Ubuntu :: Booting After Installation (Dual Booting With Vista) - Error: No Such Devide Found

Jun 24, 2010

i decided to install ubuntu in my PC,i downloaded the .ISO image and i installed it in my USB. After trying it and all that i observed that i really liked it and i decided to formally install it to my computer in the hard drive. When i reached the partition thing,i selected to dual boot with Vista and select between each them in every startup, when i clicked FORWARD it gave me an error which i did not read(because, again im a noob) so i clicked cancel.

Today i wanted to go through the process again and now really install it,so again i went to the time zone part and i clicked forward but then, instead of taking me straight to the partition phase,it appeard a window saying "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions: /dev/sda ...." I clicked yes,to unmount this partitions so it took me to the partition thing, once there i selected the option to install Ubuntu with Vista and select between them i neach startup, then i clicked forward and went to the username/computer name process, once i finished i continued to the next part, the installation, but i selected to import all of my WIndows VIsta default user data, after that i clicked forward and went to the installation process,i went down stairs to eat soemthing while it finishes,i came back and it was finished,it asked me to reboot so i clicked in Restart Now.

When it tried to boot, appeared an error saying: Error: no such devide found: #################### Grub load(or something like that) grub rescue: and it was a command line, since there i havent been able to boot into vista or Ubuntu,im really scared because is the first thing related to OS installing ive done,so i booted my USB and ran the trial and right now im trying to find out what to do from that trial version.
I just went to the INSTALL UBUNTU 10.04 LTS application under the System>Administration Menu and found out that in the partition phase the Install and allow to select between both systems in eahc startup option,i dont know what to do,i foudn out that my HD has still all its data(MUsic/Videos/Folders/Programs/ect.)its just that i cannot boot from it. Also in GParted it appears as /dev/sda1/ and a warning icon besides it,also when i go into information, thers this warning there [URL]

Ubuntu Installation :: I / O Error When Booting Laptop From USB

Nov 26, 2010

I'm having trouble installing Ubuntu 10.10 from my USB SanDisk Cruzer to my ThinkPad x60s. I configured the USB exactly as directed by the Ubuntu website's instructions, and booted the laptop from the USB. Things went well until the installer informed me that the installation was complete and I needed to restart the computer. I clicked on the button to do so, but when the computer restarted it displayed a list of error strings like thus:

end_request: I/O error, dev sbd, sector xxxxxxxx
end_request: I/O error, dev sbd, sector xxxxxxx2
end_request: I/O error, dev sbd, sector xxxxxxx3

Restarting the computer again with the USB brought up the regular installation menu. Restarting without it brought up a blank black screen with a blinking cursor. I attempted to execute the entire process again (format and reinstall) with the exact same results. How can I finish the installation and access the operating system?

System:
Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad x60s
1 GB RAM
Core Duo 1.83 Ghz
Ubuntu Version: 10.10
USB Drive: SanDisk Cruzer

Ubuntu Installation :: Failed - Unrecoverable Error When Booting From The 10.04 Live CD - 10.04

Jun 28, 2010

I'm getting the following error when booting from the 10.04 live CD: Installation Failed. The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again.

I checked the CD for defects, and even tried re-downloading/burning to a new disc, but got the same problem. I tried booting in to the LIVE session then installing from the desktop but I still got the same error. I have had 9.10 running on here fine, and after running a Kubuntu 9.10 disc I had to hand to check it would work, that installed fine (hence the auto-partitions you will see in my info dump below). Here is some information about my system, let me know if I've missed anything. I've also included a copy of the syslog below.

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor ADX240OCGQBOX
Patriot 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model PSD32G13332
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C HDS721010CLA332 (0F10383) 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Plus an old case and PSU and an old 18gb IDE drive, and an old CD-RW drive

I put the CD in and boot the machine. The initial Ubuntu screen comes up ("Ubuntu" with the line of dots below it) for a few seconds, and then it disappears and I see this text:

(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: Input/output error
Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs

At that point it hangs and will proceed no further. I've tried this with the latest Mythbuntu Live CD and the latest Ubuntu Desktop Edition Live CD. Both were x64 versions.

