When i run the same project on my new system, the system does not respond as it is waiting for microphone voice input.Then I checked the microphone and have set it properly and its working now. My wife is taking an online language course that requires Windows in order to record and playback speech (for pronunciation training). I decided the easiest thing to do would be to clone a VM I use on my machine for tasks that can only be accomplished in a Windows environment. I did so, and successfully installed the speech recognition utility on the Windows guest VM. Unfortunately, although the microphone works just fine--I can hear my voice in the headphones--no sound is recorded by the speech recognition utility. Just to be clear, the microphone is fully functional under GNU/Linux. My wife has been using Skype without any issues at all. That is, Skype used to work. Somewhere during the course of trying to resolve the voice recording problem I managed to break Skype. I have no idea how.
It's a long story, but I'll try to be as brief as possible. When I could not get the VM solution to work properly, I thought maybe the problem was with the VM, so I checked the original copy on my own machine. No problem there. Windows sees and hears the microphone just fine (using the testing utility under sound configuration). So how is it possible that the microphone doesn't work in the cloned VM image? Before you stop me, allow me to note that both machines have identical motherboards, and both are configured to use the onboard sound. Sound works on the Linux host and the Windows guest VM. Both sound and microphone work in the original VM image on my machine, but only sound works in the cloned VM on my wife's machine.
If you've followed me down the rabbit hole this far, please continue with me a bit further as things get stranger and stranger. After triple checking all the setting in KMix (I'm running Squeeze/KDE on both machines) to be sure they were identical, I noted that I was unable to view/add/enable the "channel" option on my wife's machine. Why, I have no idea. As I said, the machines are identical as can be both regarding hardware and software. Out of desperation, I decided to set up an account for my wife on my machine. I created her account, made sure she had the necessary audio permissions, then cloned my VM to her account. Same problem.
I would love for someone to point out what I'm missing here. Same hardware, identical VM (clone), same permissions, same sound configurations in KMix and under the Windows guest VM. How is it possible for the microphone to work for me, but not for my wife? Is there some mystery configuration file somewhere that has magically been altered for her account alone? The worst part about this entire process is that I've broken my wife's Skype, which is a big deal seeing as we live in a tiny country in the heart of Africa and cell phone communications are very expensive.
I want to make an application that will be using some text to speech and speech to text packages using Python in OpenSUSE 11.2.

I tried to install Ubuntu 9.10 off the live cd but it was unable to partition the raid and kept failing. I was then told top use the alternate cd. I use that and my raid is detected, partitioned, and the system is installed. However now I cannot install a boot loader as I get continuous errors. Right now I am left with no ideas with what to do. I have Ubuntu installed to my hard drives just no way of accessing it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Kubuntu 10.10 64-bit, which was running fine until I did a bunch of apt-get software installs to permit me to compile YaWP weather plasmoid. In the process I am now at KDE 4.6.2, and my system is now non-functional, not able to start KDE desktop.
When KDE starts I get continuous krunner segfaults, krunner is taking 100% of the CPU, the desktop is there but the system is unusable. /var/log/messages is filled with the krunner segfaults, each line further indicating "error 4 in libkio.so.5.6.0". I tried reinstalling kubuntu-desktop, problem remains.
I expect I have created some software incompatibility with my installs, but I do not know how to diagnose/resolve.
After my ubuntu 9.10 had updated automatically it started talk something when login screen appears. Also after every startup, process named speech-dispatcher appears and it uses almost 100% of CPU and I have to kill it manually. I removed file speech-dispatch from /etc/init.d, but it didn't help.

I wouldn't like to reinstall entire OS, or to have to manually update this single program every time. Is there an option to update it from 10.10 repositories, pointing out, that I need only this package (and it's dependencies)? Or is there any PPA that does the trick for me?
Generally, the entire packaging system of Ubuntu rocks, as long as I can find up-to-date PPAs of all packages I need to have in recent versions (like mono).

I am installing Ubuntu on one of my my PC using WUBI for the first time (Not the first time for Ubuntu, but for WUBI) When Trying to run... I get this:
The Problem is that I have never seen this error message before in the way it behaves. I have seen a "No Disk" error before but it doesn't prompt the message constantly after clicking cancel or OK.
What could be causing this? I tried this on another machine and it worked fine.
I've installed Debian twice on my new system and always have mei_me errors and the system doesn't boot. The errors are:
mei_me: HBM haven't started
mei_me: link layer initialization failed
mei_me: init hw failure
mei_me: initialization failed
While it would suggest some sort of hardware problem, this system is working fine with Ubuntu 14.04 & 16.04.
how big and widespaced the fonts on Clementine playlist are and how good they look on the appmenu (where my mouse pointer is). This is not because Clementine is QT4, I've got the same problem with Chrome, Opera etc. I've been messing with system-settings (KDE settings tool) a day before the fonts become that widespaced in order to make my KDE apps look more native on my GNOME, but I haven't touched the fonts settings there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have openGL working fine on my system.The only problem is that when I try to run the executable file, nothing appears unless the full scene has been rendered.In fact, it appears in parts, i.e. updates after a second, then after another second etc...However, earlier, the rendering used to be continuous and I could see each pixel getting rendered in a continuous fashion.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit (I am an experienced Linux user here), installed a few extras like docky, zeitgeist, added my Ubuntu one account (I don't synchronise much at all, about 100kb max), my twitter account using Gwibber, but nothing much else. I also mount a few smbfs shares in my fstab file at bootup. About the only other program that uses the net that I can think of is running would be rabbitvcs, but I can't imagine that will keep downloading if I am not doing anything.I noticed that when opening system monitor, it is continuously downloading 8.6kb/sec, even if I am doing absolutely nothing. It gets to the point that after an hour or so of use, 100mb or more has downloaded, but what for??
I tried a Googling a few commands to figure out what is eating up network download bandwidth, such as "netstat -p" and "lsof | grep tcp", to try to figure out what is downloading so much at a constant rate, but I can't seem to find the process.I have tried disabling stuff one after the other:
I disconnected my Ubuntu one account
I removed my Twitter account from gwibber
I terminated zeitgeist-daemon
I terminated all desktop-couch related processes
I disconnected all my smbfs drives
But it is still downloading 8.6kb/sec, steadily. This is wasting a lot of bandwidth during the day, and I am not sure what is causing it.
p.s. it is only doing downloading, never uploading.
When I boot up my 10.4 laptop I find that the resolution of the login screen is too large. About 50 percent of the time, the portion of the screen where I am to type in the password is off the screen and I am forced to reboot. The other 50% of the time I "get lucky" and have the useful portion of screen space available. Once I do login the screen works fine. How do I control GDM resolution behavior?In case it matters, the laptop is Acer Travelmate 6493.

It hibernated last night, and now when I try to boot it hits the initial few steps in the boot process and then reboots.
Any thoughts on how to fix this problem. I have tried to access a GRUB menu w/ the ESC key but no dice.
My desktop becomes very quiet once windows7 is loaded.. but the fan, maybe cpu fan runs continuously in fedora 13. though it's not quite noisy, I thought I didn't install the correct drivers for the Asus h55 mb. the mb cd has a directory "isolinux", which contains a boot.cat, isolinux.bin, isolinux.cfg along with two subdirectories, data & src. but isolinux.bin is not executable.. how can I install the drivers in fedora?
