I have tried several times installing ubuntu netbook remix on my netbook and have followed guides step by step but it dosn't work (screen goes black, flashing hyphen). Only thing i might be doing wrong is using an external 320gb hdd that i had previously formated to fat32 instead of a usb pendrive. Is this the problem, note i dont have a pendrive large enough.

Can I just use an external CD drive and install onto a new partition? If so, will it handle all the GRUB dual-boot stuff on installation or will I have to do something special for that?

I can arrow up and down, but when I press enter on any entry nothing happens. The CD will spin momentarily but then stop. Been trying to make this work for two weeks.

I just can't get my head around it.I own a Asus Eee Pc 1005HA it has roughly 160gb and is currently running WinXP. I'm trying to install the latest Netbook remix 10.04 onto the machine as a dual boot option.I've loaded the iso onto a usb drive and everything works perfectly. The problem is during installation. I can't work out how to set up the partitions for a dual boot option. Below is the current configuration on the system.

I have tried using UNetbootin to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Toshiba NB205 and am having no luck. Both it and Kubuntu NR will boot from live USB and seemingly install successfully, but when I select the Ubuntu option, it hangs and drops me down to BusyBox with initramfs.
When UNR was distributed as a .img file, I could use Canonical's USB image .exe to prepare the USB drive and it always worked like a charm, but now UNetbootin fails me all too often. I don't really have access to another Ubuntu box to run usb-creator with, so has anyone had any success with any other install method? I am dual booting with Windows 7.
i tried to install ubuntu netbook remix edition 10.04 on my laptop HP Compaq 550 through a usb flash stick ... with the usb creator which included into the iso image i got this msg (( attached screen-shot )) .i tried another application which makes a usb bootable disk called "UNetbootin" it boots successfully but after booting every thing got FREEZED ... i tried the same thing with ubuntu 9.10 it's succeed .. but i neeed to install 10.04 .

I have an E2160 dual core pentium @ 1.8Ghz each, and an 8600GT and everything else works fine with a normal installation. View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing eeePC1000 with Xandros installed and investigating installation of Ubuntu, especially seeing that there was a netbook version. Have had some problems creating a bootable USB, but followed a thread on the netbook forum that I think will be useful. Before going ahead I wanted some advice on a few things:
- does the Ubuntu OS install over Xandros or is there work to be done post install to clear Xandros out?
- if i want to keep using Thunderbird, StarOffice etc. as supplied with Xandros can I install these to Ubuntu?
Sorry if above all seems obvious: sites I've been to, or books are great at telling you about how good the OS is and how to install but nothing on what happens to the old OS.

I'm not a huge fan of netbook remix, and I find it really doesn't add a whole lot to my netbook experience. I was quite surprised when setting up evolution and empathy to find a number of the windows didn't fit on my 1024x600 screen.As such I would like to put normal Ubuntu 10.04 onto my netbook. What would be the easiest way to do it? Should I just install it from a LiveCD, or is there a better way?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust bought a refurb PC900 and also now have a SDHC Flash with Ubuntu 10.4 netbook remix on it so that I can boot from it. I am having a problem that the UNR shows the time and date 5 hours behind the real time. The notebook BIOS is correct. When I try to set the time and date it goes back to the original time that was set before withing a few seconds. I set up a new user with administrator full access but that did not solve the issue. I have also tried setting up Ubunto One but my system does not act like the directions online. Can I get files from my non-ubunto pc to my PC900? It seems only one way to me right now.

The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
Why i cant change from 800x480 to 1024x600, that this model of EEE pc doesnt support anything higher than 800x480 at the 10:1 ratio...
Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?
Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...
I am trying to install Ubuntu Netbook on an iiView A2. I realize this is not necessarily supported according to the Ubuntu documentation, however, one of my friends who has the same netbook was able to accomplish this with no issues. The computer boots up from the USB just fine, I get to the menu and choose install Ubuntu. I see a cursor flash on the screen for a second and then the Ubuntu logo. Immediately after seeing the Ubuntu logo the screen goes black (or blank) and I get no HDD activity (or any other activity). I have let it set for quite some time but it does not appear to be doing anything. This same kind of thing happens when I choose Try Ubuntu without installing from the initial menu after boot.how to install from the command line and edit xorg.conf later?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past 2hrs I have been struggling to make KDE launch plasma-dekstop instead of plasma-netbook, but all in vain.I removed, then purged plasma-netbook and plasma-netbook-default-settings packages but after logging out and re-logging in the Netbook UI was back! After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?