Fedora Installation :: UUID Error While Booting

Apr 3, 2009

I have 2 CPUs Which are Intel and AMD based. I used F9 before and didnt have any issues while I removed the hdd that I'd installed F9 on INTEL based and then put my hdd on my AMD based cpu. Well it booted and ran perfectly no issues came up.And then I've done the upgrade to F10 (clean install on INTEL). I do the same case above. But I got error msgs it said that the UUID cannot be found (I was using label on F9 fstab and worked fine).

I put back my hdd to intel based cpu and then try to edit my fstab and menu.lst (change UUID to LABEL). WOW I thought by changing UUID from fstab and menu.lst would resolve my problem but it doesnt solve anything. My devices (sda1/2/3, /boot, and /home) cannot be reconized.Well do you guys know how to change UUID to LABEL? and what exactly my problem?

Ubuntu Installation :: Error Booting 9.10 - Failed To Restore Crtc Config

I'm trying to boot Ubuntu from a LiveCD in a computer I recently bought that currently has Windows XP on it. The Ubuntu menu comes up when I boot but it always snags on an error "failed to restore CRTC configuration -22" or something like that, and just goes on ad infinitum.

I tried running Linux Mint too and had the same problem, which makes me think it's an issue with the computer itself - which is an Averatec, if that helps.

Debian Installation :: Grub Error 18 With Lenny While Booting

May 7, 2010

I recently did a single boot install of Lenny-xfce on a Compaq Armada laptop. There were no errors and grub indeed found that Lenny was the only OS on the hard drive and installed itself on the MBR. My problem is that I'm getting an error 18 when booting the freshly installed system from hard disk. I booted into rescue mode and started a shell to take a look around. There are files on the drive and /etc/grub exists. device.map shows dev(0,0) as being mapped to /dev/hda. A search on the forum for "grub error 18" came up with nothing.

3. Install, reboot, and resync the MBR using rEFIt partitioning tool

Fedora Installation :: Error: Idle With IF=0" But Everything Ended Up Booting Normal

Jun 29, 2010

I just read through the Lifehacker article on how to create a Linux boot from USB and thought it would be a good idea for when I want to use a light system on my netbook. Anyways, I encountered some problems when trying to boot the first time on my netbook. I got an error before it was loading up "Error: idle with IF=0" but everything ended up booting normal; however, I couldn't find my wireless connection.

Well, then I decided to boot up my other laptop with it and then was going to install the OS to my external hard drive; however, it never did find any storage devices (after I let it sit and load for about 10 minutes). My last question/issue is wondering if I can install it to my main hard drive and boot either WIndows XP/7 or Fedora instead of just one or the other. FYI, I was running the boot from a 4gb USB drive.

Ubuntu Installation :: "Error Booting Operating System" - Sudo Grub; Root (hd0.0)...) Doesn't Work

Mar 1, 2011

I installed 10.04 (clean install) on a 250G drive (partitioned to 107G for the system files). It was working fine, until I wanted to install Window$ for the use of Adobe stuff. I popped the Windows XP disc in, it loaded its files, then I tried to choose a partition for installation. There was an error saying that I can't do that, and needed to delete a partition blah blah. I thought it was too much trouble, so I quit and just wanted to use my 10.04. Booted, and it says "Error booting operating system" I WAS SHOCKED.

I tried to install grub (but don't need that right? I DO NOT want to dual boot now), but the usual method ( the sudo grub; root (hd0.0)...) doesn't work ,because something like "stage1" is missing. I tried many methods by still the same error. The reason I do not want a clean install is that I did many fixes on my 10.04 so that it would work with my EeePC 1001pxd, and I do not want to go through that again. I will be checking my email frequently on other computers if I have a chance.
