Ubuntu Installation :: Open As Administrator In Mouse-menu?
Jun 7, 2010
On my 10.04 desktop i have some maps from a user that doesn't exist anymore, but I can't do anything with it. Is there a possibility to make a "open as sudo" or something like that in the mouse menu? I haven't found an other way to do something with these maps

just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.
My System Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Western Digital 250 GB Hard Drive
Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22)
(Used Desktop Install CD)

Strange. After a recent update, I can no longer right click on a folder and open it as Administrator. I get this error message:
Unable to determine the program to run.
The item you selected cannot be open with administrator powers because the correct application cannot be determined.
I don't quite get this but why is it looking for a program to run? I only want to open a folder, not run a program. Anyway, I have done an uninstall and re-install of nautilus-gksu but that did not solve the problem. I have googled but no answers I could use.
Again, all I want to do is open a folder as Administrator so I can perform other operations that require root permission on files in that folder.
using: 10.04 LTS fully updated

I have installed KlamAV just in case and am now proceeding with scanning. However, a few directories showed up in pop-ups non-accessible and at about 5% a whole sequence of such. I also remember this "access denied" occurring when I tried to change something in the Administrator menu, although I can't remember what

I had 9.04 64-bit with / and /home in separate partitions. Today I used 10.10 alternate install to install a command line system. Then installed gnome-core, synaptic, gparted, and a few other things. Now when I go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager or to Gparted, I am asked for the "administrator password". I type in my password, but it is not accepted. However, from a terminal I can "sudo synaptic", give my password, and install whatever I want.

I was using lucid since beta 2 without problems, but since few days I can't get a menu when I click on the right mouse button. Doesn't work on the desktop or when for example I want to rename a file using the right mouse button. Is this a bug from gnome or a new properties?

When I right click my desktop for example, to create a folder / change Desktop Background, my right click menu appears, but the moment i move my mouse onto it (mouse over) it disappears. Changed to 3 different mice with the same problem. I've just worked out that switching to console and back (CTRL + ALT + F1) then login and CTRL+F7 fixes the menu?? So I'm guessing this could be a bug with something gnome related?

I incorrectly changed the command under Folder Properties to open all folders with the wrong program rather than the Ubuntu default program. I now can't open the folder properties screen using the right mouse button. How do I get back to the properties screen so I can change this back to the default open folder command?

- open terminal and type gconf-editor - apps -> metacity -> global_keybinding and look for panel_main_menu - right click and edit, change value to "Super_L" without the quote.

Something very strange has happened to my system (Lucid / Gnome / 64 bit): when I try to open a location from Gnome Menu, message pops up saying: "Can't open location [file:///...]. No program is registered to open this type of file." Or something in this vein, I'm translating the message from Polish. So I can't open locations via the main menu, but the bookmarks work fine in an open Nautilus window. It looks like the system doesn't know it should open a location with Nautilus... I looked through file associations in Ubuntu Tweak, but couldn't find anything corresponding to "file:///..." or anything resembling opening a location (I'm not exactly a Linux guru). Also, the folder shortcuts in Cairo-Dock don't work, the same goes for the FolderView screenlets. However, in the MainMenu screenlet, the location shortcuts do work. There has to be some obvious explanation of this anomaly, but I lack a deeper knowledge of the system to work it out. I can't say at which point it started exactly, I think it was around the time I started dragging extra shortcuts to the Cairo-Dock shortcuts applet, but that may be a coincidence.

I noticed a few minutes ago that although I can open the Places and System menus fine, when I click on Applications it highlights but no drop down menu appears beneath it as usual, and when I right click and select Edit Menus also nothing happens.
I have since restarted which did not resolve the issue.
How can I remedy this, and what could have caused the problem to begin with?

9.10 has no menu.lst file and hitting ESC to does not bring up the grub menu. How can we set bootup options or boot an alternate kernel? I would really like to set the resolution at boot time so that my console (Ctrl-Alt-F5, for example) has 80 columns instead of 40. (What a stupid default, gigantic Commodore-64-like text!) It would also be nice if the Login screen could be set to the resolution that I want.
In previous releases, there were ways to do this. In 9.10, I haven't been able to figure out how.
Is there a document explaining all of the radical changes?
