Outside GUI In Fedora 13

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 recently converted to run Fedora 13. Everything seems fine except the touchpad mouse doesn't work outside the X-Window. When I boot to full multi-user mode, the mouse doesn't work at all. I think this is responsible for the typical UNIX copy & paste by selecting and right clicking not to work within GUI. Slackware :: Usb Mouse Connected To A Laptop Is Completely Non-responsive ?

Oct 19, 2010

I installed slackware 13.1 lately to a laptop. its a toshiba satellite m40 185 if it makes any difference. In any case, and while the touchpad works flawlessly, connecting a standard USB mouse to the pc does not power up the mouse (its a microsoft notebook optical mouse) and of course the mouse pointer does not follow the mouse's moves... no clicks either.

Basically when I do

Quote:

I don't see junk printed on my terminal, whereas moving around the touchpad I do see some.

Just to clarify, It's not just X that is not working, gpm doesn't get mouse moves from the usb mouse either (touchscreen works flawlessly in console too).

my xorg.conf looks like:

Quote:

I added the last 2 options after following this guide, which seems to cover concurrent read-in from more than 1 pointing devices.

All the other guides I found assume that you have a working gpm.

One question is: since with the new radeon drivers the xorg.conf file can be missing altogether and X will not cry, does it make any difference to add mouse options in xorg.conf?

Continuing my thought: it must be something else. Kernel doesn't seem to be the problem. The USB subsystem works since usb mass storage devices (that's all I have sitting around) are sensed by the kernel and udev properly. Additionally, the problem persists with the huge kernel.

Before slackware, I used to run fedora on the laptop and both pointing devices worked properly, however I think fedora uses another method of setting up the X server devices..

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Laptop Touchpad : Mouse Cursor Jumping After Boot / Fix It?

May 20, 2011

I have a small issue I couldn't find a solution for. I'm running Centos 5.5 on a Fujitsu-Siemens S6120 laptop. When I boot my system and use the touchpad for the first couple of seconds my mouse cursor jumps around the screen sporadically and also mouse buttons "gets pressed" by themselves (without me actually touching them). After 1-2 seconds the situation becomes absolutely normal - mouse moves good and buttons work only when I press them.
Everything repeats after the reboot.

I see the following error in the system log:
psmouse.c: Mouse at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away

It appears right when I try to use the touchpad for the first time, I guess.

The situation isn't critical, but is quite annoying. Is there a way to get it fixed? I searched the Net, but found mostly issues with mouse loosing sync during operation - such thing never happened to me, as my issue appears only once per boot.
