I'm trying to get an nginx/php-fpm/mysql stack setup on Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS 32 bit version.
I have pretty much got everything going fine, except PHP extensions. For whatever reason when I compile php it is seeming to not compile any extensions with it ?
I am using the following configure flags:
Code:
./configure --prefix=/opt/php5 --with-config-file-path=/opt/php5/etc --with-curl --with-pear --with-gd --with-jpeg-dir --with-png-dir --with-zlib --with-mcrypt --with-mhash --with-mysql --with-mysqli --with-pdo-mysql --with-openssl --with-xmlrpc --with-xsl --with-bz2 --with-gettext --with-fpm-user=www-data --with-fpm-group=www-data --enable-fpm --enable-exif --enable-wddx --enable-zip --enable-bcmath --enable-calendar --code....

I recently got an iPhone 3g and have been trying to upload music onto my device with Rhythmbox because my computer exclusively runs Ubuntu (10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx). Rhythmbox would show files that were dragged and dropped as being on the iPhone, and they appeared in the iPhone's folders, but they weren't recognized in the iPod player. I followed a variety of forum threads to try to fix the problem, but ended up creating a whole new set of problems with my package manager.
I get this error message before package manager opens: E: Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pmcenery-ppa-lucid.list E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
And this message after I close the first error message window and the package manager opens: An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pmcenery-ppa-lucid.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.' Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this? If it isn't already apparent, I am very inexperienced working with ubuntu, so the more detailed the response, the better.

Was wondering how to do this. I was trying to do achieve this from looking at different guides, but I haven't had any luck.
I am on a custom PC, with dual screens; one LCD, and one CRT, from which I installed OS X 10.5.6 from a retail DVD.
I installed OS X first, because I needed to format my HDD to use GUID partition table, because you can't install from a retail DVD without using GUID. Once OS X was installed, I partitioned my hard-drive into 4 partitions from the OS X disk utility. These partitions were HFS. I then used the Ubuntu Lucid x64 Live disk to format the 3 nre HFS partitions to use ext4, for two of them, and one swap. I installed Ubuntu as normal.
I re-booted, and GRUB recognized my OS X instillation, so I tried to boot into it. It went into OS X, but with some major problems. My LCD screen was going haywire, but my CRT seemed to be working, but it took on my LCD's screen resolution and place as the main screen.
I thought my OS X instillation was badly damages, so with Ubuntu still installed on the other partitions, I re-installed OS X, which I am on now.
I want to know how to boot back into Ubuntu, while still having the option to boot into OS X.

First of all I must say that I am new to Debian, but not newbie on Linux. I am the Arch Linux user too, and I managed to solve identical problem on Arch. So, as I want to try Debian I am facing the same problem again. Problem is that my GPU is overheating. I am using Ati open source driver. I installed it following the procedure on Debian wiki. On Arch I solved it with proprietary driver fglrx. I tried the same solution here but it doesn't work. So I am stuck with open source drivers.
The difference between Arch and Debian (fglrx vs. Ati open source) is 10 C degrees. Debian Ati open source is much hotter. And ofc I am facing the low battery life too, because of this. My laptop is using much higher energy consumption with open source driver (almost double). How can I check my energy consumption on Debian? I read about some xorg options. I tried it, but no effect. As I am on Debian testing I am using kernel 2.6.32. Does this kernel supports xorg video energy consumption options?

I installed lucid lynx over a year ago on a IBM A20m laptop. I've been happily using ubuntu up to now until yesterday when I installed Tor and Torbutton. When I rebooted, I got a blank screen after the IBM startup routine. Thinking that somehow the system got corrupted by my Tor installation, I decided to reinstall lucid lynx from the CD. Surprise! The install CD also gives a blank screen!
I hit a key to get the menu and and the three first three choices all result in the same blank screen:
* Try Ubuntu without installing
* Install Ubuntu
* Check disk for defects
To help debug this, I tried setting the F6 option nomodeset and I removed "quiet splash" from the boot options.

I'm trying to compile wine from source, with a patch to make it work for Worms Armageddon. I've applied the patch and go to run
Code:
$ ./configure
It then pumps out rows of text and at the end reads:
Code:
configure: WARNING: No OpenGL library found on this system.
OpenGL and Direct3D won't be supported. I went ahead and finished compiling it but it doesn't run worms, so I've come back to this opengl issue.

I use Workrave on Windows to make sure that I walk away from my computer every now and then, but I can't find it in openSUSE's repositories although it is available for Linux.
Then I tried compiling it from source, but I got this error...
pdedecker@linux-s6cn:~/Desktop/workrave-1.9.3> ./autogen.sh **Warning**: I am going to run `configure' with no arguments. If you wish to pass any to it, specify them on the `./autogen.sh' command line.
Running intltoolize...
Running libtoolize...
libtoolize: putting auxiliary files in `.'.
libtoolize: copying file `./ltmain.sh'
[Code].....
Is Workrave incompatible with KDE4? Is openSUSE using a different windowing system?
I'm willing to try similar software packages if they're easier to install.

So I have compiled from source a libgsf debian package. However when I go to install it dpkg complains that "libgsf depends on libgsf-1" however as you can see if you look on the debian page libgsf-1 is the same source as the ligsf package...
How can I resolve this redundant/recursive issue? For now I have just force installed my package (and it appears to be working) but if I am going to distribute it to other people I need to get this fixed.

I am running a Fedora 13 x64 . The latest kernel I get is 2.6.34.8 in testing from yumex. However I want to install 2.6.37 How do I do it, without compiling from the source (which I think is beyond my scope at this point). I am more concerned with this because I am planning to get LMDE for my notebook but I came to know that it runs 2.6.32 kernel, so would I be able to update it? There's also the Liquorix kernel that I have read about, with many people saying that its better for daily usage scenarios--is that true, and is there some major difference in code?

fix the problems mentioned above, and run ./configure again. For example, make sure you have the KDE 4 devel packages installed.I've done this yesterday on another computer and it worked fine once I had both libgif4 and libgif-dev installed. The problem is that I've got both of those packages installed on this computer and I still get the error.

After finally figuring out how exactly how to compile something from source, I did it with Wine. However, there's a problem, when I'm trying to play a game on Steam (Half-Life) on a TNT2 graphics card (With NVIDIA drivers 71.86 installed as well as all of the packages needed to compile Wine from source), everything either lags or has an error.
One of these errors is that OpenGL32 isn't being initialized after attempting to start the game in that mode. Another error (or I should say problem) is that in Direct3D mode, it just.. crashes lol. Also, in Software mode, it LAGS horribly and I don't think it has to do with the hardware limitations I have on this machine. I did however install the glx and gl drivers AFTER I compiled Wine, do I have to do yet another install?

I'm trying to install the calculator Qalculate from source so I download the tar.gz package for KDE from their official website to my ~/Downloads folder. I unzipped it with
Code: Select all tar xzf qalculate-kde-0.9.7.tar.gz
I moved the exploded folder to my /home/guest/ folder (my user-name is guest), I entered the qalculate-kde-0.9.7 folder and searched for a INSTALL or README file. Here's what the INSTALL file says to do. The INSTALL file says to run the following commands
Code: Select all./configure
Code: Select allmake
Code: Select allmake install
Code: Select allmake clean
