Ubuntu Installation :: Install - Downgrade - 10.04 Without CD And Bootable Pendrive?

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10. Works good, but I would like to switch LTS-release-cycle. I can't burn CD, so I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 without cd or pendrive. I tried to install Ubuntu 10.04, using Ubuntu alternate cd and grub loader: [url] but it doesn't work (bugs in kernel modules) Is it possible to downgrade Ubuntu 10.10 to 10.04 without burning cd? Can i create new partition and house the installation disk?
I created a bootable usb pendrive with ubuntu netbook remix, and now want to download it to an ISO image to be able to use the pendrive for other purposes, but having possibility to create it again from ISO. What is the right application to do it?
Which is bit tricky (I learn slowly linux unfortunately due to low skills in informatics)

I tried unetbootin to make this pendrive, and it seems to be working, but not perfect. it hangs after the territory, saying that nothing into /cdrom is mounted.
Without unetbootin, how should we do to make a pendrive iso-cd/debian-503-i386-netinst-like bootable?
I just performed a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 on my flash drive, allocating a 6.5 GB persistence file. Of course, the first thing I did after booting from it was to run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade. After a lengthy install process, I was eventually notified that several packages failed to upgrade. I rebooted and tried again, still to no avail. Now, whenever I install a new package or attempt to upgrade with apt-get, I receive the following or a simmilar output:
I'm looking to upgrade my netbook from the default Windows 7 Starter pack, over to the ever amazing Debian Ubuntu package. The problem is that, just as the title suggests, my netbook is unable to boot from a USB device, nor does it have a slot to place CDs/DVDs in. I'm not really in the position to purchase an external CD/DVD drive, however I'm not sure that would work anyways since it would connect via USB.. What can I do? Am I stuck with Windows 7 forever on this netbook?
I tried upgrading to Natty last night through the update wizard and the install went perfectly... until I rebooted and it got stuck at a screen with an "_" in the top left corner of the screen and nothing else. I guessed that this was a grub problem, so I tried reinstalling grub2, but to no avail. So, I burned a Natty install CD and proceeded to reinstall, formatting the partition (/home was on another partition and did not get formatted). Again, the install went great, rebooted and this time I get "No Bootable Device - Please insert a bootable device and hit enter". So, again, I try re-installing grub2 from the live CD. I purge, uninstall, and reinstall grub2... nothing works! What the hell?
I would like to install F12 to a bootable USB device from a working Fedora partition other than the liveUSB-creator option. Is there a way to do that from a working Fedora machine without have to burn a DVD? Seems like there should be but I can't find a guide for it.
I am having a problem with my new Toshiba Satellite Laptop... I had installed debian for some time but last week suddenly stopped working.
- the computer stopped working at all... nor bios access. - I did a new bootable installation in USB drive and downloaded the latest debian iso from official website and created the bootable device via dd as usual. - I installed the new debian but after I removed the usb drive in order to boot into my new system. I was taken to a screen saying "Start PXE over IPv6 -- Start PXE over IPv4 ..." I followed several links looking for a fix, and all of them lead me to disable network boot option in BIOS setup... - I disabled but after that it appears a new message "No Bootable device -- Press restart system" and nothing happens from there. - I have found info in Internet regarding this issue, but all I find is "windows related" - Someone recommended me this: "The BIOS can no longer recognize the hard drive as a bootable device. This could be for a number of reasons. Your best bet, if it is still under warranty, is going to be to bring it back to where you purchased it" - But instead, what I did was to create a new bootable device, this time containing XUBUNTU and installed it to the machine, I had the good news that the installation proceed without any problem, so I could figured out that my machine it is still alive... - Back to my issue and hoping that something unexpected happened that fixed the machine, I got back and did a new Debian bootable device, also hoping that the latest was corrupted or something, but after reboot to my new system... the problem persisted again. - I chose to have 1 partition in full disk.
Now I don't know what else to do... I don't like ubuntu, I have used debian for some years and I want to keep using it and I would not like to be forced to move to ubuntu or xubuntu for this.
I would like to build an oem style install partions that is bootable with menu to choose if I want to run install or boot already installed system. I would like to include current source packages on the same dive so if I don't have internet access at time of install, can can still install what I need.I know with Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can get this but how can I do this with Debian?
So here is my situation..i was using win 7 and ubuntu 10.10 in my dell studio 1555. and i wanted to try out debian so i installed debian in my pendrive. so the grub was modified. when the computer starts it shows debian,ubuntu and win7 no problem.. but if i remove the pendrive, nothing comes up. it shows grub rescue>..
so now i cant start up unless i plug in the pendrive. what to do now to solve this problem?? i want to restore my grub to the previos state.
I know this can be done with install-grub command in recent ubuntu release. How can i install it from puppy linux or distro which does not use grub 2. Will my pendrive boot if i copy /boot/grub from ubuntu 10.04 live cd to /boot/grub of my pendrive?
I've recently been trying to install Kubuntu Live onto a pendrive but I'm having some problems. Situation is as so:- Installed Kubuntu 10.10 desktop to 4Gb pendrive via Universal installer 1.8.1.2, with 2Gb allocated persistence.
- Reboot PC, boot from USB into Kubuntu, no problems. - Configure WiFi connection. - Reboot. - Error: NTLDR is missing
I've tried this several times, always with the same result. As soon as I reboot, boot loader appears to be missing. I've read here:[URL].. that there are problems with syslinux and Ubuntu's version and wondered if this was the problem, but plenty of people appear to be running with this setup.
Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem (and apologies if this has already been asked, I'm struggling to find anything pertinent.) For info, the pendrive I'm using has a small partition that acts as a floppy drive, could this have any influence?
how is it possible to downgrade to the Ubuntu 10.04 from Ubuntu 10.10?
I have two reasons for doing it:
1. My internal microphone stopped working in new kernel (ThinkPad Egde 13')
2. New Ubuntu's look and feel is ugly.
Probably this problem may be solved with installing the theme, but it seems not to affect the font, which is the most terrible thing in new release's design. Is it possible to have the 10.04's look and feel here in 10.10?
When you get to the login screen at the bottom there is a box where you can select "Ubuntu Classic" and that will take you to a Gnome 2.3 desktop.I just updated to 11.04 which is so disappointing.It is like I am coming from multi-thread world back to single-thread world. Any in one workspace, you can only do one thing: either surfing internet or something else, but you cannot do both at the same time.On 10.10, we can do multiple things simultaneously and we can switch between each other easily. Now the good feature of 10.10 is completely discarded.
I have an 8gig mp3 player and I was wondering if it was possible to install Unbuntu on it, as if it were a bootable pen drive, without destroying it's ability to function as a stand alone mp3 player.
While installing Ubuntu from USB (made with usb-creator), I began getting errors such as 'ubi-timezone has failed with exit code 1', with a retry / continue / cancel option, finally getting 'Installer has failed with exit code 1'
Now when I try to run Ubuntu directly from the USB key, it won't start properly, giving errors about zero drive space.
I'm now unable to continue the installation or even use Ubuntu from the USB!
How I can fix this? At least, how can I remove whatever has filled up the USB so I can run from it?
11.3 has broken my Samsung mfp color laser. According to an Ubuntu forum, the problem is that the Samsung driver is incompatible with glibc 2.11. Since just about everything seems to be dependent on glibc, the only way I can envision fixing my problem is going back to 11.2 and waiting until someone comes up with a fix to the Samsung driver problem. Other than doing a clean install of 11.2, is there a simple way to downgrade back to 11.2, or at least the parts of it dependent on glibc?
Since I was able to use the update option to move from 11.2 to 11.3, can I insert the 11.2 DVD and choose update? Or, perhaps, is there a particular set of 11.2 repositories that I can add to my 11.3 repositories, choose the 2.10 version of glibc and have the dependencies work out properly? I tried adding the download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/ repository, but Yast seemed to want to change my whole KDE installation from x86_64 to i586. Is there a group of other repositories that would make the repository route work?
I am a using Windows xp. I had Started my Redhat6 tuition from some days,, My question is " How can I install redhat linux 6 from my pendrive? Please describe me all the steps cause I haven't try to install a O.S. from pendrive?
I have 10.04 LTS installed with Kernel 2.6.32-25-generic-pae Gnome 2.30.2. I am not able to make my Epson ALCX11n working in a network. It worked in 8.10 and in 9.04, so I want to make a downgrade. Is this possible? With all the programs? Will this work with Grub?
How to downgrade from 10.10 back to 10.04? I had 10.04 and was using this for a while and was very happy with this release. though recently I upgraded to 10.10. Since doing so, My screen flickers very annoyingly every 10 seconds or so. I've searched the forms best I could and it appears some other are having this problem and there really is no fix at this time, but to go back to 10.04 - so that is where I am at this moment.
I upgraded from ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 LTS using the update manager and the result is that ubuntu boots into a black screen. Unfortunately I did not test 10.4 before with the Desktop CD, which I tried now, with the same result: black screen. So most likely a hardware screen card issue... which I did really not expect since 8.04 was running very well and the update was coming from the update mananger. Never change a running system. I assume my only chance is to re-install version 8.04 with the iso CD. But before doing so, is there any must-not to keep an eye on?
how/if I can downgrade my dual-boot partition (win-7/11.04) to 10.10 without having to reformat the entire disk?
Can I use the same partition I installed the alpha 11.04 on to install 10.10 and save myself a lot of work?
Is it possible to simply reformat the Ubuntu Linux partition and re-install 10.10 there while preserving my Windows 7 installation?
Can I keep the newer GRUB boot loader for 11.04 (I like it better), or will I be forced to downgrade that as well?
I just tried the alpha, and I can't use it. It's still too green, so I want to go back to 10.10 the easiest way possible, so I'd need a little detail on the process of using the advanced partition features (if this is even possible).
